Latest Npower news update on payment of Stipends. This page also contains all the NASIMS News today

In the latest update from Npower, Nasims, the Npower management, has addressed the issue of delayed stipend payments for Npower Batch C beneficiaries. They have clarified that the new payment has not yet been approved.

It appears that the ongoing approved payment is specifically for the backlog of unpaid stipends from 2022 for Npower Batch C beneficiaries.

Nasims has assured that once the new payment is approved, it will commence without delay. It is important to note that beneficiaries are owed five months’ worth of stipend payment in the year 2023.

Currently, Npower is in the process of enrolling more preselected applicants. These applicants are being invited for account validation to facilitate their inclusion as beneficiaries.

The payment for Npower beneficiaries who have successfully validated their accounts through the validation link is gradually being processed. Many beneficiaries have confirmed receiving their backlog payments today.

Additionally, there have been rumors circulating in the media regarding the Federal Government’s decision to suspend payments to vendors, contractors, consultants, and service providers until further notice. However, it is important to note that salaries and pensions are not affected by this decision.

The National Social Investment Management System (NASIMS) has taken measures to engage and include additional Npower Batch C applicants in the Npower Batch C2 Programme. As part of this procedure, selected applicants have been sent text messages requesting confirmation of their status and validation of their Npower records via the Npower Account Validation Form.

Overview of NASIMS and Npower Batch C Program

NASIMS is a system established to facilitate the management and administration of social investment programs in Nigeria. One of the key programs under NASIMS is the Npower Batch C initiative, which aims to empower Nigerian youth by providing them with employment opportunities and skills development.

Breaking: Appeal Court Orders Arrest Of Popular Senator Bassey Akpan In N240m Fraud Case

Senator Akpan Arrested and Conviction Upheld in N240m Fraud Case

Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, a former governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), has been arrested following the upholding of his conviction on money laundering charges by the Calabar Division of the Court of Appeal. The arrest order was issued by the Federal High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced this development through a statement released by its Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, on Friday. According to the statement, Senator Akpan was found guilty by Justice Agatha Okeke on December 1, 2022, on seven counts of money laundering filed against him by the EFCC. He was subsequently sentenced to 42 years imprisonment without the option of a fine.

The conviction stemmed from an allegation that Senator Akpan received vehicles worth N240 million as a bribe from companies associated with Olajide Omokore. It was revealed that Omokore, a contractor who executed a N3 billion contract for the Akwa Ibom State Government during Akpan’s tenure as Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee, was linked to the fraudulent transaction.

The EFCC emphasized that Senator Akpan’s actions violated Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended), and were punishable under Section 15 (3) of the same Act.

N240m Fraud: Court of Appeal Upholds Conviction of Senator Bassey Apkan, Orders His Arrest

The Calabar Division of the Court of Appeal, on Friday, June 23, 2023 upheld the conviction of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan on money laundering charges by a Federal High Court, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and ordered his arrest.

Justice Agatha Okeke had on December 1, 2022, found Senator Akpan, then governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, guilty of seven-counts of money laundering preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and sentenced him to 42 years imprisonment, without an option of fine.

Akpan was prosecuted on allegation of receiving vehicles valued at N240 million as bribe from companies linked to one Olajide Omokore, a contractor who executed a N3Billion contract for the Government of Akwa Ibom State whilst Senator Bassey was Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee. The offence contravenes Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and is punishable under Section 15 (3) of the same Act.

However, dissatisfied with the judgment, Senator Akpan on December 29, 2022, approached a Vacation Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, presided over by Justice S. I. Mark of the Federal High Court and secured a post-conviction bail on health grounds. But upon release from prison, Senator Akpan continued with his campaign to be governor of Akwa Ibom State and subsequently approached the Appellate Court in Calabar, to set aside the judgment of Justice Okeke.

While arguing against the appeal, counsel to the EFCC, Ekele Iheanacho urged the Court to uphold the judgment of the lower court, dismiss the appeal and revoke the said bail granted to Senator Bassey on the grounds that “the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and the charge was validly filed”.

Delivering judgment today, the three-man panel of the Appellate Court, led by Justice Raphael Chikwe Agbo, upheld the conviction of Senator Akpan but varied the sentence by granting the appellant an option of fine.

The Court also affirmed that the appellant should restitute the sum of N240 million to the Federal Government through the EFCC and that the said restitution shall not be a prerequisite for his release from the correctional facility.

The Court finally revoked the bail and ordered the arrest of Senator Akpan.

Addressing the issue, President Tinubu asked, “If you protest, I will join you and protest. But what exactly are you protesting about? Are you benefiting from a portion of the subsidy?” He further explained that the funds saved from the removal of subsidies were essential for the implementation of increased palliative measures and improvements in transportation.

According to a report by ICIR in 2022, President Tinubu has been embroiled in numerous controversies since assuming the role of governor of Lagos in 1999.

In the years 2022 and 2023, there has been a series of stories surrounding Tinubu, with controversies ranging from concerns about his wealth, health issues, allegations of certificate forgery and corruption, involvement in illicit activities such as serving as a bagman to drug traffickers, and being investigated for possible involvement in money laundering rings.

Atiku vs Tinubu: PDP tenders 118 exhibits as tribunal takes action

Earlier, as reported by Legit.ng, Atiku presented a total of 118 exhibits before the presidential election petition court. These exhibits were tendered by Atiku as evidence to support his case against President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku’s witness drops allegations against APC, Tinubu’s agents

According to a report by Legit Nigeria, Abiye Sekibo, a witness for Atiku, made allegations that agents of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and President Tinubu obstructed the uploading of election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) server in Rivers state.

During the proceedings at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja on Monday, June 5, Sekibo claimed that Tinubu and APC “agents” prevented INEC officials from utilizing the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) machines to upload the collated results from polling units during the presidential election held on February 25 across the state.

N77 trillion debt, census, other liabilities Buhari left for Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu is dealing with the assets and liabilities inherited from his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, less than 30 days into the job.

However, unlike in 2015, the new president is unable to criticise his predecessor on his liabilities because they are both members of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

President Tinubu admitted during the National Economic Council’s inauguration, “The situation that we have seen is one- I inherited, and it is fundamental, I inherited assets and liabilities of my predecessor.”

Pro-market people and forces have praised his reforms, particularly the elimination of fuel subsidies and deliberate attempts to end multiple exchange rates.

President Tinubu inherited the following liabilities from his predecessor, Buhari.

    Debt of N77 trillion

The former President left the current administration with a N77 trillion debt burden.

The debt management office (DMO) provided the figure. This is possibly the most significant liability that the previous administration left for the current administration.

“The danger with the debt burden is that even if the subsidies are removed, a large portion of federal government revenue will be used for debt servicing,” Lekan Olaleye, an economist, told Ejes Gist News.

“The ongoing reforms mean the government cannot afford to introduce any form of new taxation,” he added. The government must raise the minimum wage while also dealing with the loans.”

    Subsidy for petrol

The outgoing administration had budgeted for petroleum subsidies until June 30, but Mr Tinubu did not wait until then, declaring in his inaugural speech that “fuel subsidies are gone.”

While the administration has been able to eliminate fuel subsidies, the issue of palliative and other interventions has yet to be addressed.

The previous administration only intended to borrow $800 million as a last resort.

    Emefiele/Naira restyle

Nigerians are still uncertain about the old Naira notes in their pockets because the Supreme Court order is still in effect until December 31, 2023.

It should be remembered that Nigerians experienced biting Naira note scarcity in the first quarter of the year as a result of the now-suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele’s Naira redesign policy.

Mr Tinubu promised in his inaugural speech to clean up the monetary space, and Mr Emefiele appears to be the first casualty, facing prosecution by the state secret police, the DSS.

However, Nigerians are still unsure whether the Naira notes in their possession will be worth anything after December.

    Census

The new administration also inherited the 2023 national census. The previous administration spent N200 billion on preparations for the population census, which has now been postponed.

Because of the political implications of census figures, population censuses in Nigeria have always been contentious.

It is unclear whether the current administration will continue down this road.

    Border closures

The Tinubu administration must also decide whether to close land borders.

During the campaign, only Atiku Abubakar made his position on the border closure clear.

According to the Ejes Gist News, the former Vice President vowed to open the border, which was criticised by Lai Mohammed, the immediate past Minister of Information and Culture.

A memo requesting the reopening of the Seme land border for vehicle importation is said to be awaiting final approval.

Earlier today, the US Coast Guard (USCG) stated that the oxygen supply was expected to run out by 1 p.m. UK time.

The estimate was based on the number of hours of oxygen available to the craft’s five occupants and the time it submerged (1 p.m. UK time on Sunday).

Experts said the projected supply of breathable air could be extended if passengers took measures to conserve oxygen.

The USCG said rescue vessels found on the sea floor were “consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber” from the Titan.

The submersible’s tail cone was discovered on the sea floor about 1,600 feet away from the Titanic’s bow and other debris nearby, according to John Mauger, commander of the First Coast Guard District.

The crew pod was not discovered.

    ALL THE PASSENGERS FELT DEAD.

In a statement, OceanGate confirmed fears that the passengers of the Titanic-bound submersible had “sadly perished.”

“We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet have sadly perished,” according to the statement.

“These men were true explorers with a strong sense of adventure and a strong desire to explore and protect the world’s oceans.” During this tragic time, our hearts go out to these five souls and every member of their families. We mourn the loss of their lives and the joy they brought to everyone they knew.”

The company described the loss as a “very sad time” for the entire explorer community and requested that the privacy of the affected families “be respected during this most painful time.”

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment among all stakeholders to continue working together to address primary healthcare challenges, improve routine immunization, and ensure access to essential vaccines for all Nigerian children. Tinubu fails to join other African leaders on the Paris summit economic panel on stage

President Bola Tinubu was unable to participate in a live economic session during the ongoing summit of world leaders in Paris. Instead, he asked the Nigerian ambassador to represent him, although the reasons for his absence on stage were not immediately clear. Prior to the summit, his office had announced his attendance and participation in a debate concerning Africa’s economic prospects.

The global financing pact summit, taking place at Palais Brongniart in Paris over two days, aims to find effective solutions to reduce poverty and address the adverse impacts of climate change on the global financial system.

Scheduled to join other participants on stage at 6:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, Tinubu’s aides had confirmed his preparedness for the event, which marked his first since assuming the presidency on May 29. The Nigerian ambassador, Adamu Ahmed, represented him alongside other notable figures, including David Craig, co-chair of the task force on nature-related financial disclosures (TNFD); Mark Carney of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ); Mary Schapiro of global public policy at Bloomberg; Sabine Mauderer of the Network for Greening the Financial System; and United Nations special envoy Catherine Mckenna.

In a speech prepared hastily, Ambassador Ahmed expressed the belief that addressing social issues should be elevated alongside environmental concerns. He commended President Macron for emphasizing the issue of poverty at the summit, emphasizing that the focus should encompass climate, people, and diversity.

Ambassador Ahmed highlighted the economic difficulties faced by African countries in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing that public resources alone would no longer suffice to tackle the challenges. He emphasized the need to attract private capital and compete with other countries worldwide. Ahmed also welcomed President Macron’s initiative to develop a Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU) as a repository that would greatly benefit African nations.

He further conveyed the message that African countries are ready to actively engage with the international community and are transitioning from mere commitments to concrete plans. Ahmed cited Nigeria’s enactment of the Climate Change Act in 2021, establishing the Climate Change Council with President Tinubu at the helm, along with the establishment of a climate change fund and a National Action Plan. Nigeria has set a net-zero target of 2060, recognizing the substantial challenges it faces, and has sought regional partnerships with other African countries.

This trip marked President Tinubu’s first international visit since assuming the Nigerian presidency on May 29. The reasons for his non-participation in this crucial aspect of the summit, despite concerns about the impact of removing subsidies on petroleum products, which were previously used to alleviate economic hardships, remain unclear. Although Tinubu has reportedly sought medical treatment in Paris in the past, his aides denied any plans for a medical visit during this trip.

Several African leaders, including South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, participated on stage during the summit on Thursday evening.

Tinubu’s absence from today’s panel, though unusual for such an event, mirrors his strategy during Nigeria’s presidential campaign. As the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, he did not attend several televised debates held in Lagos and Abuja before the elections on February 25, 2023.

During a visit to London in December 2022, where he was invited to speak at the renowned think-tank Chatham House, Tinubu struggled to respond adequately to complex questions. He frequently passed the microphone to his surrogates, a controversial conduct that was deemed unusual and unauthorized by Chatham House due to a lack of prior discussion.

Tinubu cited media bias as the reason for rejecting debates with other candidates in Nigeria, claiming unfair treatment towards his campaign. However, he did not explain why he relied on allies to answer critical questions on his behalf during his Chatham House appearance. The pattern of Tinubu’s non-participation in today’s panel at the summit aligns with his previous approach, reflecting his campaign strategy and public engagements.

I Was Moved By Evil Spirit – Ex-Vice Chairman Who Killed His Lover Confesses

Austin Ejovwo, the arrested ex-Vice Chairman of Okolor Inland community, Udu Local Government Area, Delta state, who murdered his own lover, Felicia Akpomeria, has confessed to the crime.

The man claimed that he was moved to commit the evil act by an evil spirit.

This comes as Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, stated over the phone that the suspect will be charged in court soon.

According to family members, Ejovwo fled to the Ologbo bush after committing the crime to meet a relative.

Felicia was discovered dead in her lover’s bedroom flat on Friday, in a pool of blood from matchet wounds.

Pay attention to God asked me to tell you to sell your new luxury car, Prophet tells Davido

According to the victim’s relative, Godwin Laya. “He admitted killing my sister, Felicia, saying it was something that came into his mind to kill her. He accused his mother of witchcraft.

“I believe the killer is trying to draw attention away from his true motivations for killing our sister.” He did admit to owing our sister at the Ovwian Police Division, where he was first detained.

“He wasn’t pushed by any spirit for us.” We’ve heard he committed a previous murder. He is occultic in nature. He either killed our sister for ritual purposes or to avoid paying back the money he owed her.

“He ran to his sister’s place where they produce palm oil, and the sister wanted to bring him back to the village before she was called from the village that her brother killed a woman.”

“After being informed, his sister drove him to Ovwain police station.” We would have retaliated against our sister’s death if they had called us before taking him to the police station, and if he had been brought to us.

“The government must ensure that the suspect receives justice.”

“The man is a suspected ritualist because our sister was discovered near a shrine inside the house, though the police did not allow me to see my sister’s corpse at the mortuary.”
