Withdraw your petition against Tinubu, Lamidi Apapa LP faction tells Obi
On Friday, the Lamidi Apapa faction of Labour Party instructed the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to withdraw his case from the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal due to his “lack of seriousness.”
According to the faction, the advice became necessary as a result of the incident that occurred on Thursday at the Tribunal, where the court halted hearings in the petition Obi and the LP filed against the election of Bola Tinubu.
Regarding the removal of fuel subsidies, the LP faction criticised the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria for rejecting the new petrol pump price.
They insisted that the LP’s position on the removal of fuel subsidies during the campaign has not changed, stating, “We cannot reverse that position because it was not our candidate who won the presidential election.”
Abayomi Arabambi, the factional National Publicity Secretary of the LP, raised these issues at a press conference in Abuja.
Since PEPT began meeting, Obi has not been able to provide any concrete evidence to support these claims, he told the media.
Arabambi asserted that Obi went to court to contest Tinubu’s victory because he and his co-travellers had different motives than the Nigerian populace, who had freely offered their support to LP.
He said, “We have followed with keen interest the shameful developments and approach of the so-called legal team assembled by Peter Obi to challenge the outcome of the February 25 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, and we have, like many Nigerians, come to the conclusion that Obi is not only taking Nigerians for a ride, but would continue to waste the hard-earned resources donated by Nigerians for this purpose to enrich himself.”
“Everyone here who has been following this case will recall that the day we had a courtroom altercation with (Julius) Abure’s group, INEC announced that Peter Obi would not be able to pay for CTC form EC08 and other documents. This compelled them to present only 30% of the materials required for the hearing before the Election Petition Tribunal.
“Three days ago, they reported that two of their solicitors were ill, and yesterday (Thursday), they were unable to file a single process with Obi’s vast array of SANs. This is precisely what we have been saying: that they are attempting to deceive the public, mislead the Obidients, and give them false hope that they have a case before the tribunal.
“It is clear from the attitude they displayed in their letter to INEC that Obi cannot pay N1.5 million. Whom do they deceive? Counsel was ill?
“For this reason, we have always maintained that Obi is not serious. He arrived at the party empty-handed. He neither funded the election nor the party, nor did he do anything for the party. He came to disrupt the entire process and deceive Nigerians into believing he has something to offer.
“Therefore, the Labour Party is urging him to abandon his egotistical ambitions and stop sabotaging the party if he has nothing substantial to present to the tribunal.”

He urged the court to dismiss the case in the state’s best interest.
“My prayer is for the nullification of the election result. In the interest of peace and tranquilly, we’ve reevaluated the situation and decided to drop the case.”
In his argument, counsel for the governor, who is the second respondent, Kunle Kalejaye (SAN) urged the tribunal to dismiss the case.
“The petitioner requested that the case be dismissed. We wish for the base to be eliminated. “It is a petition that is dead on arrival,” said the Attorney.
The case was dismissed by the tribunal led by Emudainohwu.
The tribunal subsequently awarded N100,000 to the first respondent (the Independent National Electoral Commission), N250,000 to the second respondent (Governor Makinde), and N250,000 to the third respondent (the Peoples Democratic Party).

NLC Emergency Meeting Deadluck, Threathen To Embark On Indefinite Strike
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for a nationwide strike beginning the following Wednesday.
The union announced the strike on Friday, following a meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja to discuss the removal of fuel subsidies and subsequent increase in the price of petrol at the pump.
The nationwide fuel shortages are a result of President Bola Tinubu’s inaugural address, in which he declared that “fuel subsidies are gone.”
After the emergency meeting with the National Executive Council (NEC) on Friday in Abuja, the president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, stated that the government, specifically the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), had until Wednesday of next week to revert to the old price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as fuel.
Ajaero added that if the Federal Government did not comply with the ultimatum, nationwide protests would continue indefinitely.
The removal of the subsidy has had a ripple effect on the cost of transportation across the nation, as transport workers must now pay a higher price for gasoline after waiting in long lines at filling stations.

Patrick Areghan, Head of WAEC‘s National Office, stated while he was speaking at the launch on Thursday in Lagos State, Nigeria that the certificate is an electronic version of the physical paper certificate.
He stated that the new development is consistent with the council’s ongoing record of meeting global standards by utilising innovative technologies to enhance the experience of candidates.
Why WAEC digital certificate?
Institutions and organisations can confirm with ease the reliability and authenticity of individuals’ certificates on the digital certificate platform. This eliminates fraud and will definitely send fakers out of the market. It has many security doors that make it impossible to hack,” he said.
Areghan affirmed that from December 2022, certificates for West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2023 will be available on its digital platform.
The process of receiving, locating, sharing, verifying, or confirming academic certificates, he claimed, was rather onerous and ineffective. Digital certificates are the only solution because the process is expensive and might be frustrating.
According to the HNO, the digital certificate platform will allow more than 30 million certificate holders to access and share the original copies of their certificates from anywhere in the world. This platform is currently accessible to those who took the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as early as 1999.
Regardless of the recipient’s location, Areghan claimed that people can now instantly share their digital certificates from a WAEC source with instant verification and credibility.
He continued by saying that it gets rid of backlogs of requests and institutional administration delays. It offers immediate credibility and verification.
According to the HNO, the digital platform now offers universities, institutions, and organisations a smooth, secure, and quick confirmation process.
The platform also enables bulk certificate confirmation at once. This saves time and money on important administrative tasks, he continued.
According to him, the platform can be accessed on mobile and web platforms through www.waec.org.

Areghan said it costs N7,500 to access the digital certificate; N5,000 for confirmation and N3,500 to share.
Meanwhile, the Katsina State chapter of the National Rescue Movement, NRM, has urged the government led by Governor Aminu Bello Masari to address the current obstacles students face in accessing their West African Examination Council, and National Examination Council, NECO, results.
Secretary of the Katsina NRM chapter, Abubakar Birchi, remarked that the current APC administration’s attitude towards non-payment of West African Examination Council and NECO registration fees on time, since its inception, is concerning.
Additionally, he lamented that the current administration is dragging the state down by mismanaging educational activities.
“It is regrettable and of great concern that two months after the release of the 2023 WAEC result and two weeks after the release of the 2023 NECO result, Katsina State public school candidates are still unable to access their WAEC and NECO results, despite the fact that some students/parents have already paid their fees,” Birchi said.

Fayemi breaks silence on EFCC probe over alleged N4bn fraud
Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti State and former chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, has denied that he is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for an alleged N4 billion fraud.
Fayemi stated in a statement released on Friday by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office in Abuja, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, that “no such allegation was raised during his conversation” with EFCC officials.
The statement noted, however, that all Fayemi did during his conversation with EFCC officials in Ilorin, Kwara State, was respond to a petition from a group attempting to tarnish his reputation.
The statement read, “We would like to address concerns regarding the invitation and subsequent visit of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti State and chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, to the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“Dr. Fayemi received an invitation from the Ilorin office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding a money laundering petition filed against him last month. It was the height of the preparations for the change of government, with numerous activities and programmes planned for the occasion.
“As a prominent member of the APC, Dr. Fayemi was already committed to playing significant roles at these events, and his absence would have had a significant impact on them. Dr. Fayemi, recognising the significance of his obligations at the time, notified the EFCC of his willingness to cooperate but requested a more convenient date for his appearance.”
According to the statement, Fayemi, accompanied by his attorney, visited the EFCC office in Ilorin on Thursday and engaged in fruitful discussions with the investigators before being permitted to depart a few hours later.
It continued, “We are confident that Dr. Fayemi’s visit has answered the agency’s questions about the petition. Dr. Fayemi is, however, willing to fully cooperate should additional clarification be required.
“We would also like to note that, contrary to rumours circulating about a supposed N4 billion fraud case against Dr. Fayemi, no such allegation was brought up during his conversation with the EFCC.
“All he did was respond to a frivolous petition from an anonymous group, the so-called Ekiti Patriotic Coalition, which we believe is a front for anti-Fayemi politicians attempting to tarnish the former governor’s good name and reputation.”
Fayemi served the people of Ekiti State with the utmost dedication and was renowned for his principled leadership, according to the statement.
“As governor, he consistently exhibited a profound dedication to the welfare of the citizens, driving notable advancements in infrastructure development and attracting valuable investment opportunities for the state.
The statement stated, “We affirm that Dr. Fayemi will continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity for which he is known, and we have faith that the truth will prevail in due time.”

However, he stated that no protests are currently planned.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Benson Upah, the head of the Congress’s Information Unit, Ajaero refuted reports that organised labour had planned a protest for Friday.
Ajaero stated, “The Nigeria Labour Congress is aware of rumours circulating on social media that the union will begin protest action on Friday, June 2 in response to the increase in PMS pump prices. While we are deeply troubled by this thoughtless price increase, which is designed to inflict unimaginable suffering on ordinary Nigerians, we have no plans to take action on Friday.”
He elaborated, “Our immediate plans include holding organisational meetings on June 2, 2023, to discuss the pricing issue. In light of this, we urge the general public to disregard these rumours, as they are not from the Congress.”
Following the meeting on Friday regarding the removal of the subsidy, the organised labour promised to keep Nigerians apprised of its subsequent course of action.
It is important to recall that President Bola Tinubu declared the end of the era of fuel subsidies during his inauguration on Monday.

Governor Mbah Cancels Mondays Sit At Home In Enugu
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has declared an end to the state’s Monday sit-at-home beginning June 5.
According to Mbah, such orders inhibit the state’s innovation, entrepreneurship, and productivity.
He made the announcement while listing the decisions reached at the conclusion of his first security council meeting with the heads of all security agencies on Thursday at Government House.
The governor reminded the populace of the direct relationship between his lofty promises and the state’s thriving economy.
“In order to transition from a public service economy to one driven by the private sector, we must liberate our markets from restrictions on commerce.
“If we desire and anticipate an influx of private sector practitioners and investors in Enugu State, we must recognize that this will not occur if we are perceived as unproductive.
“Therefore, those who go on strike on Mondays, impeding the Igbo spirit of creativity, cannot be our true representatives. In fact, they destroy our spirit, said the governor.
According to him, the Igbo land is a commercially fertile region.
However, businesses, entrepreneurship, and commerce require a robust labour force and large markets in order to flourish and generate profits.
“Therefore, beginning on Monday, June 5, there will be no observance of any sit-at-home in any part of Enugu State.
The government will enforce this with all available resources.
“My charge to all of you market men and women, the corporate world, industries, schools, civil servants, and all strata of workers in Enugu State is for us to take back our sense of industry, pride of place, and re-enact our glorious past,” he said.
He stated that by accepting the invitation, “you would have put us on the path to carrying out our mission.”
Nonetheless, he expressed the government’s willingness to engage in dialogue with those who had legitimate grievances in order to bring lasting peace and security to Enugu State.
The governor reminded the citizens of the state that on the day of his inauguration, he signed three Executive Orders to improve the state’s administration.
According to him, this includes Executive Order 002, which mandates the removal of “Unauthorised Street Barriers Across the State Within 100 Days.”
“Time is of the essence. The clock has begun ticking on the directive you have given me.
“There comes a time in the life of a people when they must decide whether they truly want to advance or remain mired in their underdevelopment,” he said.
The governor stated that the Igbos’ commercial and entrepreneurial prowess were ingrained in their DNA, making their creativity and sense of enterprise remarkable.
“If this is how we are known, then the fact that the spirit of entrepreneurship, commerce, and creativity is extinguished every Monday in our country contradicts our reputation.
“Our restless industrial spirit abhors laziness and sloth.
“The notion of staying at home on Monday, the first working and business day of the week, is abhorrent and antithetical to the spirit of greatness and enterprise we claim to have inherited from our ancestors.
“This cannot be us, and it causes us enormous harm,” he said.
He also urged President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu to expedite Nigeria’s urgently required healing process.
Mbah stated that Kanu’s release was crucial to the nation’s recovery.
“I call on our newly sworn-in president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to consciously work towards Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
“It will also indicate his administration’s willingness to extend brotherly hands of fellowship to the Ndigbo,” he pleaded.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has stated that the local production of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, by Dangote Refinery, Port Harcourt Refining Company, and others in Nigeria will not affect the pump price of the commodity.
On Thursday during an interview on Arise television in Abuja, Mele Kyari, group chief executive officer of the NNPCL, stated that the notion that fuel prices would decrease once the country begins domestic production was false.
Kyari confirmed that the Dangote Refinery, which was inaugurated by former President Muhammadu Buhari on May 22, 2023, would begin producing goods by the end of July or the beginning of August.
In addition, he stated that the Port Harcourt Refinery would be delivered by the end of the year and that the facility was anticipated to increase local petrol production.
Kyari, however, stated that despite the expected volume of petrol from these facilities, the commodity’s price would not decrease, regardless of the fact that the product was produced locally.
“There is a belief that prices will decrease if the product is processed locally. Let me make it clear that nothing will change as a result. If you produce locally, the refineries will also factor in production costs and other variables, and the product will be sold at the current price.
Kyari stated, “There will also be no subsidy when local production begins, as there is no cash-to-back subsidy and the country lacks the resources to continue subsidy.”
Fuel queues
During a second interview with Channels TV, the NNPCL chief stated that the nationwide fuel lines would be cleared by Saturday.
“I don’t anticipate it lasting more than another day or two. Actually, it can be on Saturday. We have provisions. Supply is the primary issue with the PMS system, but I have supplies.
“There are over 810 million litres of PMS in depots, tanks, and fuel stations across the country, so transferring them from marine to land is not a problem; they are already on land,” he explained.
He confirmed that the NNPCL was the source of the PMS pricing document for various states that trended on the internet on Wednesday.

President Joe Biden fell face-first on stage at the Air Force Academy in Colorado on Thursday after tripping over an obstruction, but he appeared unharmed.
Biden, 80, had just shook hands with a cadet and started walking back to his seat when he fell. He had just delivered the commencement address to graduates of the military academy.
Air Force personnel assisted him to his feet, and he did not appear to require additional assistance.
Biden pointed to the object that had apparently caught his foot as he rose to his feet. On stage, it resembled a small black sandbag.
Director of White House Communications Ben LaBolt tweeted shortly thereafter, “He’s fine. While he was shaking hands on stage, there was a sandbag present.”
Biden is the oldest person to ever hold the presidency and is running for re-election in 2024. This year, his official doctor’s report deemed him physically fit, and he exercises frequently.
Biden fractured his foot while playing with a pet dog in November 2020, shortly after defeating incumbent President Donald Trump and assuming office.

Subsidy removal: NNPC opens up on deadline for cessation of fuel queues
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) predicts that the fuel lines that greeted the recent removal of subsidy will soon disappear.
On Monday, during his inaugural address at the Eagle Square in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu declared that the era of fuel subsidy payments had ended, resulting in a nationwide price increase.
In addition, fuel lines reappeared across the nation as Nigerians scrambled to obtain the premium product, whose price increased from approximately N185 per litre to between N400 and N600 per litre.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, stated during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today that fuel lines will soon be a thing of the past.
The 5th of June, Kyari assured Nigerians that the current situation will not last, as the NNPC is diligently working to overcome obstacles.
“I don’t see it lasting more than another day or two,” the NNPCL chief said. “I do not foresee lines lasting beyond Saturday.”
“The primary issue with the PMS system is its supply,” Over 810 million litres of petroleum are stored in depots, tanks and petrol stations across the nation.
Therefore, there is no issue with transferring these. This indicates that you have supplies in your home. People panic and rush to petrol stations to purchase fuel. They are now aware of the pricing certainty, so they must return.”
