NANS Demands MultiChoice to Stop DSTV and Gotv Subscription Hikes

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has demanded that MultiChoice stop their DSTV and GOTV subscription hikes in Nigeria.

MultiChoice Nigeria was given a seven-day deadline to reverse its planned hike.

On Wednesday, the student association issued a statement signed by its Coordinator, Adejuwon Olatunji, Deputy Coordinator, Alao John, and Public Relations Officer, Opeoluwa Awoyinfa.

In text messages sent to subscribers, MultiChoice announced a 17% increase in prices for its DSTV and GOTV packages. It stated that the new rates would go into effect on May 1, 2023, and that rising business operating costs were the reason for the increase.

However, in opposing the subscription increase, NANS claimed that the South African company was causing hardship and extorting Nigerians without regard for their standard of living.

Tariffs should also be charged on a ‘pay as you view’ basis, according to the report.

“Today, we are aware that MultiChoice Digital Satellite has raised their tariffs without regard for Nigerians’ standard of living.” We have also waited a long time to see if this same company will dance to the tune of Nigerians who have been demanding pay as you view tariffs, but the opposite is true.

“Now is the time for the National Broadcasting Commission to return to the commission act in order to regulate the ownership, activities, and operations of Direct Broadcast Satellite Service Providers.” Since its inception in 1995, DSTV has been one of the leading direct-to-home service providers in Nigeria, and it has also made a lot of money with over 25 million subscribers, which is the largest market for its operations.

“We want the federal government to implement the pay-as-you-view system and to stampede their proposed tariff increase plan.” We are aware that DSTV has a pay-as-you-go tariff system in other countries.”

The student body demanded that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), and the Minister of Communication “break the sporting right of MultiChoice” and provide an alternative service provider in the country so that “Nigerians can stop being exploited on a daily basis.”

Adamawa Gov Poll: Court dismisses Aisha Binani’s suit against INEC

On Wednesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the suit filed by Senator Aisha Ahmed Binani, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress, to be declared the winner of the governorship election held in Adamawa State.

The court, in a ruling delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo, dismissed the lawsuit after the plaintiff filed a notice of discontinuance.

However, despite the fact that the APC candidate’s attorney, Mr. Mohammed Sheriff, requested that the case be dismissed, Justice Ekwo refused, stating that dismissal was the appropriate order since the court had previously directed the plaintiff to address it on the issue of jurisdiction.

Senator Binani had filed an ex-parte motion to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from announcing any other candidate as the winner of the governorship election in Adamawa State.

In the ex-parte application marked FHC/ABJ/CS/510/2023, the plaintiff requested permission to seek “an order of prohibition and certiorari removing to this court for the purpose of setting aside the administrative decision of the 1st Respondent made on 16th April 2023 in respect of the declaration of the winner of the gubernatorial election of Adamawa State held on the 18th of March, 2023 and the supplementary election held on the 15th of April 2023.”

As well as a court order “preventing the 1st Respondent, its agent, assign, or any person acting on its behalf from taking any further steps towards the declaration of the winner of the Adamawa State gubernatorial election held on March 18 and the supplementary election held on April 15, 2023, pending the determination of the application for judicial review.”

In contrast to the APC, which was listed as the 2nd Applicant in the lawsuit, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate/incumbent governor of the state, Ahmadu Fintiri, were listed as the 1st to 3rd Respondents.

In her lawsuit, the APC candidate asserted that she was declared the victor of the governorship election following the completion of the tabulation process.

“Following the declaration of Senator Aisha Dahiru Ahmed as the winner of the gubernatorial election, any dissatisfied candidate may seek redress before the tribunal.

“The 2nd Respondent, PDP, and the 3rd Respondent, Ahmadu Fintiri, both of whom lost the election, fought and caused a public disturbance, resulting in the beating and manhandling of a member of the 1st Respondent’s staff.”

“Due to the crisis caused by the second and third respondents, the first respondent announced on 16 April 2023 that it had revoked its initial declaration.”

She argued that INEC lacked the authority to cancel or declare void a previously made declaration.

“Only the Election Petition Tribunal established by the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) has the authority to make a declaration regarding the conduct of an election,” stated the Applicants.

Justice Ekwo denied the ex-parte application on April 18, while ordering the plaintiff to address him on whether or not the court had the necessary jurisdiction to hear the case.

The police officer was reported to have been absent from duty for two days after his return to Lokoja and was later located.
As a result of his unauthorised absence, Atobiloye was incarcerated, according to our correspondent.

A source recounting the incident’s circumstances stated that Atobiloye languished in the cell for eight days, and that the police officer perished in custody.

The source stated, “Every month, the Zone 8 Command selects police officers from each division and assigns them to special duty in Zone 8 Command, Lokoja. After one month, the police officers return home.”

“So, Atobiloye, who was assigned to the Oke Onigbin Division, was one of the police officers assigned to the Zone 8 Command in Lokoja. However, when he returned to duty, he missed two days of work and was detained in a cell for approximately eight days.

“When police officers checked on him in the cell, they discovered he had collapsed and perished in the cell. At the cell where he was detained, only offending police officers are typically detained, so it is likely that he was alone.

In a Facebook post, Femi Igbekele, a relative of the deceased officer, lamented the events that led to Atobiloye’s death and stated that his family members, including his wife, were unable to reach him by phone after he departed for special duty.

The post stated, “AP No. 232980 Inspector Taiye Atobiloye, serving at the Kwara State Command and attached to the Oke Onigbin Division, was dispatched to Lokoja Zone 8 on a special assignment known as Quick Intervention.”

“For the past eight days, all of his family members have been calling his phone number, but he has not answered. His wife has also called him, but he has not answered, until the news reached his family that he was detained at the D (Division) Lokoja and died in the cell.”

Ruth Awi, a spokesperson for the Zone 8 Command who corroborated the development when contacted, stated that Atobiloye, after reporting for special duty at the command, absconded and was nowhere to be found for two days until police officers discovered him drunk.

She stated that the officer was detained for his own protection and that he died in custody.
She stated, “He was detained at the D Division in Lokoja, not at the Zonal Headquarters.” He reported to the Zonal Headquarters and then vanished into thin air; there are penalties for those who abandon their duties without justification. But in his case, he not only missed work, he was also inebriated when he was discovered.

Court rules on EFCC’s asset forfeiture suit against Yahaya Bello

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday struck out an interim order of forfeiture obtained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, seeking to seize 14 properties allegedly linked to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo struck out the suit on the ground that Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution prevents the institution of any criminal or civil case against a sitting governor or the president.

The judge had, on February 22, granted the temporary forfeiture order following an ex parte motion filed by the anti-graft agency seeking to seize 14 properties located in Lagos, Abuja, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Court also directed the EFCC to make publication in two national dailies for any interested parties to show cause why the order should not be made absolute.

However, consequent upon the publication of the preservative order, Governor Bello filed a Notice of Intention to Oppose and an application seeking the vacation of the interim forfeiture order.

The governor premised his application on the ground that the property listed was not the proceeds of an unlawful act, as it was acquired long before he was elected Kogi State Governor and could not have been acquired from Kogi State funds.

He further stated that by Section 308 of the Constitution, the EFCC is prevented from instituting any civil or criminal suit against him.

He also protested the illegality of the filing of the suit by the EFCC on the ground that the case was in flagrant disobedience to a state high court order, which restrained the EFCC from investigating any account of the Kogi State Government pending the determination of the Motion on Notice.

He stated that the interim forfeiture order was obtained by either suppression or misrepresentation of facts by the Commission.

The governor also said that the Proceeds of Crime Act could not take effect in retrospect as the properties in dispute were acquired before he became Kogi State governor.

Read Also Detained Police officer Who Abandoned Work Dies In Cell

He said the validity of the Proceeds of Crime Act, 2022, was being challenged at the Supreme Court.

Regarding jurisdiction, the Governor stated that the properties listed were in Abuja, Kogi, and the UAE, and the personality involved is based in Lokoja, adding that the suit ought to have been instituted either in Abuja or in Kogi State. He, therefore, asked the court to vacate the case for lack of jurisdiction.

In his response, EFCC’s lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, said that the applicant had brought nothing before the court to convince the court to vacate the order.

He said, contrary to the submissions of the applicant, the Kogi State High Court or any other court in Nigeria had not stopped the EFCC from carrying out its constitutional duties.

In his ruling, Justice Nicholas Oweibo held that, given Section 308 of the Constitution, which provides immunity to a sitting governor from any civil or criminal prosecution, the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

Consequently, the court struck out the suit for lack of jurisdiction.

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa, stated yesterday that having dual citizenship does not preclude anyone born in Nigeria from running for office.

His clarification came amid claims that the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate and now President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was disqualified from contesting the recently concluded general elections due to his alleged possession of a Guinean passport.

However, Aondoakaa, in an interview with Arise TV, stated that dual citizenship could only disqualify someone who obtained it through naturalisation or registration. Before dual citizenship could become an issue, the former AGF stated that the complainants must first establish that Tinubu was not a Nigerian by birth.

He stated that the issue was not raised in the petition filed before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal by the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party counterpart, Mr Peter Obi. Aondoakaa added, “But assuming it was raised in the petition, the position of the law is that a person who has dual citizenship by naturalisation or registration cannot contest for president in Nigeria.”

“However, a person born in Nigeria and granted citizenship in another country has the right to run in an election.” ”It would be strange to say that Tinubu, the election winner, has dual citizenship.”You must first demonstrate that he is not a Nigerian by birth. That is the first challenge, and if you can demonstrate it, you can raise the issue of obtaining another citizenship.

”The dual citizenship allegation was not included in either party’s electoral petition and is more of an academic exercise. I am also confident that it is not a point raised in the petition presented by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Almost every year since his breakout has featured a highly-anticipated performance — usually in December — to deepen his connection with a home audience that has played a critical role in propelling him to global attention. Last year was a break from that norm due to the heartbreaking passing of his three-year-old son which necessitated a needed reprieve from his role as afropop’s premier starter, if only for a while.

The arrival of Davido’s fourth album, Timeless, at the end of March always meant that things were going to get kicked up a notch as Davido returned to public life. With a favourable public reaction to the album, the prospect of those lively Davido performances making a return was basically a foregone conclusion. Last Sunday, the Davido Timeless Event rolled into Lagos at the Tafawa Balewa Square with thousands of people coming to celebrate an artist who has provided countless moments of joy for them. Here are six highlights from Davido’s Lagos Timeless concert.

Lagos was delighted to see Davido’s comeback

It had been nearly 18 months since Davido performed in Lagos, and there was palpable excitement in the days leading up to the Timeless concert. That enthusiasm was shared by a large crowd at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS). Despite the fact that the event began hours after its scheduled 2 p.m. start time, the streets around TBS had been packed since the afternoon as people came out to celebrate Davido’s return. Once the event began, the biggest applause was reserved for Davido, who performed for over two hours, with fans enthusiastically singing both old and new songs and responding to every cue from the DMW boss.

Davido Timeless concert in Lagos: A world-class production

With so much riding on the Timeless Event, there was no way Davido would settle for a concert that would be forgotten quickly. He promised to put on a great show in a social media post. “To all of my Fans and Friends, I’m looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow,” he said. “We have set the stage for a world-class show like never before in the city of Lagos.”

That promise was kept, as every effort was made to provide a fitting event for his home audience. The time and effort put into making this a successful production were on display, from the massive stage outfitted with invisible screens that formed a replica of Lagos’ iconic National Theatre to well-defined sitting and standing areas and a sound system that worked flawlessly. Fans were able to enjoy live performances from Davido and his supporting cast, with the exception of ticketing issues.

    Timeless discography

Few people can boast the discography that Davido possesses. The 30-year-old’s discography is chock-full of songs that span genres, moods, and emotions. Davido’s nearly three-hour-long performance on Sunday demonstrated just how deeply rooted in afrobeats history and culture he is with fans who can correctly follow every song from the first second. The crowd was pumped up by songs like “Dami Duro,” “Back When,” “Gobe”, “Skelewu”, “Aye” and “FIA.”

With the eager response of the crowd and how easily songs from Timeless synced with other songs from Davido’s previous eras, the show was also a true measure of how well-accepted the new album has come. From opening his set with the emotional “LCND,” to having the crowd sing-along for “FEEL,” to closing with the Musa Keys-featuring “UNAVAILABLE,” Davido demonstrated the depths of a truly timeless discography he has built over the course of 12 years.

    An electrifying Asake cameo

In the midst of a night filled with outstanding performances, YBNL’s Asake managed to capture the public’s attention and stand out. It didn’t take long for Davido to land on “NO COMPETITION,” his collab with Asake, after inviting guests from his Timeless album to share the stage with him during song performances. Some of the loudest applause of the night came when the “Sungba” singer jumped on stage to join Davido for his verse. Following that, Asake delighted the audience by performing two more of his own hits, “Joha” and “Terminator.”

We got to see the new and old DMW

The announcement that Davido would be refreshing the roster of his celebrated record label, DMW, was an intriguing subplot to the release of Timeless. Fans were introduced to the talented acts expected to lead the second iteration of his label, Morravey and Logos Olorim, who appeared on Timeless on “IN THE GARDEN” and “PICASSO,” respectively, as part of that announcement.

Sunday’s Timeless Event was their big break, as they shared the stage with Davido for live renditions of their songs, offering a glimpse into the talents that have made them Davido’s hand-picked proteges. Morravey and Logos Olori’s success, on the other hand, will undoubtedly build on the success of the DMW alumni who helped the label become one of the most influential Nigerian record labels of the 2010s. DMW alumni such as Mayorkun and Peruzzi were on the ground to treat the audience to some of their old hits as well as songs such as “The Best” and “Majesty,” reminding concert-goers of the timeless music made during DMW’s earlier years.

    An Adeleke family party

Davido has repeatedly demonstrated that family and friends are an important part of his life. So it was no surprise to see members of the Adeleke family prominently featured at the Timeless Event. Davido’s cousins, B-Red and Sina Rambo, were given ample time to perform some of their songs, while their father, Osun state governor Ademola Jackson Adeleke, was given a special moment of recognition by Davido before the line dedicated to him on “OVER DEM”- “Who knows say Uncle Demola go become governor”- was performed with aplomb to an audience that shouted the line right back at Davido.

Harry Belafonte, singer, actor and activist, dies at age 96

Renowned singer, actor, and human rights activist Harry Belafonte passed away on Tuesday at the age of 96 due to congestive heart failure. He was a trailblazer in breaking down racial barriers and skillfully balanced his activism with his artistry, which captivated audiences worldwide.

Renowned entertainer and EGOT holder, Harry Belafonte, passed away at his residence in New York, as confirmed by his publicist. Belafonte had won the prestigious Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards during his illustrious career.

Harry Belafonte was a performer who exuded style, class, and charisma. During the 1950s, the recordings made by the artist for RCA Victor, notably his rendition of the Jamaican folk melody “Day-O” (also referred to as “The Banana Boat Song”), sparked a widespread fascination with calypso music. Belafonte’s charming appearance and his unbuttoned shirt that revealed his chest were highly admired by both Black and white audiences during a time when America was still largely segregated.

Harry Belafonte, the renowned singer and social activist, was born in the vibrant neighbourhood of Harlem. The individual’s parents hailed from the Caribbean, with his mother being of Jamaican descent and his father originating from the island of Martinique. Raised by his mother, a cleaning lady, he returned to her homeland of Jamaica and immersed himself in the local culture.

According to NPR, the singer revealed in 2011 that his rendition of “The Banana Boat Song” was influenced by the street vendors’ melodies he had heard.

According to him, the composition is categorised as a work song. The story centres around male workers who endure long hours of physical labour, resulting in excessive perspiration, while receiving inadequate compensation for their efforts. The workers are requesting the presence of the tallyman to provide an accurate calculation of their labour: ‘Please tally the quantity of bananas I’ve harvested, so that I may receive rightful compensation.’ According to the artist, when individuals sing and dance joyfully to a particular song, they may not fully comprehend the underlying message unless they take the time to analyse the lyrics. The song in question is believed to be a work song that conveys a message of rebellion.

The rebellious song proved to be a huge success. Calypso, the album, achieved remarkable success by topping the newly introduced album charts of Billboard for multiple weeks in 1956.

Harry Belafonte, a renowned musician and actor, reportedly left high school and enlisted in the Navy several years ago. Following his service in World War II, he found employment as an assistant to a caretaker. However, his life took an unexpected turn when he received tickets to attend a performance at the American Negro Theatre. The individual was completely engrossed.

During his training, he was joined by renowned actors Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee. In addition, he began performing as a singer in various clubs. In a short period of time, he secured a recording contract.

In 1954, a Tony Award was won by him for his work in the revue titled “John Murray Anderson’s Almanack: A Musical Harlequinade.” The individual in question has graced both the silver screen and television screens, showcasing their talents in acting and entertainment. In 1959, CBS granted him a one-hour show. The Revlon Revue: Tonight With Belafonte, a show featuring a diverse cast of Black and white performers, showcased an array of dance numbers and folk songs. In a historic moment, the programme was awarded an Emmy Award, marking the first time an African American has received this prestigious accolade.

According to sources, Revlon has reportedly requested additional shows from him. Belafonte has revealed that CBS stations located in the Southern region of the United States expressed their dissatisfaction with the integrated cast of the network. According to his statements in interviews, he was requested to create a project that solely featured Black individuals. According to the individual, they declined and subsequently departed from the programme.

Harry Belafonte, a renowned singer and actor, was a close confidant of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In 1963, he played a key role in the organisation of the Freedom March on Washington, during which King delivered his iconic “I Have A Dream” speech.

According to Clarence Jones, one of the drafters of the speech, in a 2011 interview with NPR’s Fresh Air, it was Harry Belafonte who provided guidance on how to effectively utilise the influence of television. According to Jones, the individual stated that it was important to view the event not only as a march, but also as a media spectacle. Harry was tasked with organising the ‘celebrity delegation,’ comprising numerous Hollywood stars and performing artists. The individual in question was insistent that a specific strategic location on the podium be occupied by a particular group, as they were aware that the television cameras would focus on them. The individual expressed a desire to strategically position themselves in order to capture both the attention of the celebrities and the essence of the march and other performers in the same frame.

During Dr King’s incarceration in a Birmingham jail, Harry Belafonte spearheaded efforts to raise funds for his bail. In her autobiography, Coretta Scott King expressed gratitude towards Harry for his unwavering support during difficult times. She wrote, “His generous heart wide-open, Harry has always come to our aid whenever we got into trouble or when tragedy struck.”

The relationship between Harry Belafonte and the King family became strained when the singer and actor filed a lawsuit against Martin Luther King Jr.’s estate in 2013. Belafonte attempted to auction off three documents that King had given him in order to raise funds for nonprofit work. The family accused Belafonte of “wrongfully acquiring” the documents, leading to a legal dispute. The legal dispute between Belafonte and the estate was resolved outside of court the following year, resulting in Belafonte retaining possession of the materials.

Belafonte has been recognised with several accolades for his contributions to both humanitarian causes and the arts over the course of his career. In addition, he played a key role in coordinating Nelson Mandela’s initial visit to the United States following his release from incarceration.

The individual in question was known for being a vocal opponent of those in positions of authority, including former President Barack Obama. In fact, he publicly reprimanded Obama for what he perceived as a lack of attention to the needs of impoverished individuals. During an interview, the individual specifically mentioned Jay-Z and Beyonce, both African American artists, and accused them of neglecting their social responsibilities. In his track “Nickels And Dimes,” Jay-Z issued a response, stating “Mr. Day-O, major fail.” The reconciliation between the two men eventually took place.

Renowned activist Harry Belafonte remained committed to his cause well into his 90s. During an interview with NPR in 2011, he revealed that this was a valuable lesson he learned from his mother.

She displayed a remarkable level of tenacity when it came to preserving her dignity, refusing to let it be trampled upon. During a conversation, she recounted a day where she had difficulty securing employment. With tears welling up in her eyes, she passionately urged, “It’s crucial to never turn a blind eye to injustice.”

Belafonte’s close friend Sidney Poitier once described him as a “invaluable energy force” and a person who always displayed courage.

Renowned singer and activist Harry Belafonte is survived by his wife, Pamela Frank, along with four children, two stepchildren, and eight grandchildren.

The monarch of the Otutubiosun royal dynasty passed away recently at the age of 97 and after 33 years of reign.

Biodun Oyebanji, the governor of Ekiti State, is a native of Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area, a community renowned and respected as a world-class resort centre where cold and mild springs converge.

On Tuesday, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, conveyed the condolence message during a visit to Onikogosi’s palace in Ekiti West Local Government Area.

Mrs. Afuye sympathised with Governor Oyebanji and members of the Onikogosi-in-council on the passing of the traditional ruler, whom she described as a champion of peace and development during his tenure, when she addressed the monarch’s widow, Olori Funmilayo Olorunnisola, who received the entourage.

Even though Kabiyesi is not typically mourned in Yoruba culture, there is no way we won’t miss Oba Olorunnisola, who had a propensity for love, peace, and progress. We are certain that he will be greatly mourned.

“We implore you to approach the current situation with composure. We should accept the fact that Kabiyesi has joined his ancestors after meritoriously serving you. There is nothing that can be done. We ask God to sustain the family he left behind.

“Rather than lamenting Kabiyesi’s passing, you should pray for the land’s advancement and development beyond what he left behind. Kabiyesi was fortunate to have lived so long and to have ruled for more than three decades. These uncommon opportunities merit celebration.

“We must also pray for a tranquil ascent onto the empty stool. God will replace the void he left for you, and those of you who remained should continue where he left off.

Disregard Apapa’s Letter Seeking Withdrawal Of Obi’s Cases Against Tinubu, LP Tells Tribunal

On Tuesday, the Labour Party (LP) voiced concern over a move by a self-proclaimed factional chairman of the party, Lamidi Apapa, who asked the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to dismiss all cases brought by his party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against the victory of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25, 2023 election.

Obiora Ifoh, the interim National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, issued a statement on Tuesday urging the Abuja Tribunal to disregard the “antics” of suspended Labour Party Deputy National Chairman Apapa.

“By means of this proclamation, we are informing all branches of the judicial system, including tribunals and courts, to disregard the ignoble antics of these compromised suspended party members.

We also request that the police, DSS, and EFCC apprehend these enemies of democracy,” he said in a statement posted on the party’s website.

Ifoh stated that Apapa and his co-travelers are frantic to please their paymasters, who are intent on threatening the democracy of Nigeria.

“Appealing to the tribunals to withdraw all cases filed by Labour Party candidates across the board is the height of subterfuge and duplicity, and Nigerians will resist this scheme to plunge the nation into needless chaos.

“Their actions demonstrate that they are working against the party and to bring about its demise. If they claim to have issues with the national leadership of the party, will they also claim to have issues with the party’s candidates? What offence have the party’s candidates committed that has prompted them to withdraw their cases from the tribunal?

“Therefore, the leadership of the Labour Party requests that all tribunals disregard any correspondence from our suspended National Legal Adviser, Samuel Akingbade, stating that all of our cases are to be withdrawn.

“We are also requesting that the presidential election tribunal disregard letters from these former party officials requesting that HE Peter Obi’s petition be withdrawn,” the statement noted.

Following a new legal dispute within the party, Apapa declared himself the national chairman of the LP earlier in April. In response to the development, Labour Party state chairmen in the 36 federated states disowned the factional leadership and threw their support behind Julius Abure as party leader.

Apapa insisted, however, that he is the national leader of the party, as the court had suspended Abure and other national officers. “If that has occurred, what else is possible?” “The next person should take over,” he said on Sunday Politics on Channels Television.
