    ‘I Turned Down N100 Million Offer To Step Down’ —-33-Year-Old Fish Seller Who Defeated Yobe Assembly Speaker

     

     

    Lawan Majakura, a 33-year-old fish seller who defeated the speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Ahmed Mirwa Lawan in the 18 March House of Assembly election says he was offered N100m to step down for the Speaker.

     

     

     

    Majakura in an interview with our correspondent said Lawan’s representative approached him twice to shelve his ambition and end his campaign.

     

    He said he was initially offered N18m before the bid was increased to N100m but he rejected both offers.

     

    The 33-year old house member-elect said his village people, who were mostly farmers and fish sellers, bought nomination forms for him and funded his campaign throughout the electioneering process.

     

    “A government official and some people I thought were his representatives came to me two times, telling me to step down. They promised to give me N18m, but I refused. Later on, they came back and offered me N100m, but still I refused.

     

    “I told them that my village people bought the nomination forms for me because they believed I would do better, so I did not see any reason to step down for anybody. I told them to meet my people if they actually wanted me to step down for whoever sent them to me.

     

     

    I even told my people what we discussed but we all agreed that I would not step down, so we moved on with our campaign,” he said.

     

    On his plans for his constituents, Majakura said he will prioritize on education and healthcare.

     

    “I will prioritise education by renovating our classrooms. I will make sure that we employ good teachers and provide learning materials.

     

    “Secondly, our health care facilities need serious attention by providing drugs and medical personnel. We have more than 40 communities,” he added.

     

    Ejes Gist News had earlier reported how Majakura of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) defeated the speaker in a heated election contest.

     

     

    He scored 6,648 votes, to defeat Mirwa, who scored 6,466 votes.

    Emeka Ihedioha has just joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of November 2023 election in Imo State.

     

     

    Ejes Gist News was the first to break the news of his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party and the politics behind it.

     

    You would recall that this newspaper had earlier reported the options before the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and revealed that key players along with “Obidients” in general are opposed to his initial move to join Labour Party.

     

    A report monitored on ENigeria Newspaper by Ejes Gist News quoted a reliable source to have said that Ihedioha joined Imo APGA after he was met with heavy resistance from Obidients who practically tore him to shreds over his derogatory comment in a video that trended online.

     

    Ihedioha To Dump PDP Over Rift With National Secretary, Samdaddy

     

    Supporters of Peter Obi upon getting hints of the moves by Emeka Ihedioha mobilized to resist the former Deputy Speaker; citing the betrayal from him by particularly campaigning against Labour Party and Peter Obi as well as working against them during the just-ended presidential election in the state.

     

    After several failed negotiations and persuasions, the embattled former lawmaker was advised to join APGA which he did.

     

     

    A source further revealed that since the resignation of Iyocha Ayu, things have not remained the same in PDP as loyalists of the embattled Chairman are not a target of the new head honcho, Umar Iliya Damagum.

     

     

     

    Meanwhile, Ejes Gist News reports that Emeka Ihedioha, who served as governor of the state for seven months before the Supreme Court announced Hope Uzodimma as the winner of the 2019 governorship election, withdrew from Imo PDP Primary earlier this week, citing the interest of the party as his reason for the shocking withdrawal.

     

    Ejes Gist News understands that Emeka Ihedioha’s withdrawal was contained in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party.

     

     

    According to him, “In the interest of harmony and unity of the Party, I have decided to make the personal sacrifice of withdrawing from further participation in the processes leading to the emergence of the gubernatorial candidate.”

     

    The former Imo governor appealed to supporters to understand and accept his decision, lamenting that those who had started mobilizing for him may be disappointed.

     

    “And I am sure many of those who have, on their own, already started mobilizing for me in Imo State will be disappointed.

     

     

     

    “I sincerely seek their understanding and that of associates, admirers and particularly the electorates who have over the years aligned themselves and identified with my political aspirations,” he added.

    1) On Friday, members of the Muslim community in Ile-Ife, Osun State, staged a demonstration in response to the alleged invasion of a mosque in the Ilare region by Oro adherents. The protesters asserted that on Thursday, traditionalists entered the mosque, where Muslims had gathered to observe the 4 p.m. prayers, and assaulted those they discovered inside.

     

    2) Ayodele Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, has asked the Peoples Democratic Party to apologise for suspending him. He described his suspension as “libellous and slanderous” in an attempt to tarnish his reputation.

     

    3) On Friday, the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party announced that the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, has been suspended due to allegations of corruption and other infractions. Abure’s suspension was announced at a press conference in Abuja, where the aggrieved party officials revealed that the sanction was the result of a group decision. However, the national headquarters of the party has rejected the suspension. Read More

     

    4) Friday marked the end of the controversy surrounding Chief Timipre Sylva’s rumoured resignation as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources. His resignation was confirmed by the Presidency. Bashir Ahmad, special assistant to the president for digital communications, revealed this via his verified Twitter account. According to him, Sylva resigned to pursue his desire to become governor.

     

    5) Tonye Cole, the candidate for governor of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, has expressed concern over the refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to comply with the court order directing it to release the Certified True Copies of documents used in the governorship elections to the party. He stated that the behaviour was suspicious.

     

    6) Yesterday, the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) sealed off the BON Platinum Hotel’s hall in Enugu’s Independence Layout. The venue was where the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, issued certificates to Governor-elect Peter Mbah, deputy Governor-elect Ifeanyi Ossai, and members-elect of the House of Assembly.

     

    7) Fredrick Nwajagu, the Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos, has vowed to invite members of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Lagos in order to protect Igbo properties in the state. In a Friday Twitter post, @DeeOneAyekooto shared a 49-second video of Nwajagu stating that the move was necessitated by attacks on Igbo people in the state.

     

    8) Two Chinese nationals, Meng Wei Kun and Xu Kuai, were sentenced to three years in prison for corruption by the Sokoto Division of the Court of Appeal. It was learned that the convicts had been arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto on three counts of conspiracy, money laundering, and attempted bribery.

     

    9) Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has informed Abba Kabir Yusuf, also known as Abba Gida-Gida, that he remains in charge. In response to an earlier public warning issued by Yusuf, the governor stated this. The incoming governor requested that individuals refrain from entering public buildings and refrain from constructing anything on government land, schools, and other public locations.

     

    10) In Otukpo Local Government areas of Benue state, three people have been killed and a number of homes have been destroyed as a result of the ongoing electricity supply crisis. On Friday, Lt. Col. Paul Hemba, Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Security Matters, confirmed this to Newsmen.
