Democracy Doesn’t Exist Anymore In Nigeria — APC Senator, Ali Ndume

A lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly, Ali Ndume says democracy doesn’t exist anymore in Nigeria.

Ndume said Kleptocrats and Plutocrats have taken over Nigeria.

Speaking further, the lawmaker says the performance of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections showed that youths and the middle class are getting tired of the older generation who have been in government for decades.

Ndume, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, also said LP’s performance at the just-concluded elections surpassed his expectations.

Asked if the outcome of the polls fitted his expectations, Ndume said, “Yeah, but there were surprises in some places – Lagos, (and the) South-East. The performance of LP actually is above my expectation.”

Ndume, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, has been in the National Assembly for 20 years. The chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said he never thought that the flag bearer of the Labour Party, Peter Obi could get over six million votes at the poll over a months ago.

Asked that he never thought that Peter Obi could pull such strings, Ndume said, “Yeah, even in the general elections all over, especially. He (Obi) had six million votes.

“It goes to tell something that people don’t talk about: and that is to say that the signs are out there that the middle income group or social group and the youths are getting tired of the – do I even include myself? — upper level: people in their 70s and 80s who have been in the corridors of power since they were in their 30s.”

He claimed that on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, NDLEA agents at the NAHCO import wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, intercepted a shipment of 32.70 kilogrammes of Loud, a potent variety of cannabis hidden in cartons of used clothing, the shipment blowing the lid off the cartel.

According to the NDLEA spokesperson, Ukoh Ifeanyi Oguguo, a goods agent, was detained right away, and subsequent inquiries resulted in the detention of four additional suspects: Chikodi Favour, Obiyom Shalom Chiamaka, Nnochiri Chidinma Promise, and Edward Omatseye (aka Montana).

Part of the statement reads, “The 15-year-old Favour was the first sales girl to be arrested at a fuel station in the Ajah area of Lagos.”

She then took the agents to a duplex apartment in the Ikate neighbourhood of Lekki, which was later found to be a rental apartment used by the criminal organisation specifically for four young girls who are used by the syndicate for marketing and distribution of illegal drugs.

“Another girl, Shalom, who recently graduated from Rivers State University of Science and Technology’s agricultural science programme, was chosen from the house alongside Favour.

2023 Polls: Owelle Berates Lauretta Onochie For Working Against Tinubu

Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Jerry, who doubles as the Owelle of Onicha Olona, has berated the Chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Lauretta Onochie, for working against Tinubu’s presidential election and failing to deliver her polling unit and her ward to the party during the just-concluded 2023 general elections.

Speaking with select journalists in the Aniocha North Local Government Area on Sunday

Owelle said Lauretta’s refusal to even win her polling unit for APC is a deliberately calculated political strategy to ensure Tinubu fails, but to God be the glory, it is a different story after she works against the party and delivers Peter Obi in her polling unit. Go and check the results in the public space.

“What can Lauretta tell me now that she could not deliver her ward?” She could not deliver her polling unit because she worked against our presidential candidate. A small circle of people in her unit, she can’t control them.

You lost, and you are saying you are working for the party. If you have lost it in your small unit, of what value are you to the party?

The results are very clear in my own Ward 4 Unit 001 presidential results: APC 53, PDP 21, LP 51, Senate APC 65, PDP 40, LP 30, Rep APC 59, PDP 42, LP 26.

In Lauretta Onochie Ward 4, Unit 8, presidential election results: APC 16, PDP 27, LP 38. It is shameful that she cannot deliver her polling unit with all the tools at her disposal in her position as chairperson of the NDDC.

Lauretta Onochie didn’t commit herself to the success of the party during the elections. The indefinite suspension followed a series of complaints about her from party members in the ward and the local government.

The inability to win her polling unit confirmed her lack of commitment to the party. She has been suspended from all party activities through the appropriate quarters. Owelle said the executives of the ward made this known while addressing the media.

According to them, Luratta Onochie failed to assist the party at the ward level in the 2023 general elections.

Lauretta did not lend a heLPing hand during the presidential and governorship elections in the state. Owelle concluded

More Powerful Forces Are Emerging, They Want A New Direction and You Can’t Ignore It – Soyinka Tells Tinubu

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has urged the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to work on Nigeria’s restructuring once he is inaugurated.

The Professor warned that all other policies and efforts by the incoming administration may fail if Tinubu fails to address the issues of restructuring.

According to Soyinka, the demand for restructuring is one issue that won’t disappear and the government must understand and address the demands coming from Nigerians.

The Nobel Laureate pointed out that new and more powerful forces are emerging and demanding restructuring so the incoming administration of Tinubu must address the demands if it wants to succeed.

Speaking during an interview on Roadmap 2023, a Channels Television’s programme, Prof. Soyinka said: “Whomever it is must understand that the people of this country will not cease demanding a restructuring of this nation.

“New voices are being heard and they are more powerful than before. They are not just whining voices, they are voices based on actualities. We have failed in so many directions and they are saying, ‘let us try in this direction’ and you cannot ignore it.

“Otherwise, even your economic policies will fail, your infrastructure and transformation will fail. We will just go back threading the same old spur”.

Eventually, the moment of truth arrived when Ebuka unlocked the box containing the winner’s name amid chants of Kanaga and Khosi in the packed studio. As they retrieved the envelopes, the two finalists embraced and silently prayed that their names would be in the envelope containing the winner’s name.

As her name was announced as the winner, Khosi fell to her knees with her mouth wide open in a moment of pure elation. Her housemates rushed onto the stage to congratulate her on her deserved victory. The love triangle between Khosi, Yemi Cregx, and Thabang was a highlight of the season, making her a fan favourite throughout the competition.

Now, Khosi has won the coveted cash prize and cemented her place in history as the very first Big Brother Titans champion.

Are You Sure He’s Okay? He Can’t Walk Well” – Nigerians React As Video Of Tinubu In France Surfaces

A terse video of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu taking a stroll on the streets of Paris, France, has heightened the speculations that he is battling with a health challenge and had visited the European country for treatment.

As commenters detail their observations on the video, myriad of Nigerians submitted that Mr. Tinubu appeared physically challenged and could barely walk well.

The video, which was shared by Festus Keyamo on Twitter, depicts Tinubu walking with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila in France.

Keyamo’s caption to the video reads: “The President-elect, @officialABAT taking a stroll on the streets of Paris this evening (about an hour ago) with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.”

    Watch The Video Below

Commenting on the video, @MarkJadon, a concerned Nigerian, wrote: “Tinubu can barely walk well in this video. Are you sure he is okay?”

@Square said: “Lol…taking a stroll and walking like someone they are escorting to Golgotha. This is what they selected for us as president in 2023, in a country full of people who are knowledgeable, mentally sound and physically strong. We too dey play for Nigeria.”

Recall that on the 22nd March, Bola Tinubu was said to have travelled to Paris, France, to rest and plan the transition programme ahead of his inauguration on 29 May.

Mr Tunde Rahman was quoted as saying: “After a very exhaustive campaign and election season, President-elect, Asíwájú Bola Tinubu, has travelled abroad to rest and plan his transition programme ahead of May 29, 2023 inauguration.

The President-elect left the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja for Europe on Tuesday night.

“The President-elect decided to take a break after the hectic campaign and election season to rest in Paris and London, preparatory to going to Saudi Arabia for Umrah (Lesser Hajj) and the Ramadan Fasting that begins Thursday.

While away, the President-elect will also use the opportunity to plan his transition programme. He is expected back in the country soon,” Mr Rahman said.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have continued to show concerns over the reports that the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is hospitalized.

Few week ago, Deji Adeyanju, a human rights’ activist, prayed for God to keep the President-elect alive for the betterment of Nigeria.

Deji wrote: “May nothing happen to Tinubu because I can’t stand that Boko Haram guy at all.”

Responding to Deji’s prayer, @EzeIfeanyi said: “Now you are thinking what people were thinking! But it’s too late. You did not agree when you were told that your party will not make it. You built confidence in your structure, now your structure dey gutter. Sorry.”

Arrest of APC lawyers in Rivers is a lesson that tyranny has no permanent alliance or friendship — Shehu Sani

Arrest of APC lawyers in Rivers is a lesson that tyranny has no permanent alliance or friendship — Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the arrest of three lawyers filing proceedings at the election petition tribunal for the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawyers, Messrs Jerry Aondo, Dr. Sobere Nelson, and Odum Eyiba, were said to be putting together the petition in a hotel in the state when they were arrested by the police on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

    See Shehu Sani tweet below…

The arrest of the APC lawyers in Rivers is deplorable and unacceptable; but this is also a lesson that tyranny has no permanent alliance of friendship,” Shehu stated on Twitter.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday morning, April 2, said five APC support staff working with the legal team to challenge the outcome of the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state were picked alongside the lawyers early on Saturday morning in a hotel in Port Harcourt.

Tonye Cole, Rivers APC gov candidate’s Lawyers arrested

According to Iringe-Koko, the arrest followed a tip-off that some unknown lodgers were seen carrying packages in and out of the rooms and printing suspected election materials “The attention of the Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to the news of the arrest of lawyers handling APC election matters.

It is important to inform the public of what really happened,” the statement read. “On 31/3/23 at about 11.20 am, information was received that some lodgers occupying three rooms in a popular hotel were seen carrying packages in and out of the rooms, and printing what seems like INEC documents (including results).

“A video recording of the activities in one of the rooms was forwarded by the informant to the Police Commissioner. The information neither disclosed the identity of the lodgers nor who they were working for.

“As a responsible law enforcement agency, the police needed to act on the intelligence. Thus, based on the report, the police approached the court to obtain a search warrant

“The warrant was dutifully executed on 1/4/23 at about 7.02 am. In the course of the search, eight persons were arrested, and several documents, laptops and printers were recovered.”

“The arrested persons and exhibits were taken to the Surveillance Centre and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department. An Assistant Commissioner of Police was tasked to lead the investigation team.

“It was in the process of profiling them that it was revealed that three of the arrested persons were lawyers. The APC State Chairman and the party governorship candidate in the last election showed up at the station to inform the police that the lawyers were hired by the party to prepare their papers for filling at the election tribunal

“Subsequently, the NBA President and General Secretary called the Commissioner of Police, who assured them that the lawyers would be released when they had finished making their statements. “

“Accordingly, the lawyers were promptly released on self-recognizance, while the other five persons were released to a reliable surety. “Meanwhile, since the investigating team lacked the technical competence to establish the veracity of the suspected printed fake INEC documents, the State REC was requested to send the Commission’s ICT personnel to inspect and identify the documents.

“The Police Command wishes to assure that once that is done, the most appropriate and professional thing will be done.” The PPRO enjoins members of the public to continue to furnish the police with useful information and report every suspicious movement around them. “The effectiveness of Community Policing is predicated on collaboration and information sharing.” She added
