Interesting things you didn’t know about the U.S. dollar

You know that our money is the United States dollar. Did you know…

-There are three parts to a dollar: the penny, the nickel, and the dime. There are 100 cents in a dollar.

-The first dollar was made in 1792. It was used in the colonies instead of the Spanish dollar, which was used before.

-The dollar is the currency that is traded the most around the world.

-The dollar is also the currency that is most often faked around the world.

The US Dollar: A Brief History

Did you know that the history of the US dollar is pretty interesting? It was made when the Coinage Act was passed by the US government in 1792. This law made the US dollar the official currency of the country.

Since then, there have been a few changes to the dollar. For example, in 1854, the US stopped using Spanish coins and started using American ones. And in 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt took the US off the gold standard. This meant that the dollar could no longer be traded for gold.

The US dollar is one of the most popular currencies in the world right now. Over 60% of all transactions between countries take place in US dollars. So the next time you spend your vacation dollars in a foreign country, you can be sure that you are using a currency that has been around for a while!

Who Maintains the Production of US Currency?

The United States Mint is responsible for producing US dollar paper currency. It is a government agency that falls under the Treasury Department. They are responsible for producing both paper currency and coins.

Interestingly, each bill and coin’s design is determined by the president. The Mint then creates a prototype and submits it for approval to the Treasury. It is then put into production. Therefore, each bill and coin in circulation has been authorised by the president, which is why they often bear his or her image.

What are the Facts Influencing the Dollar to Naira Black Market Exchange rate for today ?

Here are some of the reasons for the dollar-to-naira exchange rate’s decline.

Inflation Rates: It is common knowledge that inflation has a direct impact on black market exchange rates. The naira will benefit if the Nigerian economy can be stabilised and inflation is brought under control; however, if the naira continues to fall, it may indicate that food and other necessities are becoming more expensive on a daily basis.

Interest Rates: Interest rates are another tool to keep an eye on. If the interest rate at which banks lend money rises, the economy will contract, and the value of the naira will fall as a result.

Government debt has the potential to affect investor confidence and, as a result, the flow of funds into the economy. If inflows are high, the naira exchange rate will rise in its favour.

Speculators: Speculators have a significant impact on the Dollar to Naira Black Market Exchange rate for today . They hoard money in anticipation of a profit, causing the naira to fall even further.

Trade Conditions: Although Nigeria is currently running a trade deficit, favourable trade terms will lead to an increase in the value of the Nigerian currency to the dollar. China, India, and the majority of Asian countries supply everything.

Ray Liotta, a 67-year-old American actor and producer, died unexpectedly. The well-known actor died peacefully while sleeping after apparently suffering a heart attack late at night while filming Dangerous Waters in the Dominican Republic.

Ray Liotta, who played Shoeless Joe Jackson in Field of Dreams and the charming bandit in Goodfellas, has died at the age of 76. This is yet another case of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS), a newly discovered illness that has Australian doctors stumped.

Furthermore, there is no evidence that Ray Liotta’s death was caused by any illnesses or physical issues.

He didn’t address any potential health issues. Furthermore, no one in the family ever brought it up. As a result, it’s still unclear what killed him and why.

Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, or SADS, occurs when a person under the age of 40 dies unexpectedly and an autopsy and toxicology tests reveal no cause of death. Arrhythmia is a condition in which the heart beats irregularly, causing the body’s cardiovascular system, respiration, and awareness to fail.

Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome is another name for the condition (SADS). When the heart develops an arrhythmia, also known as an irregular rhythm, the majority of SADS cases occur. This can cause the heart to beat too fast or too slowly. Arrhythmias can cause cardiac arrest if they are not identified and treated.

    Ray Liotta Cause of Death.

What disease did Ray Liotta have? Despite social media speculation, no official reports indicate that the actor was ill at the time of his death.

According to Desert Review, Ray Liotta died in his sleep. In his hotel room, his fiance discovered him dead. Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS), which can go undiagnosed, is suspected as the cause of death.

Liotta was killed while filming “Dangerous Waters” in the Dominican Republic.

He appeared to be in good physical condition. There was no evidence that he had COVID-19 side effects or had received any vaccinations.

Fact #4: He died next to his fiancée.

Ray proposed to former hairstylist Jacy Nittolo in December 2020, and she was with him when he died.

Jacy, in fact, dialled 911 around 6 a.m. on that Thursday morning.

This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Dominican Republic’s General Direction of Cinema:

We understand he was accompanied by his [fiancée], and she has asked that you respect her grief.

Fact #5: He did not die as a result of a vaccine, according to his fiancée.

His fiancée, who was with Ray Liotta at the time of his death, did not blame the COVID-19 vaccine for his death.

She only mentioned the life they shared together in her Instagram post about the tragedy:

My life has been nothing short of magical in recent years.
Ray and I have a deep love for each other that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
We were inseparable and laughed every day.
In the best way possible, the chemistry was explosive.

Visitors to the Dominican Republic will no longer be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination upon arrival beginning April 23, 2022.

The government also lifted all COVID-19 restrictions on February 16, 2022, after “100% of tourism sector personnel… have been vaccinated with two doses and are in the process of being vaccinated with a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.”

  • NLC issues fresh Ultimatum to CBN over Naira Scarcity

NLC issues fresh Ultimatum to CBN over Naira Scarcity

NLC Issues Fresh Ultimatum To CBN Over Naira Scarcity, Vows to embark on Nationwide strike in 2 weeks

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened a nationwide demonstration in two weeks if the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) fails to find a permanent solution to cash shortage.

Joe Ajaero, president of the NLC, and Festus Osifo, president of the TUC, issued the warning at a joint press conference held at Labour House at the conclusion of their National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.

Read Also: NLC Postpones Proposed Strike, see details

The congress announced last week that it would begin an indefinite strike and picket all Central Bank of Nigeria branches across the country.

In an effort to avert the impending crisis, however, the head of the central bank, Godwin Emefiele, urged the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, to persuade the labour leaders.

Ajaero, however, stated that after receiving briefings from its state councils in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the NLC decided to defer the picketing directive issued last week to workers.

According to reports from its state councils, the cash shortage was easing.

The labour leader told reporters that the NLC would resume the planned demonstration if Nigerians were unable to obtain naira notes by the end of the two-week period.

According to him, committees had been established at both the national and state levels to monitor the situation in the banks and provide a report at the conclusion of the two-week deadline.

He stated, “Yes, there has been compliance, but the NLC’s NEC meeting cast doubt on the compliance’s viability.

“We must monitor this compliance for the next two weeks to determine if it is sustainable, as they rushed to transfer funds to commercial banks, and some of them are now running dry.” It would be extremely naive for Congress to abruptly cancel the action.

Also Read: PDP Crisis: Ayu heads to Court to reclaim National Chair position

“We will want to loosen up for an additional two weeks with committees established at the national level and in all the federated states to coordinate compliance. There were some banks that were closed on weekends. We recommend that the CBN assume the role of regulator. They can impose sanctions on banks that do not comply.

“On the first and second day, the CBN stated that the money they were pushing weekly was now being pushed daily. I am unaware if they continue to promote it daily. They have restricted the banking industry. So many Nigerians have suffered. Even those who withdrew N10,000 are hesitant to spend it in the event that the scarcity returns.

“The NLC and TUC have decided to let tomorrow pass without a strike or picketing, but will monitor the next two weeks.”

“Two weeks from today, the NEC of the two Labour centres will reconvene and determine if the CBN has actually complied and if their compliance is sufficient to drive the economy.”

On his part, the president of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) guaranteed that Labour would continue to protect the interests of workers and Nigerians.

Osifo stated that the two Labour centres would continue to urge banks to make naira notes accessible to Nigerians for an additional two weeks.

He stated, “We’ve decided to continue this push for another two weeks. Various state reports indicated a degree of compliance, although some banks remained closed on weekends.

“We urge the CBN to continue this action because the amount of money Nigerians need now would be even greater if this panic had not occurred, as the average Nigerian will withdraw funds and spend them gradually.

Because confidence in the system has been eroded, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) must inject more money into the economy.

He stated that Ayu would contest the suspension in court.

Sunday, the Igorov ward executive committee in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State suspended Ayu for alleged anti-party activities and nonpayment of membership fees.

In response to a lawsuit filed by Conrad Utaan, a former aide to the state’s governor, the Benue State court prohibited Ayu from representing himself as the party’s chairman after he was suspended.

The first and second respondents were listed as Ayu and the PDP, respectively.

The hearing has been postponed until April 17th.

In response to a question from The Ejes Gist News Nigeria, his Special Assistant on Communication confirmed that his boss intended to challenge the court order legally.

Imobo-tswam simply responded “yes” when asked if his embattled boss would challenge the court order prohibiting him from acting as the national chairman of the PDP. He did not entertain any further questions.

He added, however, that the PDP “has said everything about the issue. Therefore, there is no need to elaborate.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to ask you for the cooperation we all used to have with you. I will have a meeting with the NWC (National Working Committee) immediately following this session to discuss the current state of the party.

On Tuesday, PDP members from Ayu’s Igyorev ward demonstrated at the party headquarters in support of him.

They voiced their support for the suspended chairman and subsequently passed a vote of confidence in him.

A ward executive member, Stephen Shimahile, addressed the media and stated, “We categorically disclaim and disassociate ourselves from the purported letter of vote of no confidence and suspension of Senator Iyorchial Ayu as a member of PDP in Igyorov Council Ward of the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State dated the 24th day of March 2023.”

“The executive committee members have never discussed the conduct of the national chairman in accordance with chapter 10 section 57 of the party’s Constitution 2017 as amended in any of our meetings prior to or after the 2023 general election.

“The executive committee members have stated unequivocally that they have no knowledge of the letter and have not authorised anyone to create such a malicious letter on their behalf.”

Simon Ekpa Declares Sit-at-Home In Lagos

Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed disciple of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has asked indigenes of Southeast Nigeria who are residents in Lagos to observe a sit-at-home exercise over an alleged attack on them.

Ekpa rose to prominence in July 2021, after he was announced as the lead broadcaster of Radio Biafra.

But shortly after his appointment, IPOB announced his disengagement because of his refusal to sign the rules of engagement in the operation of the radio station.

However, the Finland-based Nigerian has repeatedly pledged allegiance to Kanu and support for Biafra agitation, despite leading a faction of the IPOB called “Autopilots”.

He was recently arrested and released in Finland.

According to Ekpa in a tweet on Tuesday, the sit-at-home exercise is targeted at crippling the economy of the Lagos state government.

He said, “I have just watched another Igbo Biafra Market in Lagos being burnt down in Balogun Lagos today, and I am very sad. Since after the election, Igbo Biafrans in Lagos and their Businesses has been attacked and like i have said earlier, we cant sit back and watch.

“As Biafrans in Lagos will be getting ready to return home with their businesses. To this end, we will activate sit-at-home for all Biafrans in Lagos.

“This sit at home is targeted at crippling the economy of the Lagos state government, whose body language has suggested to be directly responsible for the attack against Igbos.

“I therefore call on all Igbo market leaders in Lagos that we are ready to provide securities for all Igbo markets in Lagos pending when the businesses will be moved to Eastern region.

“We will fortify all your market against attackers. The underground work will start immediately” -ESN

“This sit-at-home, when activated is applicable to every Biafran doing Business in Lagos. Both shop owners, commercial bus drivers etc.”

Kogi vs EFCC: Court adjourns ruling on asset forfeiture to April 20

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday fixed April 20, 2023, to rule on a Kogi State application seeking to vacate an interim court order freezing 14 properties linked to the Kogi State governor.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo fixed the date after taking submissions from the governor’s counsel, Mr. Abdulwahab Mohammed SAN, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission counsel, Mr. Rotimi Oyedopo SAN.

The court had, on February 22, issued an interim forfeiture order following an ex parte motion to confiscate 14 properties and firms in Lagos, Abuja, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as N400 million recovered from one Aminu Falala.

When the matter came up on Tuesday, the Kogi state counsel told the court that he had an application dated March 9, 2023, seeking to vacate the order of the court made on February 22.

Mohammed, while moving the application, stated that about the third quarter of 2021, the EFCC approached the court to freeze Kogi State’s N20 billion salary bailout loan that was allegedly hidden in Sterling Bank.

He said that when the Kogi State government called Sterling Bank, the bank denied that such an account existed and that they challenged the freezing order made by Justice Tijjani Ringim, saying that the order was obtained illegally.

Mohammed further stated that the EFCC, instead of apologising, sent a press release stating that the money had been returned to the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to him, the Kogi State Government approached the state high court, presided over by the present Chief Judge Justice Majebi, who granted an order restraining the EFCC from having anything to do with Kogi State until the substantive matter was determined.

He argued that the order of the Kogi State High Court restraining the EFCC from taking any step against the Kogi State Government was still in effect.

“The EFCC, in flagrant disregard of the said order of the Kogi State High Court and her pending appeal at the Court of Appeal Abuja Judicial Division, arrested one Ali Bello Nephew of the Applicant herein, who is an associate of the Kogi State Government, on the 29th of November, 2022.

“That the EFCC, in flagrant disobedience of the subsisting order of the High Court of Kogi State, interrogated the said Alli Bello and coerced him to oblige them with information pertaining to most of the properties listed in the order of this honourable court made on the 22nd of February, 2023.

“That the said Ali Bello, aggrieved by his illegal arrest and forced interrogation, filed a fundamental rights enforcement application at the High Court of Kogi State, Lokoja Judicial Division, against the EFCC in Suit No. HCL/696″/2022: Ali Bello V. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) & Anor.

“That the High Court of Kogi State in a judgement delivered on the 12th day of January, 2023, granted all the reliefs sought by the Applicant and made an order declaring his arrest, detention, and interrogation illegal and unconstitutional and further ordering a perpetual injunction restraining the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, their agents, servants, privies, or howsoever called, from further arrest, detention, harassment, and intimidation of the said Ali Bello, nephew of the Applicant herein, and The Judgement of the High Court of Kogi State delivered on January 12, 2022, is herewith attached and marked “EXHIBIT D.”

“That the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in continuous disobedience of the extant Orders of Court barring it from inviting or doing anything with respect to the affairs of the Kogi State Government and its officials, brought the instant application for preservation orders of properties they alleged are reasonably suspected to have been derived from unlawful activity stemming from the purported misappropriation of funds belonging to the Kogi State Government.

“That the application filed by the EFCC on February 20, 2023, upon which this Honourable Court made the order dated February 22, 2023, and sought to be vacated herein, is a continuous disobedience of subsisting orders of courts of coordinate jurisdiction that had restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from doing anything with respect to the affairs of the applicant, including the employees, appointees, or associates of Kogi State Government,” he said.

In his response, Oyedepo said that the applicant had brought nothing before the court to convince it to vacate the order.

He urged the court to dismiss the application of the applicant seeking to vacate the order earlier made by the court.
