Kano Airport Cleaner Promoted, Rewarded for Returning $10,000 Found in Aircraft.
Auwal Ahmad Dankode, an employee of Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO), has been honored for his remarkable honesty after returning $10,000 (approximately N16 million) found while cleaning an aircraft. The money, which belonged to a passenger on seat No 25H, was discovered in the MS878 aircraft operated by Egypt Air in Kano.

Dankode, who became a viral sensation for his integrity, returned the cash to the airline’s station manager, prompting a significant recognition from his employer. In response to his actions, NAHCO’s GMD/CEO, Mr. Indranil Gupta, awarded Dankode with a letter of commendation, a promotion, and a cash gift. Gupta praised Dankode’s conduct as a model of integrity and honesty.
The reward ceremony took place at NAHCO’s headquarters at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, and Dankode’s story was highlighted on X (formerly Twitter) by the company. His honest deed also garnered praise from Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.

Dankode explained his decision to return the money, stating he was raised with principles of honesty and respect for others’ belongings. Despite some online skepticism, he remained steadfast in his belief that taking what doesn’t belong to him was wrong.
