The disciplinary actions were revealed on Sunday, November 10, by JSC spokesperson Baba Ibrahim. According to Ibrahim, these decisions were made after a thorough investigation into various breaches of professional conduct.
Magistrate Nasir Ado was dismissed for failing to record court proceedings during sessions, a violation the commission deemed a serious breach of duty. The commission, following the JPCC’s recommendation, declared Ado’s actions as gross misconduct, resulting in his removal from the judicial service.
Similarly, Sharia court judge Yusuf Kawu was dismissed for improperly releasing a convicted criminal, bypassing the required procedures for such actions.
In addition to the dismissals, the JSC imposed suspensions and issued warnings to other staff. Magistrates Sanusi Atana and Alkali Abubakar Abdullahi received official warnings for exceeding their legal authority, with the JSC noting that such actions could lead to confusion and unjust decisions, undermining the judicial process.
Other non-judicial staff also faced penalties. Finance Registrar Salisu Nayola was forced into early retirement after being accused of soliciting bribes, while court messenger Shuaibu Bello received a four-month suspension without pay for engaging in corrupt practices.
