Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally accepted the peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu to quell the ongoing political crisis within the state.

This announcement came during the governor’s Christmas broadcast to the entire state, marking his first address since assuming office.

Governor Fubara, recognizing the gravity of the political discord, drew poignant parallels between the humble circumstances of Jesus Christ’s birth and the virtues of simplicity, humility, and forgiveness.

Urging Rivers residents to embrace these values during the festive season, he emphasized his administration’s commitment to continuity and consolidation despite recent turbulence.

Acknowledging the mixed reactions to the peace deal, Governor Fubara assured the public that, after careful consideration, he found the terms “not as bad as it is being portrayed.” Emphasizing his belief in the pact’s potential to restore peace without compromising democratic values, he expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers and President Tinubu for their support.

Governor Fubara’s Statement Reads:

“Mr. President’s Peace Proclamation has naturally elicited mixed reactions from our people and across the country. While most stakeholders have violently condemned it, a few others have applauded it.”

“As a principal participant in the entire saga, I have taken some time to study the terms therein and have concluded that the Peace Pact is not as bad as it is being portrayed by those genuinely opposed to it. It is certainly not a death sentence. It offers some way towards a lasting peace and stability in our dear State,” he continued.

Governor Fubara went on to confirm positive steps taken towards implementing the deal, including the withdrawal of impeachment proceedings against him and the release of withheld allowances for lawmakers.

Stressing his unwavering commitment to peace, he declared, “There is no price too much to pay,” underscoring the priority of peace over conflict in the interest of the state and its people.
