… I will not give my liver or kidney to anybody in the name of loyalty.

The latest news in Nigeria now, is that the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has responded sharply to accusations made by his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Fubara declared on Sunday that while he stands for what is right, his loyalty has limits, asserting he would not “give his liver or kidney to anybodyin the name of loyalty.

This remark, delivered during an Inter-denominational Church Thanksgiving Service in Port Harcourt as part of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration, is widely seen as a direct rebuttal to Wike’s recent statements. Wike had accused Fubara of turning against him and others who supported his election after he became governor.

Fubara, however, remained adamant about his stance. “I belong to that school of thought that if I am the only person that needs to stand on that side of right, I will stand there,” he said. “I cannot give my kidney or liver to anybody. I won’t. If that is the only reason for me to be loyal, I will not be.”

The governor also refuted Wike’s claim that he was behind an alleged attempt to bomb the venue of a civic reception held in honor of the minister by the Rivers Ijaw People’s Council in Port Harcourt. Fubara firmly denied the accusation, stating that he had never instructed any security agency to engage in illegal activities.

Defending His Administration

Fubara took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of his administration, countering claims that he had done little for Rivers State. He pointed to several projects, including the N200 billion Port Harcourt Ring Road, the N225 billion Trans-Kalabari Road, and the construction of a General Hospital that includes a psychiatric wing. The governor also remarked that those criticizing his efforts might soon require psychiatric care themselves.

“It is this same Fubara that is building a General Hospital, which I also included a Psychiatric Hospital because they will need it very soon,” Fubara quipped. He went on to claim that his administration had accomplished more in one year than Wike’s did in eight, adding, “It is only an empty container that makes noise.”

Subtle Jabs and Political Allegiances

Fubara also took a veiled shot at Wike’s continued public outcry, describing noise-making as a sign of lost relevance. “Anybody that is making noise for recognition, it is a sign that he has lost it,” he remarked.

Despite the ongoing tension, Fubara affirmed his commitment to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and stressed the importance of peaceful elections. He concluded by reiterating his administration’s focus on the welfare of Rivers State citizens, promising to continue initiatives aimed at improving the state’s infrastructure and economic standing.

As the feud between the governor and his predecessor escalates, Rivers State remains a focal point in Nigerian politics, with both leaders maintaining their positions on loyalty, governance, and development.
