Ocean Surge: Delta Lawmaker Seeks Urgent Assistance for Affected Communities.

The Deputy Chief Whip of the Delta State House of Assembly (DSHA), Hon. Fred Martins, has urgently called for assistance in response to the devastating impact of a recent ocean surge affecting parts of his constituency.

The affected communities, including Ogheye-Eghoroke and Ogheye-Dimigun, among others along the Benin River in the Warri North Local Government Area, have suffered significant damage due to heavy flooding linked to the surge.

Martins, who represents Warri North in the House, made this appeal during a visit to inspect the extent of the damage inflicted upon the local inhabitants. He urged the federal government and relevant agencies to provide immediate relief materials for the displaced families in these communities.

In addition, he advocated for the construction of shoreline protection to prevent future occurrences, emphasizing the need for a permanent solution to the ongoing problem.

The lawmaker expressed gratitude to the Delta State government for its swift response, as demonstrated by the visit to assess the damage caused by the sea surge. As the Chairman of the House Committee on Lands, Survey, and Urban Development, Martins also called on multinational corporations and oil companies operating in the area to support the affected communities rather than neglect them.

The State Commissioner for the Bureau for Special Duties, Etacherure Terry, conveyed the government’s sympathy for the affected individuals, stressing that the suffering of any Deltan is a concern for the Delta State government.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau for Special Duties, Prince Greg Ejohwomu, he assured that measures would be implemented to alleviate the hardships caused by the ocean surge, following the directives of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
