Background of the Dispute

The Nigeria Labour Congress had declared a nationwide indefinite strike starting from June 2, 2024, in response to the government’s initial refusal to increase the proposed minimum wage above ₦60,000. This strike aimed to pressurise the government into meeting the demands of the workers for a more substantial wage increase, considering the rising cost of living and economic challenges.

This agreement marks a crucial step towards resolving the conflict and improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.
