Ogun State Government Asks Job Seekers To Pay N10,000 For Application Form.
The Ogun State government, led by Dapo Abiodun has mandated job seekers to pay a fee of N10,000 for an application form, a move that has sparked concerns among the populace. This directive was detailed in a memo seen by SaharaReporters and signed by the Permanent Secretary Commission, Jacobs R.O, on behalf of the Ogun State Civil Service Commission.
The memo clearly stated, “Applicants are to obtain tellers from Room A261 at the Civil Service Commission for application form on payment of a non-refundable fee of ten thousand Naira (N10,000) per candidate.” It further instructed that all application forms and accompanying credentials should be submitted to the office of the Director, Appointment and Transfer, located in Block A, Room A233 at the State Secretariat Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

This is not an unprecedented measure by the state government. In 2021, it was reported that applicants seeking positions within the state’s fire service were similarly required to pay a N10,000 fee for the application form. During that period, Governor Dapo Abiodun had sanctioned the recruitment of qualified candidates for the roles of Fire Officer II, GL.08, Higher Fire Superintendent GL.08, and Medical Officer II, GL.12.
A press release at that time, signed by the then Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Kolawole Ogunlana, outlined the procedure for the recruitment process. It was stated that candidates would undergo a written examination through the Public Service Competitive Entrance Examination, scheduled for December 6, 2021, at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Candidates were directed to source for tellers from Room A261 of the Civil Service Commission and to pay the non-refundable payment of N10,000, with forms to be returned by November 26, 2021.
The repetitive demands made of job applicants to pay for application forms have received varied reactions. Whereas some have said that it is a way of managing the numbers of applicants and ensuring that there is seriousness among them, others feel that this is one avenue set to hit an unemployed citizen financially badly in need of a public service appointment.
