JUST IN: Crisis Breaks Out in Cross River APC as 35 Chapter Chairmen, Secretaries Demand Alphonsus Eba’s Resignation

…..“very stupid people” —Eba fires back at aggrieved chairmen

A major crisis has broken out within the Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as 35 chapter chairmen and secretaries have demanded the immediate resignation of the State Chairman, Barr. Alphonsus Eba, over allegations of financial misconduct and divisive leadership.

The demand was contained in a communiqué signed by the officials at the end of their meeting held Tuesday in Calabar under the umbrella of the Forum of APC Chapter Chairmen and Secretaries.

Reading the communiqué, Forum Chairman, Chief Kelvin Njong, said Eba’s “high-handedness, insolence, underrating attitude, and transactional approach to party administration” were destabilizing the party. He accused the chairman of instigating conflicts between ward officials and their chapter leadership.

According to the communiqué, Eba’s actions have “generated hatred, contempt, ridicule and disrepute” toward the party’s leadership at the local government level—conduct they say violates Section 21:2 (ii & v) of the APC Constitution (as amended in March 2022).

    Financial Mismanagement Alleged

The forum further accused Eba of refusing to remit funds meant for local government and ward structures from the sale of nomination and delegate forms during the 2023 general elections.

“While the local government areas and wards, comprising 5,778 party officials, received only ₦9.2 million, the state executive with just 36 members took ₦40 million,” the communiqué alleged.

“This is gross injustice and typical of the chairman. We also have other sundry remittances from the National Secretariat that are unaccounted for.”

Following the allegations, the forum demanded Eba’s resignation and the immediate payment of outstanding stipends owed to ward and local government officials.

    Forum Recommends New Funding Structure

To prevent future financial disputes, the forum proposed that all stipends due to local government and ward officials be deducted at source and paid directly through chapter chairmen.

They also recommended a new sharing formula for party revenue—70 percent to the local government/ward officials and 30 percent to the state executive.

“Eba should also be mandated to pay our outstanding percentage from the sales of delegates and nomination forms for the 2023 elections,” the forum stated, insisting the chairman’s removal was necessary “in the overall interest of the unity and progress of the party.”

The communiqué was signed by 18 chapter chairmen and 17 secretaries, though the forum comprises 18 chairmen and 18 secretaries.

    Forum Leaders Speak

Comrade Odama Thomas Odama, Bekwarra Chapter Chairman and Head of Operations of the Forum, said the communiqué “captures the true reflection of the state of our party.”

Similarly, Forum Secretary William Book said the move was not a witch-hunt but an effort to restore order.

“It is out of place for the party chairman to withhold dues meant for party officials. We met with him several times on these lingering issues, but he refused to address them. Thus, this call for his resignation.”

    Eba Fires Back

Reacting in a telephone interview, State Chairman Alphonsus Eba dismissed the group’s allegations and described the aggrieved officials as “very stupid people.”

He said the revolt was a backlash from officials resisting efforts to instill discipline.

“You know, when you are trying to make sure that things work very well, people resort to calling you names. I have grown beyond that,” he said.

Eba alleged that some party officials had been diverting stipends meant for their colleagues at ward levels. He claimed he discovered the misappropriation after issuing a payment template that was allegedly ignored.

“They defaulted in following that template and only for me to discover that each of those people has been embezzling small stipends that should go to their own colleagues,” he said.

Eba insisted the rebellion “cannot distract us because we are focused and determined to instill discipline in the party.”

    Support for Tinubu, Otu Maintained

Despite the internal conflict, the forum reaffirmed its commitment to the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in 2027.

A former Minister of Interior, Lt Gen Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd), on Monday, decried the high level of insecurity in Northern Nigeria, saying it has reached a level where bandits and insurgents have taken over some communities, tax and make laws for them.

The retired Chief of Army Staff at the First Media and Security Summit held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, with the theme ‘Existential Threats and National Security’, said the insecurity issue in the North has existed for over two decades.

“People were killed in Katsina, Borno, Zamfara and Kano mosques. The North has suffered from herders/farmers clash, terrorism and banditry.

“We have gotten to a situation where bandits and insurgents have taken some of our communities, taxing and making laws for them.

“Thousands have been killed and millions displaced. The number of widows and orphans has increased, and farmers have lost farms and herders’ cattle rustled without action from state actors,” he said.

He urged northern governors to establish the Ministry of Mineral Resources and liaise with relevant federal agencies to harness their natural resources, improve their revenue base to end poverty in their respective states and reduce the level of insecurity.

Also, he said, to address the spate of killings occasioned by insecurity in the North, the respective state government must restore the dignity of the traditional institution, improve agriculture, which the North is known for, address the issue of out-of-school children and embrace social inclusion.

“Over 70 per cent of those suffering from poverty occasioned by insecurity are from the North. Religious extremism is a major threat to security in northern Nigeria and has led groups like Boko Haram, Lakurawa terrorists and bandits to unleash violence on the people,” he said.

Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, said security is everybody’s responsibility, adding that, “We need to come together to talk with each other on how to solve this problem.

“We were not like this before, Nigeria was not what it is today. We can solve the problem by coming together and having understanding, and going ahead to implement the decision we reached to have peace.”

In his contribution, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State said the North needs to come together to end the insecurity facing it.

“Insecurity in the North West is worrisome. The summit should look at the root cause of it, it may be due to climate change and other issues.

In his own submission, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi stated that the summit would provide the opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the North and find solutions to them.

Discipline Oyo Judge Who Allowed PDP Convention To Proceed — Wike’s Camp Begs NJC

Discipline Oyo Judge Who Allowed PDP Convention To Proceed — Wike’s Camp Begs NJC

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Nyesom Wike have petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC), demanding urgent disciplinary action against Justice A.L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court over what it described as “acts of judicial recklessness, impunity, and gross misconduct.”

In a petition dated November 5, 2025, and acknowledged by the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria on November 6, party stakeholders, including Hon. Austine Nwachukwu, Hon. Amah Abraham Nnanna, and Turnah Alabh George, called on the NJC to probe the judge’s conduct in a recent ex parte order issued on November 4.

Justice Akintola, according to the petitioners, had granted an ex parte order permitting the PDP to hold its national convention in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, an order the petitioners believed directly contradicts a subsisting judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The Abuja court, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025, delivered on October 31, had expressly restrained the PDP from conducting the convention on the same dates.

The petitioners described Justice Akintola’s decision as “a brazen violation of judicial hierarchy,” arguing that he effectively sat on appeal over the judgment of a court of coordinate jurisdiction—an action they warned could erode public confidence in the judiciary.

“This disturbing development not only undermines the sanctity of the rule of law but also threatens the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary,” the petition reads in part.

“If left unchecked, it could set a dangerous precedent where judicial officers become instruments of political expediency rather than impartial arbiters of justice.”

They urged the NJC to act with the same swiftness it demonstrated in similar cases involving judicial misconduct in Rivers and Imo States, stressing that prompt intervention was necessary to restore public faith in the judiciary.

“The NJC must reaffirm its commitment to discipline and impartiality by ensuring that errant judicial officers are held accountable without delay,” the petitioners stated.

Reiterating their confidence in the Chief Justice of Nigeria’s leadership, they maintained that “the judiciary must remain the last hope of the common man, not a willing tool for those seeking to subvert justice.”

The petitioners expressed hope that the NJC would treat the matter with urgency to reinforce the principle that “no one—no matter how highly placed—is above the law.”

In other news, Justice Ladiran Akintola on Monday again adjourned the hearing of a Motion on Notice in the suit filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its Acting National Chairman, and other respondents.

The case, which has garnered political attention ahead of the party’s National Convention, will now proceed on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, following the court’s decision to allow all parties additional time to file and exchange necessary documents.

Justice Akintola, after listening to submissions from counsels representing both sides, stressed the importance of properly filing all relevant documents before substantive proceedings could begin

Trump’s military action threat: details of Sultan and Tinubu meeting emerge

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has revealed key details of the recent closed-door meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.

The meeting, held on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, came just days after President Tinubu also met with the Archbishop of Abuja, Bishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama.

According to the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, the engagements are part of ongoing consultations with religious and traditional leaders to promote dialogue and strengthen social cohesion nationwide.

The discussions also followed recent comments by United States President Donald Trump, who threatened action against Nigeria over alleged attacks on Christians.

Responding to a question from The Guardian after addressing journalists in Abuja on Sunday regarding Trump’s remarks, NSCIA Secretary-General, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said the Sultan used the opportunity to convey the “feelings and anxieties” of Nigerian Muslims to President Tinubu.

Oloyede said concerns raised by the Muslim community over perceived marginalisation were directly presented during the meeting.

He recalled that at the last NSCIA General Purpose Committee (GPC) meeting, one of the resolutions was to seek an audience with the President to discuss pressing concerns affecting Muslims.

“One of the resolutions taken by the GPC was that we should book an appointment to discuss with the President of Nigeria. At the meeting today, the report was given since our President-General had met with Mr. President,” Oloyede said.

“He told us clearly that he conveyed the feelings of the Muslims, and we have no reason to doubt him.”

According to Oloyede, President Tinubu assured the Sultan that Muslims would not be sidelined in governance or national policymaking.

“Mr. President assured him that Muslims are not going to be marginalised; we are not going to be ‘designated’, and that he should reassure the Muslim community that there is no plan to encroach on our rights and privileges,” he added.

Nine days ago, the United States redesignated Nigeria as a country of particular concern after President Donald Trump expressed concern that Christianity faces an existential threat in the West African nation, with a lot of Christians being killed.

The redesignation came after a wave of campaign by American and European far-right politicians and commentators that claimed that there was Christian genocide in Nigeria.

Trump said that he is focused on changing the situation in Nigeria.

“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN” — But that is the least of it,” Trump said on Friday.

But the Nigerian government has insisted that Christians are not being singled out for attacks while also acknowledging that it has security challenges.

  • If Tinubu Government Can Arrest Gumi, Nigeria’s Insecurity Will End in a Week — El-Buba

If Tinubu Government Can Arrest Gumi, Nigeria’s Insecurity Will End in a Week — El-Buba

The General Overseer of El-Buba Outreach Ministries International, Prophet Isa El-Buba, has claimed that Nigeria’s lingering insecurity could be resolved within a week if the government arrests controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.

Speaking in an interview with News Central TV, El-Buba alleged that Gumi’s relationship with bandit groups makes him a key figure in the country’s security crisis.

“Sheikh Gumi met with them some time ago. But when he started meeting with the bandits, you could listen to what he has been saying,” El-Buba stated.

“These are people that have killed tens of thousands of people, and you (Gumi) are telling us to negotiate with them. He’s one of the people that, if the government picks him up, in less than one week, the Nigerian government will deal with this matter.”

El-Buba also accused the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) of complicity in the northern insecurity, claiming the group exerts significant control over the activities of armed herders and bandits.

“The Miyetti Allah group is complicit in the insecurity matter in the North. They control 80% of what is going on,” he alleged.

The cleric described statements from Miyetti Allah and related groups as threats to national peace, citing past remarks allegedly made by their leaders suggesting that Nigeria would not know peace until their demands were met.

El-Buba’s comments come amid growing public frustration over the federal government’s inability to end banditry, kidnappings, and terrorist attacks across several northern states

Ali Modu Sheriff Speaks on accusing VP Shettima of creating Boko Haram

Ali Modu Sheriff, former governor of Borno state, has denied claims that he accused Vice-President Kashim Shettima of creating Boko Haram, describing the report as “false, malicious, and dangerous”.

A publication circulating online had quoted Sheriff as saying, “It’s not me; it’s Shettima who created Boko Haram.”

Checks by Ejegist show that the report was first published in August 2016.

But in a statement issued on Saturday, Sheriff dismissed the report as a “complete fabrication” aimed at misleading the public and stirring political discord.

“The said story is a complete fabrication, devoid of truth, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, malign the person of Senator Sheriff, and sow discord within the nation’s political landscape,” the statement reads.

Sheriff said he never granted any interview or spoke to any journalist on the matter, adding that the falsehood was designed to undermine his long-standing commitment to peace and national unity.

“This false report is not only mischievous but also a dangerous piece of fake news aimed at undermining years of Senator Sheriff’s contributions to peace, national unity, and development, both in Borno State and across Nigeria,” the statement added.

The former governor urged members of the public and the media to disregard the publication, noting that he had directed his legal team to identify and pursue those behind the story.

“Senator Sheriff has instructed his legal team to take immediate steps to identify all individuals, bloggers, or media outlets responsible for the dissemination of this defamatory material,” his media office said.

“Should the false publication not be retracted and taken down forthwith, the Senator will not hesitate to seek full legal redress under the law.”

Sheriff reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s security, stability, and democratic values and vowed to ensure that the spread of misinformation does not go unpunished.

  • PFN President Bishop Wale Oke Declares “Christian Genocide” in Nigeria

PFN President Bishop Wale Oke Declares “Christian Genocide” in Nigeria

Renewed Alarm Over Attacks on Christian Communities

During a media briefing in Ibadan, Oyo State, the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, expressed grave concern over the continuous killings of Christians in several parts of the country.
He stated emphatically that “there is Christian genocide in Nigeria,” challenging the Federal Government to recognise the seriousness of the situation and act swiftly to protect the faithful.

The PFN President said the patience of the Nigerian church is being stretched, warning that continued silence from the government could deepen frustration among Christian communities already feeling marginalised and insecure.

    Bishop Oke’s Remarks in Detail

Bishop Oke outlined a series of incidents he described as targeted attacks against Christians, referencing cases such as the abduction of Leah Sharibu, the Owo church massacre, and other deadly assaults on worshippers.
He clarified, however, that his statement was not directed at the entire Muslim population but specifically at extremist groups who, in his words, “cloak their attacks in religious motives.”

According to him, “No Christian group is attacking Muslims. The patience of the church is being stretched. The government must act now to ensure justice and fairness for all citizens.”
He further urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to engage with international allies, particularly the United States, to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against religiously motivated violence.

    Understanding the Broader Context

Nigeria’s security challenges are complex, involving terrorism, banditry, communal clashes, and economic dislocation.
While faith-based tensions sometimes appear in these conflicts, security analysts note that many attacks affecting Christian communities also impact Muslims in nearby areas, suggesting the violence often stems from criminal and political factors rather than purely religious motivations.

Nevertheless, Bishop Oke insisted that Christians have disproportionately suffered in recent years and that national leaders must acknowledge this pattern to design effective protection measures.

    Security and Government Response

As of the time of this report, the Federal Government has not issued an official response to Bishop Oke’s statement.
However, senior officials within the Ministry of Information and the Defence Headquarters have repeatedly maintained that Nigeria’s security agencies are operating nationwide against all forms of terrorism and violent extremism, regardless of ethnic or religious identity.

Government representatives have also stressed that existing counter-terrorism strategies target armed groups without discriminating between communities or faiths.

Implications for National Policy and Church-State Relations

Bishop Oke’s public declaration may intensify national debate on how Nigeria classifies and responds to religiously related violence.
His remarks could encourage the PFN and other faith-based organisations to demand greater transparency from government agencies regarding data on attacks, arrests, and prosecutions linked to religiously motivated crimes.

Some policy analysts believe his call for international cooperation might prompt broader engagement between Nigeria and foreign partners on protecting freedom of religion, human rights, and community security.

Religious Leaders Urge Calm and Unity

Several interfaith leaders, including Muslim clerics and ecumenical councils, have since appealed for restraint, dialogue, and collaboration between both major faiths to avoid worsening the country’s fragile peace.
They emphasised that violent extremism threatens all Nigerians, regardless of belief, and that joint community action remains the most effective tool against insecurity.

    Historical Background

Nigeria has experienced recurrent episodes of sectarian violence dating back several decades.

From the Jos crisis in Plateau State to more recent attacks in Southern Kaduna, both Christians and Muslims have been victims of reprisal assaults and extremist insurgency.

The PFN, as one of the country’s largest Christian coalitions, has consistently campaigned for government accountability, equitable protection, and justice for affected families.

Bishop Oke’s current outcry follows a pattern of renewed advocacy by Christian leaders seeking stronger national dialogue on faith-based inclusion, constitutional rights, and citizenship equality.
