The Ekiti Patriotic Consultative Forum, a socio-political pressure group, has approached the State High Court for an order of Mandamus, compelling the state government to release to it, all documents, including financial records and loans, relating to the Ekiti Cargo Airport project.
Our State Correspondent reports that Lead solicitor to the group, Oluwagbenga Babawibe, who doubles as the Secretary to the forum, made this known in a statement, including court processes, made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday.
He said the request was made, pursuant to the provisions of the Ekiti State Freedom of Information Law, 2011.
Babawibe said his law firm, Urban Attorneys & Solicitors, acting for the forum, had since Nov. 22, 2023, made the written request to the government, through the offices of Secretary to the State Government, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, as well the State Accountant General, for the said documents, and that the receipt of the letter, was acknowledged on 11th Dec 2023 by the Accountant General’s office, but without any action.
He said when the letter was written in 2023, the group had given a seven-day ultimatum, within which the request should be accessed, and also warned then, that failure to act on it, would force the group into approaching the court to compel the government to act.
He, however, regretted that up till now, despite all the threats, no response had been received from the government, hence the decision to resort to the court, to force the government to act on the said request.
According to him, the documents being demanded include; a certified true copy of the entire contract, including information on the loans obtained for the said project, and information on all funds, disbursed on the project so far, from the treasury of the state.
He said the state government signed the said contract with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Limited, CCECCL.
Babawibe said the motion – exparte from the request for the order of Mandamus, was filed before the State High Court on 28th March 2024, in suit No- HAD//352m/2024, between the group and the government.
He said both the state governor, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as well as the Accountant General of the state, are defendants in the Mandamus suit, instituted, but no date had been fixed for a hearing yet.
Also, in an affidavit, in support of the said motion exparte, Tope Kolawole, also a legal practitioner in the same law firm, the Ekiti Patriotic Consultative Forum, is comprised of highly responsible Ekiti indigenes, who are always working towards the development and growth of Ekiti.
He said the latest action by the group became necessary, for want of probity, accountability, and effective management of public funds.
He noted that the group, which has the right to know how public funds are spent, had no option but to apply for leave of the court, to file for the said order of mandamus, after all, subtle means of getting the relevant documents, failed to yield results.
DAILY POST recalls that It has been over two years since the Ekiti Cargo International Airport was commissioned, amidst pomp and ceremony in Ado-Ekiti.
However, some concerned groups and individuals alike in the state had been expressing worry that since its commissioning, not a single commercial aircraft had been recorded at the airport.
On October 15, 2022, about a day before his exit from office, the then outgoing governor Dr Kayode Fayemi, whose administration, initiated the project, inaugurated the airport to the excitement of the people of the state, though there were still insider reports of some critical areas that needed to be completed, hence, the continuation of works on the project by the current administration of Gov. Biodun Oyebanji, till date.
During the historic occasion of commissioning, a military aircraft, marked ATR-42, belonging to the Nigerian Air Force, touched down at the airport on the day, to the excitement of many residents.
Speaking then, the delighted Fayemi had said the commissioning of the airport project, which started in 2019, was his parting gift to the people of the state, aimed at enhancing its development and growth.

Speaking in an audio message making the rounds on X, Wunmi said only her late husband has the right to request a DNA test from her.
She claimed that Mohbad disvirgined her and he is the only man she has ever known.
Wunmi said: “Mohbad disvirgined me; nobody has the right to tell me to do a DNA test. I have never slept with any man except him. I will never do any DNA; no one can tell me to do DNA except I wish to. Koni daa fun gbogbo yin ranting about DNA.”
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has unveiled the fees for Nigerians seeking to modify data on their National Identification Number (NIN). You can modify your date of birth, name, address, email, and phone number on the NIMC SELF-SERVICE APP. What are you waiting for???”
This move by NIMC aims to streamline the process of updating NIN details and reduce the burden on individuals seeking to make corrections. With the introduction of the mobile app, Nigerians can now conveniently modify their NIN data without the need for physical visits to enrollment centers.

In a dramatic turn of events, the Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, threatening to resume impeachment proceedings if he continues to violate the constitution.

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has said he was like a prophet he warned about the $350 million World Bank loan request by ex-governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Sani said despite his warning, people refused to listen..
Addressing journalists on Sunday, Sani said the state won’t be in such a situation if El-Rufai’s administration had heeded his warning.
He said: “The hour of reckoning has come for every citizen of the state,” Sani said, reacting to the current fiscal challenges in Kaduna.
“I was insulted for saying no to that loan. The hour of reckoning is here for every person in Kaduna state.
“Just like the way Lot (in the Bible) warned people, prophets of the past warned people, but they refused to hear and then you see petition and affliction.
“In the same way, I warned the people of this state, but they were told that the money will bring paradise — land of milk and honey.
“Today, you can see the problems at hand as far as that loan was concerned.
“Today the state is strangulated because of that money which we couldn’t pay.
“We borrowed $350 million when the naira was N400 to the dollar and we are going to pay when the naira is what it is today,” he added.
Last week, governor Uba Sani has raised an alarm over the state’s huge debt profile running into billions of dollars.
In 2018, Sani and two other senators from Kaduna state — Suleiman Hunkuyi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Kaduna north senatorial zone; and Danjuma Laah of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kaduna south-central senatorial zone — rejected moves by El-Rufai to take a $350 million World Bank loan.
Sani and Hunkuyi eventually lost their bids for re-election and were replaced by Uba Sani and Suleiman Kwari who lobbied for the approval of the loan.

Tension as Soldier Fatally Stabs Trader in Ondo: Police Respond.
Panic and chaos erupted at the bustling Arakale Market in Akure, the capital of Ondo state, following the tragic death of a 27-year-old trader, Ezeani Ebuka. Reports indicate that an unidentified soldier allegedly stabbed Ebuka to death during a heated argument.
The incident, which occurred amidst a dispute over services rendered by the trader, sparked outrage among fellow traders, leading to a protest that disrupted vehicular movement in the area. Police intervention was required to restore order and clear the roads for traffic.
According to eyewitnesses, the altercation escalated when the soldier demanded a refund for unsatisfactory service, ultimately resulting in the fatal stabbing of the trader.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo state police spokesperson, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, assured the public that the police are collaborating with military authorities to apprehend the perpetrator(s) responsible for the tragic loss of life.
This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the need for peaceful conflict resolution and the avoidance of violence in our communities.

Maryam Suleiman (Mai Rusau), the women leader of the Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been suspended for criticising Governor Uba Sani after he disclosed that he inherited a huge debt from his successor, Nasir ElRufai.
Speaking at a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, the governor lamented the huge debt inherited from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Sani said his administration inherited a total of $587 million, N85 billion and 115 contractual liabilities from the ex-governor.
“Despite the huge debt burden of $587m , N85bn, and N115bn Contractual Liabilities sadly inherited from the previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development. We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly,” the governor added.
However, in a viral video in Hausa, the APC women leader berated the governor over his remarks on the debt burden inherited from El-Rufai’s administration.
She accused the governor of treachery and betrayal, saying that El-Rufai did everything to ensure his success during the election.
Suleiman further accused Sani of mismanagement and admonished him to refrain from attributing his failures to El-Rufai. “If you say there is no money in Kaduna State, why don’t you resign? Notwithstanding the huge debt burden, he ran from pillar to post trying to get the party’s governorship ticket from Mallam [El-Rufai]. It is a clear case of betrayal. Mallam did everything for Uba to become a senator and later governor,” she said.
The party in a letter co-signed by the state chairman and secretary, Ali Maishago and Zakka Bassahuwa respectively, suspended the woman leader, citing allegations of gross misconduct.
In a suspension notice dated March 31, 2024, the party asserted that the women leader had been suspended over purported actions that tarnished the governor’s reputation.
The suspension letter further alleged that Suleiman had been involved in orchestrating an attack on the governor’s political adviser, Manzo Maigari, which was purportedly carried out by thugs.
Citing a violation of Article 21, 2 (v) of the APC constitution, the party stated that Suleiman’s suspension would remain indefinite pending a thorough investigation into the allegations. “The Badarawa/Malali Ward APC Executive Committee after due deliberations and careful examinations on the viral video clip released on 30th March, 2024 via social networks; Facebook, Whatsapp, and Tiktok which is against the constitution of our dear party APC as stated in article 21.2 (v)” the letter reads.
“In view of the above, below are the gross misconducts where the subsequent suspension relied upon:
“Deformation (sic) of character of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State Malam Uba Sani.
“Unauthorized publicity of the party dispute that discredited the personality of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State.
“Furthermore, from today Sunday 31st of March, 2024, the leadership of APC Badarawa/Malali Ward unanimously resolved to suspend Hajiya Maryam Suleiman (Mai Rusau) from the Party pending the further investigation on the matter from the constituted authority.”
A group of armed bandits reportedly intercepted a luxury bus heading to Abakaliki over the weekend, robbed all passengers, and then set the vehicle on fire.
The State Command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday morning, stating that the passengers were en route to the southeast for Easter festivities at the time of the attack.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the occurrence in a statement, stating that it took place at Oke Ado junction in Ijebu Mushin along the Ijebu Ode-Ore-Benin expressway, where the armed bandits burned down a luxury Mercedes-Benz bus.
She added, “The vehicle was coming from Maza Maza before it encountered the hoodlums. No reference to guns was made. They carried cutlasses.”
It was reported that the audacious robbers had previously robbed all 59 passengers on the bus and then locked the vehicle before setting it on fire.
However, the passengers were able to break the windows and escape from the bus before it was fully engulfed in flames.
Vanguard quoted Ifesinachi Transport Nig. Ltd. to have confirmed the attack, stating that the bus belonged to the company and had departed from Maza Maza, Lagos, on Good Friday, heading to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The management expressed shock over the incident.
In a distressing video viral on social media platforms, particularly on X, one of the survivors, Chude Nnamdi, recounted the harrowing experience, saying: “Ifesinachi Motors, we were travelling in the night to come back to the East for Easter celebration, and criminals attacked us in Ijebu Ode along the Ore/Benin expressway.”
The victims described how the bandits, armed and menacing, seized their belongings and subjected them to a terrifying ordeal. “They robbed us of everything we had; some they stripped half-naked.
Another survivor who spoke to the news platform said: “They locked us inside the 59-seat luxury bus and set it ablaze.
We thank God that we later escaped; nobody died, but everything we had was collected.
“We thank God that we didn’t lose anyone, but we lost everything we were travelling with and some sustained injuries.
“The armed robbers attacked us at Ijebu Ode. They stripped us of our dresses and belongings and beat us mercilessly. They forced us back into the bus and set it ablaze.
But we are grateful to God that nobody was burnt to death because we all managed to escape from the burning vehicle alive.
Though some of us sustained injuries, and we all lost our belongings because the robbers took everything with them, including the clothes some of us were wearing. We have been stranded here since 2 a.m. on Saturday morning: men, women, and children who are innocently travelling to the east to celebrate Easter.”

Three suspects, Mohammed Abdullahi Chumo, Aliyu Salihu and Arzika Ahmadu, have been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for rustling 132 rams in Mashegu Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who made this known in a statement on Saturday, March 30, 2024, said the suspects confessed to having conspired and rustled the animals from two owners.
“On 14/03/2024 at about 0900hrs, based on information received, Police operatives attached to Zungeru Div with vigilante members arrested the following suspects; Mohammed Abdullahi Chumo 30yrs of Ukoro, Kwara State, Aliyu Salihu 20yrs of Gwadabawa, Sokoto State and Arzika Ahmadu 25yrs of the same address,” the statement read.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to having conspired and rustled 132 rams from two victims who were grazing the rams around Manigi area of Mashegu LGA.
“Fortunately, one of the victims sighted a member of the gang, Chumo at Zungeru Market with six of the rams in an attempt to sell them, the victim raised an alarm, the suspect was arrested and led the Police team to Jimi village where other rams were kept, while Aliyu and Arzika were also arrested.
“The suspects have been transferred to the Crack squad unit for discrete investigation and diligent prosecution, as the rams were released to the rightful owner.”

The BBJ 737, designated as the Nigerian Air Force One, is exclusively used by the President, serving both as an office and a residence in the air to facilitate efficient functioning during trips.
Additionally, one of the helicopters is utilized for shuttles on domestic trips.
In October 2016, efforts to sell a Dassault Falcon 7x and a Beechcraft Hawker 4000 were unsuccessful. The initial agreement to purchase the two aircraft for $24 million was later reduced to $11 million by the preferred bidders, a proposal the Muhammadu Buhari government declined.
Over N80 billion has been allocated to the PAF for maintenance costs across several years: N3.65 billion in 2016, N4.37 billion in 2017, N7.26 billion in 2018, N7.30 billion in 2019, N6.79 billion in 2020, N12.55 billion in 2021, N12.48 billion in 2022, and approximately N25.7 billion in 2023, consisting of N13 billion in the budget and an additional N12.7 billion in the supplementary budget.
President Tinubu has expressed concerns over the escalating maintenance costs, prompting the decision to downsize the fleet. According to a source in conversation with The Nation, the President’s discomfort with these rising expenses has led to the earmarking of three aircraft for disposal, primarily to mitigate the financial burden.
Furthermore, the source highlighted the importance of the fleet for connecting to various African countries, where commercial flights may be less frequent. The control of the fleet’s use lies with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to ensure efficient management.
An investigation by The Nation revealed that the presidency might have spent over $5 million on maintenance in recent months, though the exact figure of outstanding financial commitments remains undisclosed.

The Nigerian stock market gained 39.8 per in the first quarter of 2024, becoming the second best-performing stock amid economic headwinds.
This is according to March ending data by NGX.
With the feat, NGX became the second best-performing stock after the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) All Share Index, which had about 314.19 per cent Year-to-date growth.
Specifically, the NGX ASI, an indicator used to measure the performance of listed firms on the exchange, opened the year at 74,773.77 basis points, implying an increase of 39.84 per cent, to close on March 28, 2024, at 104,562.06 basis points.
In the period under review, the NGX Alternative Securities Market (ASeM) Index gained 135.25 per cent YtD to emerge as the best-performing index, followed by the NGX Industrial Goods Index, which rose by 78.49 per cent YtD to close Q1, 2024 at 4,28441.20 basis points.
The NGX Banking and NGX Insurance Index appreciated by 14.76 per cent and 26.20 per cent YTD, respectively. The NGX Consumer Goods Index also rose by 43.66 per cent YtD to close on March 28, 2024, at 1,610.80 basis points.
Meanwhile, market capitalisation stood at N59.12 trillion at the end of March, representing an increase of N18.2 trillion or 44.49 per cent from N40.918 trillion it opened for trading this year.
First Lady, Sen Remi Tinubu has assured Nigerians that her husband, President Bola Tinubu would do all it takes to make the country better.

American Church Witnesses Easter Trailer Fire Filled with Bibles
Authorities in a Tennessee community, United States, are investigating after a trailer full of Bibles was intentionally set alight in front of a church on Easter Sunday.
Officials have reported no injuries following the incident.
The Mount Juliet Police and Fire Departments swiftly responded to a trailer fire located at an intersection, blocking the entrance to the Global Vision Church around 6 a.m. on Sunday.
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office also issued a statement indicating its belief that the fire was set intentionally. It remains unclear whether the fire was aimed specifically at the church.
“To maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide further details at this time. Rest assured, we will share updates with the community as and when appropriate,” stated the sheriff’s office.
Meanwhile, the church’s pastor, Greg Locke, revealed in a statement on Facebook that the church’s security cameras captured a man allegedly leaving the trailer before setting it on fire.
“A lady had driven through the night to reach our church and was in the parking lot. She managed to quickly alert the police officers, presenting quite the scene to wake up to on my first morning back from Israel,” Pastor Locke wrote.
Hundreds have also shown their support for the church on social media, which proceeded with its Easter services uninterrupted.
“The evil out there is frightening. I’m so thankful no one was harmed and no damage was done to the church. May our Lord touch the heart of the person responsible,” one user commented.
“God has the next move. Jesus is alive and working wonders. Prayers for the man responsible and for the church. Onward Christian Soldiers,” another user commented.
