BUA Group Chairman Rejects Tinubu’s Appointment, Gives Reasons

BUA Group Chairman has Declined his appointment.

Following recent reports about the appointment of Mr Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Standing Committee on Finance by Bola Tinubu, an official statement has been released. This statement clarifies Mr Rabiu’s position and unequivocally declines the nomination.

The statement, released by Tim Sogbeinde, Head of Creatives & Visual Identity Management at BUA Group, expressed gratitude to the APC for considering Mr Rabiu for the prestigious position. It acknowledged the recognition of both Mr Rabiu and BUA Group’s unwavering commitment to national economic prosperity and development.

However, the statement underscored the enduring apolitical stance that Abdul Samad Rabiu and BUA Group have consistently maintained over the years. This stance, integral to their business operations, reflects Mr Rabiu’s dedication to driving economic growth through BUA Group initiatives and philanthropic efforts, notably via ASR Africa.

Addressing the reasons behind declining the nomination, the statement clarified that Mr Rabiu had not been consulted about his inclusion in the committee. It cited his demanding schedule, deeming it impractical to commit the necessary time to the role.

The statement emphasized Mr Rabiu’s belief in leveraging business acumen and philanthropy for development and positive societal change independently of political participation. It outlined his commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s progress primarily through strategic investments in the economy and philanthropy, rather than through political roles or affiliations.

While reiterating Mr Rabiu’s dedication to supporting governmental policies that foster development, the statement concluded, “We trust this statement provides clarity on the matter and reaffirms our chairman’s dedication to Nigeria’s progress in the roles he is most suited for—those of an entrepreneur, businessman, and philanthropist.

  • CBN Issues New Order to Banks, Wallets on BVN, NIN: What Does It Mean for Nigerians?

CBN Issues New Order to Banks, Wallets on BVN, NIN: What Does It Mean for Nigerians?

Banks Anticipate Rush as CBN Enforces BVN and NIN Requirements.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed commercial banks to impose a “post no debit” restriction on accounts without Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) and National Identity Numbers (NIN) starting from March 2024. This directive marks a crucial step in strengthening the ‘Know Your Customer‘ procedures across financial institutions.

The apex bank has ordered electronic revalidation of BVN and NIN linked to accounts and wallets, with a deadline set for January 31, 2024. This directive is expected to lead to a rush among account holders to comply with the requirements, creating potential challenges for both banks and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) offices.

Bankers acknowledge that the rush to regularize accounts will likely strain resources and put pressure on employees, particularly as the banking industry has faced challenges such as staff rationalization and the departure of key personnel. While some industry experts believe the directive will sanitize the sector, concerns about its potential impact on naira scarcity and operational stress within banks have been raised.

The ‘Post No Debit’ restriction is a measure that freezes funds in specific accounts, preventing customers from making withdrawals, transfers, or debits during the restriction period. The CBN’s circular, jointly signed by the Directors of Payments System Management and Financial Policy and Regulation, emphasizes the mandatory registration of all Tier-1, 2, and 3 bank accounts and wallets with BVN or NIN.

The CBN’s comprehensive directive encompasses electronic retrieval of BVN or NIN-related information for new customer onboarding, with unfunded accounts/wallets facing restrictions until compliance is achieved. Existing accounts without BVN or NIN face restrictions from March 1, 2024, and all attached BVN or NIN must be electronically revalidated by January 31, 2024.

While some industry insiders anticipate challenges such as a potential rush, extended working hours, and increased pressure on bank employees, others express confidence in technology’s ability to streamline compliance processes. The directive is seen as a proactive measure by the CBN to address vulnerabilities and enhance the integrity of the banking sector.

In response to the directive, banks are expected to conduct a comprehensive BVN and NIN audit, applying strict compliance measures with sanctions for identified breaches. The directive aligns with the CBN’s earlier initiatives to clean up the sector and reduce fraud incidents, reinforcing the importance of digital identification in the modern banking landscape.

As Nigerians grapple with the implications of this directive, experts emphasize the need for timely compliance to contribute to a more secure and efficient financial system. While acknowledging potential challenges, including the strain on resources and operational adjustments, the CBN’s move underscores the ongoing efforts to align the Nigerian banking sector with global best practices in combating financial crimes and enhancing customer data integrity.

Uncertain Future for Renato Sanches as Roma’s Jose Mourinho Sends Warning Signals

AS Roma’s Jose Mourinho has dropped a cryptic hint aimed at certain players, with speculation rife that Renato Sanches is among the targets.

Sanches, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, arrived at Roma with high hopes of rediscovering his impressive form from his Lille OSC days. However, persistent injuries have thwarted his ability to secure a consistent spot on the field, leaving questions about the impact of this fresh start.

Jose Mourinho, without naming names, issued a stern warning to some players regarding their playing time, stating, “From now on, there will be people who will only go into the field when the others are dead.”

The Italian media has linked Housse Amouar, Zeki Çelik, and Sanches as potential targets of Mourinho’s remarks. The Portuguese manager’s comments imply a sense of dissatisfaction, suggesting that opportunities have been missed.

As the 2023-24 season progresses, Sanches faces a pivotal moment to salvage his standing at Roma.

The media is abuzz with speculation that unless there is a drastic improvement in his performance during the second half of the season, a long-term stay at Roma seems uncertain.

Adding to the suspense, the terms of Sanches’ loan agreement with Roma raise the stakes. Should he play in 55 percent of the team’s matches, Roma will be obligated to buy him for €11 million.

In a recent episode of the widely followed “Bad and Bougie Podcast,” Daniel Etim Effiong, a prominent Nigerian actor, engaged in a thought-provoking conversation with hosts Moet Abebe and Tolani Baj.

Responding to Moet Abebe’s inquiry about the noticeable gap between male and female actors when it comes to seeking public financial assistance, Daniel Etim delved into the complex interplay of societal norms and traditional expectations that shape these behaviors, particularly in Nigerian communities.

Effiong highlighted the enduring cultural norms that traditionally designate men as the primary financial providers not only for themselves but also for the women in their lives.

According to him, this ingrained expectation contributes to the more conspicuous nature of men seeking financial aid, while women, adhering to a subtler approach, may receive assistance more discreetly.

The actor underscored that, in the traditional Nigerian context, men tend to navigate their financial challenges quietly, prioritizing the well-being of their families.

This, he argued, leads to a scenario where men are more likely to seek public assistance, aligning with societal norms that perceive women financially supporting men as unconventional.

Jurgen Klopp Admits He Blocked Exit For Top Liverpool Player In Summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has divulged that he thwarted a potential summer loan exit for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to comply with squad registration regulations.

Kelleher, who has been with Liverpool for eight years and ascended through the academy ranks, earned his spot in the senior setup in 2019 and has since served as Klopp’s backup goalkeeper.

Despite being overshadowed by the formidable Alisson in the goalkeeping hierarchy, the 25-year-old Kelleher has seen action in only 27 club games throughout his senior career. Additionally, he boasts ten caps for the Republic of Ireland.

Eager for regular playing time, Kelleher expressed his willingness to embark on a loan spell this summer. However, Klopp intervened, citing Kelleher’s invaluable status as a homegrown player.

Jurgen Klopp explained, “We had discussions in the summer about [moving on], but as long as we don’t have a solution, we cannot loan players. He is homegrown, and the first responsibility is to do the best for Liverpool, and then we have to see how we can sort it.”

How to Secure a Lucrative PPA for NYSC | Step-by-Step Tips.

Are you in search of valuable tips on how to secure a lucrative Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) for your National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)? Look no further! This article is tailored to provide you with step-by-step guidance on landing the ideal PPA that aligns with your skills and career goals.

As many corps members serve across different states in the country, the responsibility of securing a PPA often falls on the individuals, especially for those who choose to move to different states after the initial three-week orientation camp. Let’s break down the process to make it easy to understand.

Understanding A Primary Place Of Assignment (PPA)

A Primary Place of Assignment, commonly known as PPA, is a company or organization where NYSC members are expected to fulfill specific obligations and responsibilities for a year. During this period, the organization treats the corps member as their staff, providing the same respect and benefits accorded to their regular employees. To confirm placement, the organization issues an acceptance letter, indicating approval from the federal government for the specified work period.

    Reasons for Seeking a PPA

While ideally, the federal government assigns PPAs, some corps members seek their own placements due to preferences or dissatisfaction with the initially assigned PPA. This may arise when the assigned role does not align with their skills and long-term goals, prompting them to actively search for a more suitable placement.

4 Tips for Finding a Suitable PPA

Utilize Online Platforms: Leverage platforms like social media to communicate your qualifications, services offered, and the specific field you wish to work in. Request retweets to expand your reach and increase the likelihood of connecting with the right audience.

Seek Recommendations: Inquire within your network, including friends and family, for potential opportunities. Recommendations from those familiar with your skills and aspirations can lead to valuable connections.

Use Specific Keywords in Job Searches: Some job boards and companies explicitly mention their need for NYSC members. Use relevant keywords like “National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)” to streamline your job search and discover roles tailored for corps members.

Consider Volunteering: If you come across an organization aligned with your goals, consider volunteering your time, skills, or services. This not only demonstrates your capabilities but also provides an opportunity to gain experience and expand your professional network.

In conclusion, securing a PPA for NYSC doesn’t have to be complex. Follow the steps of registration, selection, deployment, acceptance, and orientation to ensure a smooth NYSC experience.
