Niger coup: Tinubu pushing for war in order to suspend tribunal, stay in office – Ex APC publicity Secretary

Former APC Official Accuses President Tinubu of Plotting to Sabotage Presidential Election Tribunal.

In a startling revelation, Comrade Timi Frank, the former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is orchestrating a plan to disrupt the proceedings of the Presidential Election Tribunal (PET).

Frank claimed that Tinubu’s alleged actions are aimed at imposing a state of emergency in Nigeria under the pretext of unrest in neighboring Niger.

According to Frank’s statement released on Friday in Abuja, President Tinubu is exploiting his position as the ECOWAS chairman to secure validation for his contested electoral victory in Nigeria.

The former APC official asserted that Tinubu’s insistence on military action in Niger is a calculated move to bolster his own political standing, gain international recognition, and legitimize his administration.

“It is evident to perceptive observers that Tinubu is contemplating a scenario that might precipitate war in Niger. This, in turn, could furnish him with the pretext to impose a state of emergency within Nigeria, thus halting the ongoing sessions of the Presidential Election tribunal,” Frank stated.

Critically highlighting the lack of strong democratic practices in the region, Frank condemned the silence of ECOWAS Heads of States and Governments when presidents unlawfully seize electoral mandates and manipulate constitutional provisions to extend their tenures in office. He expressed concern over ECOWAS leaders only reacting to situations when a fellow president has been overthrown, like the recent coup in Niger.

While Frank voiced support for efforts to restore democratic governance in Niger, he firmly rejected any attempts by Tinubu to exploit the situation in Niger to undermine the ongoing court process meant to determine the true winner of Nigeria’s February 25th, 2023 Presidential election.

Flood: Delta govt begins opening of major canals in Warri, Uvwie others

In response to the warning issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) about the potential impact of an upcoming flood, the Delta State Government has begun the process of opening major canals in areas like Warri, Uvwie, Udu, Sapele, Ughelli, and other towns within the state.

This measure aims to facilitate the free flow of water into the rivers.

According to NIMET’s prediction, some coastal states in the federation are likely to experience severe flooding this year.

Frank Omare, the Director-General of Special Duties at the Government House in Asaba, oversaw the clearing of the canals.

This process began from Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area, extending down to Warri in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a conversation with journalists, Omare highlighted that the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is fully committed to taking all necessary actions to control flooding in the State.

He mentioned that next week, the government plans to initiate the demolition of all illegal structures obstructing waterways in the State.

He warned that no matter how influential someone may be, any appeals to stop the demolition exercise will not be heeded.

He emphasized that the government’s intention is not to target anyone unfairly.

“The ministry of urban renewal and the ministry of justice have personnel on the ground. If we discover that some of these buildings were actually approved, then we will refer them to Asaba for proper compensation. Our aim is to address this issue within the boundaries of the law.

“There is no need for anyone to be afraid. If you are aware that your building is situated on waterways, kindly take the necessary steps to remove it.

“We do not intend to unfairly single out anyone. The Urban and Regional Planning officials are currently inspecting the areas and will be responsible for marking buildings for demolition if required.”

We are committed to doing what is right and ensuring it is accomplished.

“We urge residents to take responsibility in their communities. If you notice someone constructing on top of the canals, please kindly inform them about the wrongness of their actions.

Our determination to create a better environment in Delta State is unwavering,” added Omare.

In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, Pete Edochie expressed his worry about the increasing number of women ending their marriages. He mentioned several actresses, including Chioma Chukwuka, Tonto Dikeh, and Ireti Doyle, whose unions had failed.

Popular Lawyer cautions Tinubu against ‘senseless war’ in Niger Republic

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against deploying the Nigerian military to intervene in the crisis in the Republic of Niger.

Tinubu had written a letter to the Nigerian Senate on Friday, requesting approval for military action and other sanctions against the military officers who took control in Niger.

On Saturday morning, via his Twitter handle, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, read the letter on the floor of the Upper Chamber.

However, Jibrin Samuel Okutepa expressed his concerns in a series of tweets, hoping that the National Assembly would not grant approval to Tinubu’s request for deploying the Nigerian military to Niger to engage in what he described as a ‘senseless war’ aimed at restoring a democratic government in that country.

“Nigerians are calling upon our security agencies, including the armed forces, to work towards restoring peace and security within the nation.”

Additionally, the Niger military junta severed diplomatic relations with Nigeria following the unsuccessful attempt by the ECOWAS envoy to mediate and broker peace.

Recently, Niger experienced a coup d’état as the military junta overthrew their democratically elected President, Mohamed Bazoum.

Tensions have been steadily escalating in the West African region.”

Why Bola Tinubu Removed Maryam Shetty as Minister and Those Behind It Emerge

Ministerial Nominee Replaced in Intriguing Power Play

In a surprising turn of events, the nomination of Maryam Shetty, a young and relatively unknown politician from Kano State, as a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s second batch of ministerial nominees, was shockingly withdrawn just hours before her screening. The development has sparked speculation and debate surrounding the intriguing power play that led to her replacement with Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, a former Commissioner for Higher Education in Kano State.

Maryam Shetty gained national prominence when her name was included in the list of 19 ministerial nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu. However, on Friday, the President informed the Senate of two additional ministerial nominees and the withdrawal of Maryam Shetty’s nomination. The sudden change left many Nigerians bewildered, especially after a video of her at the National Assembly for screening surfaced on social media just moments before the news of her replacement broke.

    Maryam Shetty Removal

Sources revealed that the immediate past governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who recently emerged as the new national chairman of the ruling APC, nominated Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure to replace Shetty. Ganduje’s associates disclosed that the power play that led to the substitution was due to Shetty’s perceived lack of affiliation with the former governor’s political family. It was suspected that her name was “smuggled” into the list by a senior member of the presidency.

Furthermore, it was learned that Ganduje was of the view that the ministerial slot that Shetty occupied should have gone to him, given his new position as the national chairman of the APC. The other nominee from Kano, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, had ties to President Tinubu from their days in the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Ganduje’s supporters believe that the nomination of Shetty without his endorsement was an error that needed to be corrected.Abdullahi Ganduje

The manner in which the replacement was communicated was seen as a message to those who allegedly manipulated Maryam Shetty’s inclusion in the list, indicating that President Tinubu was in charge and not pleased with such actions. It was also seen as a signal of the influence that Ganduje wields as the newly elected national chairman of the party.

Maryam Shetty Vocal against New APC National Chairman

Additionally, there were speculations that another reason for Shetty’s replacement was her vocal stance against some of Ganduje’s policies when he served as governor, including the controversial deposition of former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi. Her close association with Sanusi, as well as her active presence on social media advocating for various causes, reportedly did not sit well with some members of the Kano APC family.

    Maryam Shetty

The nomination of Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure was reportedly influenced by President Tinubu’s intention to include a certain number of females in his cabinet. Although Bunkure was not initially among the top contenders for the ministerial list, she got the nod at the last minute due to her gender, fulfilling President Tinubu’s target for female representation.

Social media was abuzz with reactions to the sudden turn of events, with many expressing sympathy for Shetty and criticizing the process that led to her withdrawal. Others commended her dedication and loyalty to the party. Nevertheless, the decision has been made, and Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure is now set to undergo the screening process as a ministerial nominee in President Tinubu’s cabinet.

The unfolding drama surrounding the ministerial nomination highlights the complexities of power dynamics in Nigerian politics and underscores the significance of alliances and affiliations in the selection process.

He made this directive during the Presidential Groundbreaking ceremony of the 350MW project, which serves as the initial phase of the larger 7,350MW Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant.

Tinubu emphasized the critical importance of the 350MW power plant for Nigeria’s economic development, considering it as his administration’s primary initiative to establish a robust power sector to drive the nation’s economy.

Tinubu stressed the importance of fulfilling a three-year project within the designated timeframe, expressing that Nigerians are closely observing and eagerly anticipating the fulfillment of all promises made.

Furthermore, Tinubu directed various entities, including the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Transmission Company of Nigeria, and Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, to collaborate with NNPCL to expedite the project’s completion.

The President assured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to enhancing their lives through these initiatives.

Tinubu emphasized that during his presidential campaign, he made a commitment to ensure stable electricity in Nigeria and pledged to eliminate all obstacles in power distribution.

He further highlighted that his administration’s prompt initiation of the project demonstrates their resolute dedication to bringing positive changes for Nigerians.

Additionally, he stated that the government is determined to alleviate power-related challenges in the country.

The CEO of NNPCL mentioned that Nigeria possesses significant natural gas resources, with over 209 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves and a potential reserve of over 600 trillion cubic feet.

He emphasized that as a commercial enterprise, NNPC views the project as an opportunity to leverage the abundant natural gas resources and increase access to energy.

This move aims to support economic growth, promote industrialization, and create job opportunities across the country.

To achieve this national objective, NNPC has heavily invested in expanding domestic gas infrastructure. This includes the implementation of projects such as the Trans-Nigeria Pipeline Project, which encompasses the Escravos to Lagos Pipeline System, the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben gas pipeline, and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, as stated by Kyari.

According to him, the power project represents a milestone in NNPCL’s efforts to fulfill its gas and power mandate, aiming to contribute five gigawatts to the national power generation by 2024.

At present, NNPC and its partners are providing approximately 800MW of electricity to the national grid from Afam VI and Okpai Phase 1 thermal power plants, with a combined installed capacity of 1,100MW.

The endeavor involves partnership with General Electric as the original equipment provider, and China Machinery and Engineering Corporation, responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction.”

“Northern Leaders Caution Tinubu Against Engaging in War with Niger”

The Arewa Consultative Forum, representing the Northern leadership, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against engaging in conflict with the Niger military junta.

Instead, they urged for a dialogue to address the matter.

The group believes that military intervention in the Niger Republic to remove the coup plotters might not ensure peace and stability in the ECOWAS sub-region.

ECOWAS instructed the closure of land and air borders among member states in response to the military coup in Niger, which ousted the democratically elected President, Mohamed Bazoum.

The ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Governments, presided over by Nigeria, further issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Niger military to reinstate the deposed President.

Additionally, Tinubu wrote to the Senate, proposing military intervention against the Niger military junta if they resist efforts to capture them and restore democracy in the ECOWAS nation.

According to the statement, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) expresses concern about the ongoing events in Nigeria’s neighboring country, the Republic of Niger, and the potential effects on the region.

The statement emphasizes that the actions being considered should have carefully considered the historical background and shared interests of both countries and thoroughly evaluated the repercussions of resorting to military force.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) acknowledges ECOWAS’ approach of applying pressure on the culprits, but it believes that military action should not be an obligatory condition for Nigeria and the region to promote democracy in the 21st century.

The ACF also pointed out that while military intervention might bring about a short-term resolution, it could have adverse consequences for Nigeria’s leadership role and the regional body in the long run.

ACF emphasizes its endorsement of the goal to reinstate democracy in Niger.

It urges the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to opt for dialogue and diplomacy rather than coercion in resolving the current crisis in Niger.

This approach is essential to foster peaceful coexistence with the neighboring country and ensure stability in the ECOWAS region, as stated in the statement.

FG Asks Over 500 Civil Service Directors and Others to Retire

About 512 directors in the Nigerian civil service will have been forced to retire due to the implementation of the newly revised Public Service Rules, 2021, by the Federal Government. The revised rules, which took effect from July 27, 2023, were launched by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation on July 28, 2023, in Abuja.

One of the major changes introduced by the new rules is a tenure policy for permanent secretaries. According to the policy, permanent secretaries are now required to spend four years in office, which is renewable subject to their performance.

Sources within the Federal civil service confirmed that the new rule is expected to affect as many as 512 directors who have been stagnant in their positions for eight years or more. The implementation of the revised Public Service Rules has already caused tension and agitation in the civil service.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, unveiled the revised rules during the civil service week, noting that the implementation would commence immediately. Yemi-Esan mentioned that the rules were revised under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari but were delayed until President Bola Tinubu took over in line with the ‘renewed hope’ agenda.

However, the implementation of the new PSR has been met with opposition from some public servants, who argue that it conflicts with the mandatory 60 years retirement age for civil servants, citing relevant sections of the rules. PSR 020908 states that the mandatory retirement age remains 60 years or 35 years of pensionable service, with exemptions for certain groups such as judicial officers and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

On the other hand, the revised PSR 020909 stipulates that directors or their equivalents in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) must compulsorily retire after serving eight years on the tenure policy post. Additionally, Permanent Secretaries are now required to hold office for a term of four years, with the possibility of renewal for another four years, subject to satisfactory performance.

The veteran actor revealed, “If you come to our industry today, most of our ladies who got married 2-3 years ago have all left their husbands. I was shocked that Chioma Chukwuka had left her husband, Ireti Doyle, Tonto Dikeh. You take a vow when you are going to get married for better or worse, not for better or out.
