    Presidency reveals those behind alleged ‘Stoning’ of Buhari’s Convoy in Kano

    The Nigerian Presidency has finally reacted to reports that President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy was stoned on Monday while he was on a state visit to Kano State.

    The report was labeled “false” and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was responsible for the “fake news,” according to a statement sent to newsmen on Tuesday and signed by Garba Shehu.

    We’ve seen false reports of a stone-throwing incident that happened in Kano’s Hotoro neighborhood on the day that President Muhammadu Buhari visited the city on Monday. This incident, even if it’s a minor one, should be denounced by all decent people.

    According to law enforcement, “facts on the ground speak of a clash between the local road transport authorities, the Kano Road Transport Authority, KAROTA, and thugs hired by a yet-to-be identified group that took place when the President was being treated to a banquet at the Government House, well after he had finished his projects commissioning.”

    The happy thing about it was that the good people of Kano State were appreciative of him for the progress the state and the nation at large are making under him.

    The President was in the state to work on the development, safety, and security of common citizens’ lives.

    “An opposition’s divisive rhetoric in a fruitless effort to damage the reputation of the President and the candidates of the All Progressives Congress in the coming elections, and its desperate wedge-driving activities to cause a division between the party and the government, are not what will give them victory,” the statement continued.

    According to the video, the stone-throwers who attacked the traffic police were supported by politicians and people who support terrorism. In a democracy, violence has no place.

    “The PDP should take advantage of the opportunity provided by electioneering to express their viewpoint in a democracy. Stone-pelting, setting things on fire, and other disruptive behavior are out of place when issues can be solved through negotiations, as we are seeing in some of the campaigns.

    Political, social, and religious leaders have a responsibility to correctly inform the misled youth to avoid the path of violence, which is harmful to their own future. This is because violence is unhealthy for society as a whole.

    “Last but not least, let me say that the President still commands and is respected in Kano.

    For those who hold the border closure against him, they must realize that if he had permitted the free-for-all smuggling to continue, there wouldn’t be the 60-70 integrated rice mills in the city today.

    In an interview with newsmen on Tuesday, Atiku stated that he would accept defeat in good faith if he lost the election for president.

    The former vice president continued by saying that he would neither be the first nor the last loser.

    “I will take it, it is my fate, I will take it in good faith, I am not the first loser, and I am not going to be the last,” Atiku said in the interview.

    Atiku claimed that despite an investigation into the corruption claims made against him, nothing had been found.

    Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has a new assertion to make regarding Aso Rock.

    He claimed that some “elements” in Aso Rock are working against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate.

    The governor said these people, whose identities he withheld, were resentful that Tinubu defeated their candidate in the APC presidential primaries while speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television breakfast show.

    He claimed that these forces were disguising themselves behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s desire to uphold morality.

    I think there are Villa factions that want us to lose the election because they weren’t able to have their candidate, he said. The primaries were not won by their candidate.

    They’re attempting to make us lose the election, and they’re hiding behind the president’s commitment to upholding moral principles. I’ll give you two examples. First, we all agreed that the petroleum subsidy, which is costing the nation trillions of Naira, would be eliminated.

    In fact, I explained to the president why it needed to be eliminated during our conversation. Because it is impossible to spend N2 trillion on petroleum subsidies while having a capital budget of N200 billion for federal roads. When the subsidy issue started to get worse in 2021, I had this conversation with the president. He was persuaded. We went. It evolved.

    IVD: Ebute Meta Court Remands Popular Car Dealer Over Wife’s Death

    A magistrate court in Ebute Meta remanded auto dealer Ikechukwu Daryl Ogbonna, also known as IVD, over the death of his wife, Abimbola Ogbonna.

    A Lagos court has mandated that auto dealer IVD be kept in custody in connection with the passing of his wife, Abimbola Martins-Ogbonna.

    IVD has been charged with involuntary manslaughter by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), and the Magistrate has mandated that the defendant be arraigned before the Lagos High Court.

    Despite the defense attorney’s request for IVD to be released based on prior bail requirements, Magistrate Adebayo Kafayat Tella ruled that she lacked jurisdiction to hear the involuntary manslaughter case and that all bail requests should be brought before the high court.

    She therefore set March 7, 2023 for the next hearing of the case.

    After a fight with IVD on October 15, 2022, a fire broke out in the couple’s home in Megamound Estate, Lekki, and Bimbo died as a result of her injuries.

    The 16-year-old marriage of the couple, who had five children together, was reportedly troubled by allegations of domestic abuse.

    According to information gathered by this online newspaper, the deceased confronted IVD about the abuse they had been subjected to repeatedly, which led to a fight that ended with their home being set on fire. While Bimbo suffered severe burns, IVD only suffered minor burns.

    IVD was detained by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba after being transferred from the Lagos State Police Command.

    Numerous people have expressed outrage over the situation and demanded justice for Bimbo.

    Subject to certain criteria,’ CBN sheds light on acceptance of old Naira notes after deadline.

     

    Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has had his stance on the demonetization of older banknotes clarified.

    Before the February 10 deadline for the Naira swap, Emefiele told the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on the naira swap that banks would continue to accept the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.

    He explained, “We are mandated to collect that money even after the old currency has lost its legal tender status, as stated in Section 20 Subsection 3 of the CBN Act 2007. The House of Representatives has my support, and so do I.”

    Governor Wike has directed all the LG Chairmen and PDP Caucus in Rivers State to work for Bola Tinubu.

     

     

    Ejesgist News reports that the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has declared his support for the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

     

    It would be recalled that Wike had said he will make his decision on who to support for presidency in January 2023.

    He has been called out severally in the month for not keeping to his word but his response has always been that he didn’t specify the date he will be making the announcement.

    For months now, there have been pointers that he would work for Peter Obi as his online media aides have been canvassing votes for Peter Obi until yesterday when they all suddenly started campaigning for Tinubu, just a day after Wike revealed that he will be naming his preferred choice.

     

     

    Also, in a video seen on twitter, the rivers state government has started mounting billboards for the APC Presidential candidate, recall that Wike noted that he will be going all out for his preferred choice.

     

     

     

     

    Furthermore, reports has it that Governor Wike held a meeting with local government chairmen in Rivers state yesterday and ordered them to work for the APC to ensure a 25% worth of votes.

    Tinubu has once again attacked President Bush over exchange rate.

    The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has criticised the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration over the depreciation of Nigeria’s currency, the Naira.

    Ejesgist News gathered that Tinubu made this condemnation at the party’s presidential campaign rally in Calabar, Cross River State, on Tuesday.

     

    According to the former Lagos State governor, when the government took over in 2015, the Naira/Dollar exchange rate was about N200 to a dollar, but it has depreciated to about N800 to the dollar on the parallel market.

    “Today, they moved the exchange rate from N200 to N800. If they had repaired it, if they had arrested this, we won’t be where we are today, we will be greater.

    Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for president in the 2023 election, has stated he does not travel abroad for medical treatment “other than routine medical checkups.”

    Atiku, 76, stated that he is willing to provide his medical records upon request from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in an interview with journalists that on Tuesday.

    TikTok Launches Nigerian General Elections Guide In-App

    As Nigeria prepares for its general elections on February 25, TikTok has introduced product features in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that support its long-term vision to assist Nigerians and other users around the world in accessing factual and reliable information about the Nigerian general elections.

    It collaborated on the project with Africa Check and the National Orientation Agency (NOA). The platform claims that these initiatives are a part of TikTok’s commitment to stop election misinformation and make sure that its community disseminates election news responsibly.

     

    1) Godwin Emefiele, governor of the central bank of Nigerians  have stated that persons who have old notes can still deposit them at commercial banks after the deadline of February 10.     5) The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, have claimed that Nnamdi Kanu, their leader, is dying and that his deteriorating health is real.     Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, former Kaduna Governor and one-time Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has said that the arrival of Labour Party is going to be a challenge to PDP in some States because the votes meant for PDP, will be given to LP.

    According to him, “In 2019, we didn’t have Labour Party, and to me, it’s a challenge to PDP in some states.

    Atiku Abubakar has confirmed that he is in talks with Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, adding that one of them will possibly join him in PDP.

     

     

    People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has said that he is in touch with the presidential candidate of New Nigerian People Party (NNPP) Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso for possible support.

     

    In an interview with BBC Hausa service, Atiku said he is also holding talks with the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.

    He said the duo of Obi and Kwankwaso are not in anyway a threat to his chances in the election.

     

    “I see no threat because we are not together with them (Kwankwaso and Obi). We are in talk with them, one of them may possibly come,” he said.

     

    On the lingering PDP Crisis, Atiku said, “Each party has its internal crisis, we are still talking with them. Most are neither in PDP nor in other parties and definitely that will not make us loose the election because we okay with the elections preparations for now.

     

    “Elections now is not like in the past when a governor will dictate who to vote for, elections today is in the hands of the voters.”

     

    The presidential candidate also promised to open all Nigeria’s borders if elected president.
