Kwankwaso under Pressure from Northern leaders to step down for Atiku
Before the 2018 general elections, some well-known Northern leaders and forces are taking action to make sure that the region presents a unified presidential candidate.
Separate interactions with insiders revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and former vice president Atiku Abubakar are the preferred candidates of several North African leaders.
According to a source who spoke to newsmen he stated that, “Our people have resolved to adopt a consensus candidate for 2023, and the person they have chosen is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate.”
The source, a senior member of the Northern Elders Forum, claimed that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former vice president and presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has been under pressure from Northern leaders to withdraw his candidacy.
“I can tell you that our leaders in the North have started taking steps to pressure Senator Kwankwaso to abandon his bid for the presidency in favour of Atiku Abubakar,” the source stated.
Findings within the Kwankwaso camp showed that the former governor of Kano State had resisted pressure and vowed to move forward with his campaign despite it.
According to a source within the NNPP, the former Kano governor “has been inundated with calls and visits from prominent leaders in the North to withdraw his bid for Waziri (Atiku’s traditional title), but he (the former Kano governor) has remained adamant.”
The source claims that Kwankwaso’s reluctance might not be unrelated to the events leading up to his exit from PDP, which those close to him claimed was quite unpleasant.
Due to the way some of Alhaji Atiku’s supporters treated him while he was there, it would be challenging for Madugu (Kwankwaso) to support the PDP, the source said.
“Such a possibility is very remote.” The insider responded, “I think even if he drops his bid, the only person Madugu would back is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” when pressed to be more specific about the possibilities available to the former minister.
Ibrahim Babandiga has brought PDP crisis to an end
The indications have emerged that former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) (rtd) appears to have brought the crisis rocking the People Democratic Party (PDP) to an end.
The parley which appeared to be fruitful saw the PDP G5 Governors, led by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike making fresh demands.
A party chieftain, who preferred anonymity, said the G5 has agreed to work for the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar if their fresh demands would be acceded to, Punchnewsngreports.
Their demands, according to the reliable source, are: “That the top government offices should be shared among the six geo-political zones; That the security chiefs should be shared among all the geo-political zones and that all the party’s offices in the South should move to the North and vice versa if Atiku wins”.
Recall that members of the PDP G5 Governors, led by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, have been at loggerheads with Atiku after Wike failed to win the party’s presidential ticket.
Other members of the G5 are Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
The G5 were also unhappy that Atiku rejected Wike as a running mate and are demanding the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as party Chairman, allegedly to reduce the dominance of the PDP by the North.
Drug Trafficking Allegations: We’re not ‘investigating’ Tinubu, says INEC
In response to allegations of drug trafficking levelled against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the ruling All Progressives Congress, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has denied authoring the statement.
Rotimi Oyekanmi, the INEC Chairman’s chief press secretary, informed our correspondent that the announcement was fake.
Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education Committee, was quoted in the aforementioned statement as saying that the commission was in contact with US authorities to learn more about the allegation in order to assess whether the APC standard bearer may have violated any pertinent electoral act 2022 provisions (as amended).
In a revised answer, Okoye urged the populace to disregard the false claim.
“A Press Release allegedly issued by the Commission has been trending online since yesterday, Friday, November 11, 2022,” he stated.
In order to determine whether there may have been a violation of our policies or the Electoral Act 2022, it is claimed that the Commission has opened an investigation into a case of criminal forfeiture against one of the Presidential candidates in the upcoming general election.
The Commission is also allegedly in contact with a court in the United States of America regarding this case.
INEC debunked Claims of investigating Tinubu
We want to be very clear that neither the Commission nor the aforementioned Press Release are taking the alleged course of action.
It is completely bogus and the product of troublemakers.
Press releases from the Commission are published on the INEC Press Corps platform, our website, and our official social media accounts at the same time.
The press release should be ignored, the public is advised.

After a phone fight with her fiancé, Adetutu reportedly got out of a car and dove into the lagoon.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the taxi driver said that she was engaged in a furious argument with her fiancé when she got out of the car and dove into the lagoon.
In order to find the victim, members of the Department of State Services, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, and LASWA are currently collaborating on the scene.
In a further confirmation on Friday, Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the search and rescue crew was still in the water looking for the victim.
Amodu Shakiri, the public education officer for the Lagos State Fire Service, claimed that the search had been unsuccessful since the Adetutu Adedokon’s body had not yet been located.
We continued search and rescue efforts today, but there is currently no progress, the man stated. As soon as we finish our operations, we will issue a formal declaration.
Gbenga Omotosho, the commissioner for information and strategy, also verified the news.
No advancement at this time, he said. The body of the victim has not been located.
The victim, known as Adetutu, was a Department of State Services employee, according to sources in the DSS office, who also said that Adetutu worked as an instructor of unarmed fighting.
Additionally, it was stated that she just got engaged.
Adetutu, who is in her late 30s, was reportedly recognised as the best unarmed combat operative in her set a few months ago in a letter of recognition from the director general of the DSS.
It was also said that the victim’s fiance had just just gotten engaged to her.
On Thursday afternoon, she had exited an Uber taxi on the bridge before diving into the lagoon.

Gunmen Attack Governor Charles Soludo’s Hometown on Saturday
Gunmen attacked the Isuofia community of Aguata Local Government Area, where the governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo hails from in the early hours of Saturday.
Sources said no fewer than two soldiers and four of the attacking hoodlums died in a fierce gun battle between the gunmen and soldiers stationed in the community. [Where is Governor Soludo from?]
According to a source, the hoodlums first attacked the soldiers at an army checkpoint and killed two of them before the army personnel gave them a chase and neutralised four of the assailants in the process.
Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, and the state’s Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, also confirmed the story in a statement.
Ikenga said Police operatives have been deployed to the scene, and that normalcy has been restored in the area, while Nwosu urged Indigenes to alert security officials when they notice security breaches.
Nwosu said: “A gang of gunmen struck the Nigerian Army checkpoint at Afor-Uzo Junction, Isuofia, this morning. Unfortunately for the hoodlums, they met their Waterloo.
“Our gallant and alert security agents who gave them a hot chase immediately returned fire and neutralised four of the gang members in a fierce exchange of shootings. Their Toyota Avenza with which they launched the deadly operation was recovered.”
He further added: “The government of Anambra State wishes to reassure the people of their safety, especially during this yuletide season. If you see something; please say something to help our vigilant security agents protect you better. “
You will see a very, very cohesive and strong PDP that will confront the elections because we think we can resolve this family dispute before the elections.
Remember how Atiku and five governors, including Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Nyesom Wike of Rivers and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia had been at logger head for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu?
Following Atiku’s selection as the party’s flagbearer, the governors had demanded the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, in order to zone the office to the south.

Charles Soludo has confirmed that the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi invested Anambra State money well, but subsequent administrations mismanaged the investment.
It is one thing to make an investment and another thing to manage the investment. For instance, I know a man whose father left hundreds of millions of Naira worth of investments for, but the young man squandered these investments and is looking worse than some of us who were not fortunate to get even a pin from our own fathers. That the man whom I will like to call Chukwuma squandered his father’s beautiful investments which included landed properties, shares, etc, doesn’t mean that the father made a bad investment, but it rather shows that the son, his successor was a bad manager, or even an ‘efulefu’.
While appearing on television this evening, the current governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, made a comment that is understood to be in reference to the multibillion Naira and multimillion Dollar investments and savings made by Mr. Peter Obi when he was governor of Anambra State. Governor Solido said that those investments are “now worth close to nothing”. This statement from Soludo is not an attack on Peter Obi but a validation of the Agulu-born multibillionaire’s prudence in the management of Anambra’s resources.
Soludo would have been called to question if he had claimed that Peter Obi didn’t make any investments. Peter Obi made good and well thought out investments, but, like some fortunate children whose parents bequeathed good fortunes to, Obi’s successor descended on this investment and made a mincemeat of it. He enjoyed himself with the piles of money he inherited and unlike most of his contemporaries who inherited State accounts in red, Obiano came upon billions of Naira in cash with no single debt to service. That would have been a solid ground to build upon and taken Anambra to greater heights, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
Those who are mischievous enough to blame Peter Obi for supporting Obiano as his successor are not being fair to themselves. Peter Obi is a human being, he couldn’t have had any talent for deconstructing the new fantasies of the man he partly groomed in the bank. Probably, because the man came about bad associations. Peter Obi also didn’t disturb his successor, he allowed him to run his government however he deemed fit.
I thank Governor Chukwuma Soludo for this affirmation and I urge Nigerians to vote for the man who will invest their money rightly and not the man who will squander it.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis appears to have been resolved after the party’s leadership reached an agreement with the PDP G5 governors.
Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State and a member of the PDP G5 Governors, has been at odds with Atiku since Wike was denied the party’s presidential candidacy.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State are the other PDP G5 Governors.
The G5 are also demanding Iyorchia Ayu’s resignation as party chairman in an effort to purportedly lessen the North’s dominance of the PDP.
They are also unhappy that Atiku rejected Wike as his running mate.
However, there are signs that the crisis shaking the main opposition party may have been resolved by former military ruler General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd).
The seemingly productive negotiations saw the G5 presenting new requests.
An unnamed party official said that the G5 had agreed to support Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, in exchange for giving in to their new demands.
The dependable source reports that their requests are as follows: “That the top government positions be distributed among the six geopolitical zones;
“That if Atiku wins, all party offices in the South should move to the North and vice versa, and that the security chiefs should be distributed among all the geopolitical zones.”
Although, at the time of filing in this report, PunchNewsng.com could not independently verify this information.

Governor Charles Soludo has reeled out reasons why the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) will not take the hard decision of supporting the former governor of the state, Peter Obi, in his presidential aspiration under the Labor Party (LP).
Soludo, who is the leader of APGA, said that supporting LP’s presidential candidate will ruin the chances of the party’s candidates at different levels of electioneering.
The governor spoke on the matter recently in Akwa through his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Dr Alex Obiogbolu.
“Today, APGA remains third largest political party in Nigeria. It is the third largest, considering the number of political offices it has won. APGA has a state governor, members of the national assembly, and members of the state assemblies.
“The vision of APGA for the 2023 general election is to expand its reach and spheres of influence. APGA does not consider the wave of the OBIdient Movement as a threat towards achieving its set goals in 2023. The Labour Party (LP) and the OBIdient Movement are offshoots of the PDP. Therefore, they pose a big threat to PDP – not APGA.
“We wish Peter Obi good luck, but no matter how much we wish him, everyone is aware that we also have our own Peter Umeadi, running for president under APGA. Even if APGA should adopt Obi as its presidential candidate, our votes alone cannot make president.
“What we actually want to send as message is that as APGA people, and as Igbo people, we want to prove that one who is rejected does not reject himself. We have seen that politically, the Southeast and Igbo people have been denied what ought to be ours by the major parties, especially the PDP founded by an Igbo man, Alex Ekwueme.
PDP’s zoning of presidency to north is big injustice, Soludo says
Speaking further, Soludo tackled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for giving its presidential candidate to another northerner. His words:
“PDP was founded in zoning, fairness and national patriotism. That was the reason why in 2019, the PDP ticket went to a northener, Atiku Abubakar, and Igbo people supported him; because they see PDP as a party that will protect their interest at the national level. Now that it is the turn of the Southeast to be rewarded, PDP threw the slot back to the north. That is a big injustice.
“Therefore, as a people, we are saying that 2023 is the time for us to recalibrate, and use APGA as a platform to fight for the emancipation of our people; because, we are not oblivious of the fact that since 1999, Igbo people have been taken for granted. And there is no better way to address the injustice than to rally round APGA.
“In 2023, we need to use APGA to send a message by ensuring that all the people that are going to represent us at the national assembly, both in Anambra and other parts of Southeast, are from the platform of APGA. Anything short of this does not represent the interest and aspiration of our people.”
Zanele Sifuba: Bayelsa State Governor Reacts to Fake News Allegations
Dr. Kola Oredipe, the governor of Bayelsa State’s director of new media, has refuted the claim that Governor Douye Diri is responsible for the media leak of a nude video of the speaker of the State assembly, Zanele Sifuba.
Dr. Oredipe stated that “Let it be understood without any ambiguity that Governor Diri does not know the alleged woman at the centre of the story and has had no communication with her or any other relationship with her.
Sifuba apparently refused to pay a blackmailer R300,000 earlier this week, which led to the disclosure of a violent video of her.
Dr. Oredipe reiterated in a statement released on Saturday that Gov. Diri has not visited South Africa in the previous ten years. The statement was sent to newsmen.
The message disclosed that the alleged account is false and was only created on Thursday, November 10, 2022, and called the popular South African s*x story a mere distraction.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fake news story circulating online about Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State over an alleged nude video leak of a South African female lawmaker, Zanele Sifuba,” the statement adds.
For a story that first surfaced in South African media on October 31 and was initially connected to a “Nigerian youth,” it is clear that those responsible for the new twist created the parody account with the specific goal to damage the Bayelsa Governor’s reputation.
“Unfortunately, a few Nigerian internet sites hastened to broadcast the false news from the ‘Zanele Sifuba Facebook’ account without verifying the absurd charge against the governor of Bayelsa state.
“While we have read of an alleged attempt to blackmail her for R300,000, Governor Diri is unquestionably not the ‘young blackmailer.
“Ask why a governor of an oil-rich state would turn to blackmail for just R300,000” (about N8 million). This is utterly absurd.
“It is obvious that political troublemakers have ramped up their efforts in an effort to damage the reputation of a diligent, collected, peaceful, and focused governor of Bayelsa State.
“This tale is just another futile attempt to divert the man who has spent the previous six weeks devoting his time and energy to managing the horrific flood that ravaged Bayelsa and who is single-minded on his developmental programme for his state.
“The public is therefore urged to disregard the report because it is unfounded and has nothing to do with the governor of Bayelsa.
“Let it be known that posting lie has repercussions. The anonymity of social media platforms should not be used as a cover for defamation and character assassination, as doing so could have serious legal repercussions.
Sadly, those portals that are disseminating this unsubstantiated content have fell for the trap and its consequences.

Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to the statements credited to him working with aggrieved PDP governors as against the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar
Punchnewsng.com gathered that the former president of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has severed ties with the PDP’s G-5 governors who are upset ahead of the 2023 general election in the hope that the party can work out its internal problems.
In response to a false rumor that has been going around that the PDP’s disgruntled governors are showing their loyalty to him, Jonathan claimed that he had meritoriously served the nation at both the state and federal levels, and that now that he has been out of office for almost eight years, Nigerians have come to love and trust him for who he is. Jonathan also claimed that while in office, he had no enemies to fight, and that he still doesn’t have any enemies
The ex president disclosed this through his Special Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, via a press statement on Friday.
The statement reads it part: “Our attention has been drawn to news media and social media reports linking former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s name to the current troubles in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with a false claim that the aggrieved PDP governors are demonstrating their loyalty to him.

“We would have ignored the strange tale since it is obviously baseless. However, we are offering this clarification because we have been reached by many Nigerians who are concerned that such fabrication with a vague and suspicious attribution could be given undeserved prominence on the frontpage of some national dailies.
“We are also not unmindful of the fact that, this being an electioneering season, bizarre tales are often contrived, propagated and weaponized to either smear others or deliver cheap political advantage to the purveyors.
First, we would like to make the point that it is not out of place if there were crises in a political party like the PDP and a former President who served under the party platform is called upon to intervene. That being the case, we initially did not see anything wrong with the headlines in some papers, indicating that the former President was being persuaded to help resolve the issues in the party.
“However, we are dismayed that the seemingly purpose-minded headlines were only cast to mask the mischief of the sponsors of the story and hoodwink the unsuspecting populace.
“Our attention was called to provocative and insulting statements in separate but similar versions of the story in different news media, either claiming that “the whole thing we are seeing in the PDP … is orchestrated for President Jonathan,” or that “he (Jonathan) is encouraging Governors Nyesom Wike, Makinde, Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi and Ortom to behave the way they are doing”, knowing that “these five governors are fighting his cause.”
We believe that such duplicitous statements could not have emanated from the camps of those who truly wish the party well. It simply shows that the so called ‘sources’ of the story are not disposed to the peace and unity they pretend to be seeking in the PDP.
“How could anybody turn around in 2022 to accuse Jonathan of bearing a grudge against the PDP when the former President had campaigned vigorously for the party and its Presidential candidate during the 2019 elections?
“Those who insinuate that Dr. Jonathan is not happy with the PDP’s Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, because of whatever roles he played ahead of the 2015 elections forget that the former President actively campaigned for Atiku in 2019, attending the flag off of his campaigns in Sokoto and subsequently participating in the campaigns in some states like Rivers and Bayelsa.
“The fact that Dr. Jonathan stood out as an exemplary politician who, throughout his political career, abhorred treachery and mean-mindedness, and played politics without bitterness, needs no gainsay. Unlike many of his detractors, the former President has, out of office, progressed to a higher level of statesmanship, faithfully applying himself to causes that promote peace, love, unity and progress, across the entire west African sub-region
It is Dr. Jonathan’s wish that the PDP is able to resolve its internal crisis, unite all members and have a good showing in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
“We wish to however point out that it will be difficult to achieve this aspiration if some forces in the party continue to engage in mudslinging, disinformation and manifest tendencies that negate the values that are dear to loyal party members.
“Former President Jonathan had served this country meritoriously at both the state and federal levels. He has now been out of office for almost eight years and Nigerians have come to trust and love him for who he is. While in office, he had no enemies to fight. He still has no enemies to fight, now that he has become a private citizen”.

The former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has made some comments regarding the conflict in the PDP.
He has been adamant that the five Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors who are currently embroiled in the conflict are not working for his cause.

The names of the five governors are as follows: Nyesom Wike (Rivers State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State).

Obaseki said the Edo government received notice 24 hours before the event, adding that the notice for approval arrived too late.
He disclosed this while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Friday.
Obaseki said, “Well, there are several venues in Benin for rallies, I heard that they [Labour Party] applied on Wednesday night to hold a rally at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Friday morning, giving us one day’s notice.
“The tracks in that stadium are still under warranty. The pitch has to be maintained in a certain mode. So it is not just another facility you just can go in and use without preparing. If they knew they had a rally on Friday morning, why could not they give more time and notice so we could give them the conditions under which they could use the pitch.”
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obaseki’s party, had used the stadium for a rally on October 22.
“The same thing we did to the PDP when they wanted to use the pitch. And the only reason why we allowed the PDP rally was because it was used as an opportunity to commission that facility. Otherwise, most other rallies are held in other large grounds around the city,” Obaseki added.
“I expected more from the Labour Party. I thought they were more serious, you cannot be planning for a rally on a Friday and be giving less than two days.
“I spoke to my friend Peter Obi the night before he told me he was coming to the state, and we offered him all the courtesy, including security and some logistics, but I did not know they were coming for rallies.
“For me, the issues did not even come to me. The people at the sports commission knew what to do, and they did it professionally.”
Atiku, Okowa, PDP Chieftain Visit Babangida in Minna
On Friday, the People’s Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, paid a visit to the hometown of the former military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, in the state of Niger. Minna is Babangida’s hometown.
Mr. Atiku has been quoted as saying, in a statement, that it is “always a delight to share time with General Ibrahim Babangida.”
In the midst of our efforts to pull Nigeria back from years of economic and security collapse, his advice and familiarity with our nation are invaluable assets.
In addition, Mr. Okowa expressed gratitude to General Babangida for “his wise counsel on our continued efforts to #RecoverNigeria for all Nigerians.”
In addition to other PDP chieftains, the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, and the governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, were both present at the meeting.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared on Friday that reports in some media outlets that it intends to rig the general elections of 2023 by forgoing the Registration Area Technical Support Staff’s (RATECHSS) direct and real-time electronic upload of Polling Units (Pus) results to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal are categorically false.
Festus Okoye, the INEC commissioner for information and voter education, reportedly said this in Abuja.
The commission has assured Nigerians time and time again that it will transmit results directly from the polling places, as was the case in the governorship elections for Ekiti and Osun States as well as 103 additional constituencies where bye-elections and off-cycle governorship/FCT Area Council elections were held since August 2020. The portal still offers access to the findings.
One of the innovations used by the Commission to guarantee the accuracy and legitimacy of election results in Nigeria is the IReV. Therefore, it is improbable that the Commission will reverse course and attack its own innovations.
