In a new attack on Magarya ward, Kadawa community, Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state, bandits killed no less than 57 people.
The raid, which lasted from Thursday evening to early Friday morning, exclusively harmed men, according to neighbours, who claim the robbers purposefully avoided harming women and children.
During the incident, numerous cows were also rumoured to have been rustled.
Following the incident in Kadawa, the bandits are claimed to have moved on to neighbouring villages such as Jinkirawa, stealing cows but not killing anyone.
Village shops were also robbed throughout the villages.
“For fear of another attack, we have all abandoned and fled our communities. We are unable to bury our loved ones in our neighbourhood.
One of the witnesses told The Nation, “We are carrying the corpses that were loaded in the security personnel’s trucks that are presently present to the emir’s palace in Zurmi.”
The location was alleged to have been visited by the Commissioner of Police.
Several calls to Zamfara Police spokesman Muhammad Shehu for confirmation of the incident were not returned.
He then stated that he would respond via SMS, but as of the time of filing this report, he had not done so.
