Governor Matawalle bars Zamfara Monarchs from awarding chieftaincy titles without approval
Traditional leaders in the state of Zamfara have been ordered by Governor Bello Matawalle to obtain consent before granting titles to anyone.
The instruction was stated in a statement issued on July 20 by Zailani Bappa, the governor’s press secretary.

The statement said;
Before bestowing traditional titles on anyone, all emirs, senior district heads, and district heads in the state are hereby ordered to formally get approval from the state government “.
“The instruction is required to prevent arbitrary awards and potential exploitation of the traditional institution,” “.
“From this moment forward, no Emir, Senior District Head, or District Head may appoint anyone to any traditional post without first obtaining formal approval and clearance from the state Government.

Compliance with this directive is now required, and doing so will result in a severe rebuke from the state government.
This follows a backlash that occurred when the renowned bandit Adamu Aleru was given a title by the Yandoto Emirate.
