2023 Polls: Buhari Assures Shettima of Winning 

 

President Muhammadu Buhari promised Kashim Shetima, the vice presidential candidate for the , on Wednesday that the party will win the elections in 2023, God willing.

President Buhari stated, “I will respond to your speech when I am passing over to you and your boss.

I am optimistic that the would win the election and succeed me next year. You’re going to triumph, God willing.

The President, who received the Vice President Candidate shortly after he was introduced by the Party’s leadership and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, struck a humorous note at the State House in response to Senator Shettima’s flowery speech.

He said he was pleased that the former governor of Borno State had been chosen as his running mate.

The President maintained unwavering confidence that the APC ticket would win in 2023.

The Vice Presidential Candidate thanked the President in his remarks for his “empathy, support, and positive role,” which helped him become the APC Presidential Candidate’s running mate.

He congratulated the President and said, “I can count 20-30 instances of help you have offered, for which you will be remembered. You have a particular space in your heart for Borno and Northeast.”

Words cannot express how grateful we are for your assistance, he said, mentioning the creation of the NEDC and the Independent Power Plant for Maiduguri by the NNPC, “after many years of darkness.” We will always be appreciative.

The former governor of Borno State asked the President to commend his successor, Babagana Zulum, who was in attendance with Mustapha Baba Shehuri, the minister of state for agriculture, for rebuffing “repeated mention” of him and pressure from his fellow governors to run for the vice presidential nomination.

The Candidate vowed to stay “faithful and devoted” to the President, stating that his Vice-Presidency will serve all of Nigeria, regardless of race, religion, or place of origin, rather than the “troika of Hausa, Fulani, and Kanuri.”

After the meeting, Shettima told reporters that “President Buhari has given me his words that he will fiercely advocate for the party.”

According to him, the President promised to run an aggressive campaign for the party’s 2023 ticket.

Senator Shettima echoed the President’s statements, adding that his announcement is not a new development but rather a reprise of the MKO and Kingibe ticket and shouldn’t be interpreted as a choice based on race or religion.
