Yoruba/Hausa Clash: Residents boo Akeredolu, Makinde over late intervention

Residents of Shasha, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State on Sunday booed the state governor, Seyi Makinde, and his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, over their lateness to address the ongoing crisis in the area.

Ejes Gist News reported that the governors arrived at Shasha, where the conflict took place, around 12 p.m. on Sunday, but the Yoruba residents there insisted that before going to the Seriki Shasha, the governors must visit the traditional Yoruba leader in the council

After Makinde left the palace of the traditional Yoruba leader, our source said that he left without seeing the Seriki Shasha, which generated angry reactions from the Hausa community.

The Hausa Muhammad Kabiru told SaharaReporters that Makinde “did not do well today”

The Yoruba community did not allow Makinde to see Seriki Shasha. Some Yoruba leaders introduced him to the traditional Yoruba leader after they booed him, and the governor did not go to see Seriki Shasha. I feel betrayed as someone who is Hausa.

As a leader, Makinde is the governor of both the Yoruba and the Hausa people. We voted for him, but he treated us poorly,’ added Kabiru.

“A resident of Yoruba, however, disagreed with Kabiru on the issue, saying “the crisis was caused by Hausa leaders because their children were not cautious.

“It is true we did not allow him to talk to the Seriki Shasha. Where was he when they attacked our people? Hausa people killed many people here. Why must the governor visit him?”
