Individuals like Adebanjo and others associated with such groups or organisations that incite others to violence or openly support acts of terror and terrorist movement should be arrested and dealt with decisively by the authorities, according to the CNG’s spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, in a statement released over the weekend in Abuja.

Dr. Kunle Olajide, the YCE Secretary-General, branded the northern group as “jokers” in an interview with The Guardian. Afenifere, according to Olajide, is the most patriotic socio-political organisation in the country.

“They’re a bunch of knuckleheads. What are their names? Who are these individuals? What is their forerunner? They should be brushed aside. We should not treat them with respect. For the record, Afenifere is Nigeria’s most patriotic sociopolitical organisation. It isn’t a racial or ethnic group. It has long advocated for true federalism. It has led the charge for each region and ethnic group to realise their full potential. It is unkind to advocate for the banning of Afenifere. Those clamouring for it, I believe, should be disregarded and not given a respectable response,” he remarked.

Recall, the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has petitioned the Federal to label Afenifere and other cultural tribal organisations that threaten the country’s peace, security, and peaceful coexistence as terrorists.

CNG’s spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said in a statement released yesterday in Abuja that anyone like Adebanjo or others associated with such groups or organisations who incite others to commit violations or openly support acts of terror and terrorist movements should be arrested and dealt with harshly by the authorities.

“We disavow the provocative behaviour of remnants of those who retain pent-up grievances against the rest of Nigeria for Awolowo’s tribalistic goal to secure the nation’s leadership, and regard this as an affront…,” he stated.
