Mr William Ruto polled 7,176,141 votes in last Tuesday’s election representing 50.07 per cent of the total votes cast and he achieved the minimum 25 per cent of votes in 39 states.

William Ruto narrowly avoided a run-off by defeating Raila Odinga with 50.49% of the vote, according to the Electoral Commission.

Ruto, who replaces outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, is the nation’s fifth leader.

According to information obtained by Ejes Gist Newspaper, current President Kenyatta is scheduled to step down later in August.

Raila Odinga, Ruto’s opponent, disagreed with the results that Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced (IEBC).

Odinga’s coalition reportedly rejected the results, resulting in fighting and chairs being thrown around the building, according to CNN.

Four of the commission’s members disowned the election results announced by Wafula Chebukati, its chairman, at a separate press conference, indicating a split within the electoral commission of the nation.

Juliana Cherera, vice chair of the IEBC, was one of those who disputed the outcomes.
