Happy Mother’s Day, everyone! Every year, people all over the world send cards and flowers to mothers and mother figures, buy gifts for them, or simply express their gratitude for them.

The date of Mothering Sunday in the United Kingdom varies from year to year, but it always falls on a Sunday.

It falls on Sunday, March 27 this year, but the date varies by country.

Mother’s Day, for example, fell earlier in the month in Belarus, Bulgaria, and Uzbekistan, on March 8, whereas Norway celebrates on the second Sunday in February.

The date of Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom changes every year due to the Easter holiday.

During Lent, Mother’s Day falls on the fourth Sunday.

The date changes each year because the date of Lent is determined by the lunar cycle.

As a result, Easter Sunday could fall on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25, causing Mother’s Day to shift.

Why do we celebrate Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day is a Christian tradition that dates back to the 16th century, when Christians would visit their “mother” church on Lent’s fourth Sunday.

It is also known as Mothering Sunday, but it has become more widely known as Mother’s Day in recent years.

Why is it celebrated on different dates in different countries?

Mothers Day is a worldwide commemoration and celebration of all mother figures.

The date it falls on, however, varies from country to country.

In 1914, they started a completely separate event in the United States, dedicated solely to honouring their mothers.

The modern-day Mother’s Day celebration is based on this holiday, which has no religious significance.

After her own mother died, Anna Jarvis, a dedicated community organiser and philanthropist, campaigned for a day in May to honour mothers.

By 1911, the holiday had gained such traction that it was observed in every state in the United States.

President Woodrow Wilson declared Mother’s Day a national holiday in 1914, calling it a “public expression of love and reverence for our country’s mothers.”

She later believed that the day had become too commercialised, and she fought to make it less so.

“A printed card means nothing unless you’re too lazy to write to the woman who has done more for you than anyone else on the planet,” Anna explained.

Many other countries have followed suit, choosing different days to celebrate.

Finland, Greece, Iceland, India, and Italy, for example, celebrate on the second Sunday in May.
