According to a report by Punch, this comes after the residents vowed never to allow him to return to the city.

According to them, it was equal to self-suicide to accept Seriki Fulani back in town, adding that they would rather die than accept Saliu back in town.

The entire city would prefer to go back into self-suicide rather than embrace Seriki. We would rather lay down our lives than be subjected to the evil reign of Seriki again for us and our generations to come,” the Convener, Igangan Development Advocates, Oladiran Oladokun, told The PUNCH on Friday.”

Oladokun was referring to Seriki Fulani’s comment that he would consider going back to Igangan.

“If I had the chance to return to the community, I would consider moving back to Igangan,” Saliu, whose family members have temporarily settled in Ilorin, Kwara State, said on Thursday.

The PUNCH previously announced that Sunday Adeyemo, well known as Sunday Igboho, a prominent Yoruba rights activist, had asked herdsmen accused of perpetrating various crimes in Ibarapaland to leave within seven days.

At the end of the ultimatum, the people of Igangan, emboldened by the intervention of Igboho, expelled Seriki Fulani and his herders from the rustic area.

Speaking to our correspondent on Friday, Oladokun said the town’s residents have been breathing fresh air and relief since Saliu and his men were evicted.

He said that farmers now have renewed hope that they will return to their farms to continue farming without fear of being abused, abducted and killed.

The IDA leader said the community’s citizens would not want any order that would truncate the momentary peace and tranquility they’ve begun to enjoy.

Our people will not allow that reign, that enslavement, to return now that they have tasted a little freedom.

We are now relieved. People can’t go to the farm for too many months, but now people are dreaming of going back to their farms, and now they’re looking for a better life, and you want to snatch the dream from them? Our people are not going to allow that,” the youth leader told The PUNCH.”

“Continuing, Oladokun said, “In the media, people view what happened as an exaggeration in Igangan. But Igangan existed under the oppressive carnage of blood championed by Seriki himself for around 20 years. How am I going to know? Why is it that no Fulani has been charged on any single occasion?

If Seriki really is who he claims to be and he cares so much about the city, why didn’t he bring out at least one of the culprits and say, ‘Igangan people, this one you said last week killed a farmer, this one is him, we got him for you. We don’t want offenders among us, we don’t want our reputation to be tarnished by people.’ Why did the Seriki not do that over the years? To

Seriki said that he had no power over Igangan, but it was a lie; he controlled the city and the killings, he controlled Igangan, even the Asigangan of the land of Igangan, and the chiefs were powerless, bowing to him. That’s why they committed a crime, they’d go to him (Seriki), and he’d ask them to relax even though a woman was killed or raped on the farm. He would tell them that it was the Ja’mah (congregation) who had done it, he said.

Furthermore, the IDA leader urged the Presidency and the Governor of the State of Oyo, Seyi Makinde, to initiate a thorough investigation into the allegations against Seriki Fulani in order to uncover and determine the truth of the matter and to book the perpetrators.
