The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) invaded Kuje Prison in Abuja and released over 800 inmates, including all the terrorists held there, according to a Daily Trust report. This caused the train kidnappers to celebrate.
At least 20 of the victims have been released in waves since the March 28th abduction that resulted in the deaths of about nine passengers and the kidnapping of 60 others, while approximately 40 remain in captivity.
Before some of the passengers were released, the terrorists had demanded the release of their children and some of their commanders.
They had begun negotiations with the federal government, but after the prison invasion, the terms of the negotiations changed.
A terrorist who claimed to have escaped from Kuje prison was depicted wearing a military uniform and being strung up in a machine gun bullet chain in a disturbing video that the train kidnappers just released.
In exchange for his freedom, he referred to the victims as “trash.”
“We must destroy this country,” he said, addressing the president. “If you want to practise the right religion, come and do so, but we are not backing down.” Be aware that we must kidnap you, bring you to this forest, and kill you alongside El-Rufai. You have circulated my images around the world in an attempt to have me apprehended, but I am also announcing that anyone who has seen you (Buhari and El-Rufai) should bring you to me so that I may kill you.
Another terrorist asserted that the Nigerian government would be powerless to stop them, even with assistance from the rest of the world.
“We are Allah’s slaves, and we do not doubt that He will support us in our struggle against you. We want you to know that the world is our priority, not just Nigeria, so this is nothing to us.
He emphasised, gesturing to the captives, “These are not the only people we hope to bring here; you should know that you, Buhari, and the person they call El-Rufai, and your senators, and the Vice President himself, and your state legislators, and even councillors, will come before us, so get ready because you cannot fight God.”
Some of the victims who spoke on camera pleaded with the international community to intervene on their behalf because the Nigerian government was powerless to save them.
They specifically urged the United Nations, Saudi Arabia, Britain, France, and the United States of America.
