Kagara Schoolboys Arrive Minna
In Minna, the state capital, the abductees from Government Science Secondary School Kagara, in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, have arrived.
They will be briefed by State Governor Abubakar Bello, according to a government official who confirmed their arrival to Channels TV.
It was said that the students were taken to a location away from the House of Government in Minna.
Although it is not certain whether a ransom was paid to secure the release of the students, Governor Bello has repeatedly said that the bandits would not be paid money by his administration.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu has expressed his delight at the release of the kidnapped students.
The President welcomed the release of the students in a statement issued today by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, commending the nation’s security and intelligence agencies and the Niger State government for their responses in securing the release.
We are pleased to have been released,” said Buhari, sympathising with the staff and the students, their parents, and friends in this ordeal.”
He did warn, however, that the country would not continue to be subjected to attacks that jeopardise education, security, and the lives of future leaders while also casting a negative light on the country.
Buhari also reiterated his previous advice to school owners, especially state and local governments, as well as religious organisations, to increase security around their schools in line with the standards set out in the administration’s UN-backed Safe School Program.
The school abductions were again condemned by President Buhari, with the latest one at the Government Girls Secondary School in Zamfara State, Jangebe.
He also instructed all the country’s security and intelligence agencies to hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
