Villarreal Vs Liverpool Results ( 2:3 )
Liverpool beat Villarreal qualify for UCL final.
Liverpool got through a scare against Villarreal to reach the Champions League final – and keep their hopes of winning the quadruple alive.
The Reds had won the first leg 2-0, but that lead was wiped out after only 41 minutes at a raucous and passionate El Madrigal as the Spanish side pushed for a massive upset.
After only three minutes, Boulaye Dia converted Etienne Capoue’s pass for Villarreal’s first goal, before ex-Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin headed in a second from another Capoue cross as the Reds looked rattled.
Liverpool needed to improve in the second half, and in the 62nd minute, Fabinho put them back in front on aggregate with a shot that went through the legs of Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.
Luis Diaz, who came on at halftime to replace Diogo Jota and restored Liverpool’s two-goal aggregate lead, restored Liverpool’s two-goal aggregate lead with a header at the back post.
With a third goal after taking the ball around Rulli, Sadio Mane ensured Liverpool’s place in their third Champions League final in five seasons. Villarreal finished with ten men after Capoue was sent off late in the game for two bookable offences.
On Saturday, May 25, the Reds will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid at the Stade de France in Paris.
Liverpool is aiming to become the first English club to win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup all in the same season.
