Court orders INEC to publish Godswill Akpabio as APC candidate for Akwa-Ibom North-West Senatorial District.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and publish Godswill Akpabio’s name as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District.
Justice Emeka Nwite issued the order on Thursday while delivering his decision in the case.
He claimed that INEC acted illegally by refusing to accept and publish Mr Akpabio’s name after APC sent it to them.
Ejes Gist Newspaper reports that Godswill Akpabio ran in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries, but was defeated by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He resorted to contesting the party’s senatorial tickets for the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial Districts. However, Udom Ekpoudom had already emerged as a candidate after taking part in the INEC-supervised primaries.
Fortunately for Akpabio, the zone’s first primary election, scheduled for May 28, 2022, was cancelled due to security violations during the primary election. A rerun of the primary election was held, and Mr Akpabio came out on top with 478 votes
As a result, his name was forwarded to INEC as a candidate.
