Update on Benue Pharmacist Detained for Threatening to Hire Sniper to kill Buhari
Today, Wednesday 24 February, Solomon Akuma, a young pharmacist who has been arrested and detained at the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja for over 11 months for allegedly threatening President Muhammad Buhari, will appear at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In response to a certain tweet by a popular Twitter user, Tunde Omotoye, who had previously tweeted, ‘$1,000,000 hits your account,’ the 29-year-old was arrested for tweeting, ‘Pay a Russian Sniper to eliminate Buhari and Abba Kyari.’ The next move of yours? ”.
It was an obvious tweet from Akuma that was a joke that would be referred to as ‘banter’ by the average Nigerian Twitter user, a word used to describe comments deliberately made by any Twitter user with the intention of drawing online traffic and stimulating online discussion or Twitter trends.
Nevertheless, despite the fact that the young pharmacist did not appear to have the ability or intention to recruit a Russian sniper to remove a certain Buhari or Abba Kyari, the late Chief of Staff of the President of Nigeria, the Nigerian authorities continued to abduct him and to keep him in solitary confinement without trial.

Solomon Akuma will appear in court again from detention on Wednesday, February 24, after a Federal High Court judge in Abuja had previously denied him bail.
The case, which was previously expected to resume before Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbajo for a decision on the’ admissibility of documents’ weeks ago, was stalled following the court registrar’s announcement that the judge would not be sitting.
