UNIBEN condemns killing of student
The administration of the University of Benin, Edo State, has condemned the murder of a senior student simply known as Mayor.
On Monday at 9 p.m., Mayor, a student at the Department of Public Administration, was shot in the face at close range.

He was also the school’s Kegite chief.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the UNIBEN Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, disclosed that the administration was collaborating closely with the police and internal security to apprehend the murderer.
The statement read, “The administration of the University of Benin has condemned the brutal and tragic murder of a male student in his final year, known as ‘Mayor’ (real name withheld), on the evening of Monday, March 3, 2023.
The gruesome shooting occurred in one of the residence halls and was perpetrated by an unidentified gunman.

While expressing condolences to the deceased student’s family and classmates, administration instructed other students to remain calm.
The statement continued, “Management is also working closely with internal security units to ensure that such a heinous incident does not reoccur on university grounds.”
