Amina Mohammed, the UN Deputy Secretary-General, has condemned Deborah Samuel’s murder and demanded that justice be served.
Deborah, a 200 level student at Sokoto’s Shehu Shagari College of Education, was assassinated by her classmates after they suspected her of making a disrespectful remark about Prophet Muhammed.
Mohammed wrote, describing her murder as “senseless.”
“Justice must be served for Deborah Samuel‘s senseless and terrible murder in Nigeria.
When religions urge peace, they should not be misunderstood as preaching violence. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and for the soul’s repose.”

Deborah Samuel, who was killed for alleged blasphemy in Sokoto on Thursday, has been laid to rest.

She was laid to rest in tears in her hometown, Tunga Magajiya, in the Rijau local government region of Niger State.
The 200 level Economics student was beaten to death and later burnt by her colleagues over alleged blasphemous statements.
She was accused of making a blasphemous statement against prophet Mohammed.
The gruesome death of the young lady has sparked reactions and tumult in the northern part of the country, precisely Sokoto where it all originated from with protesters demanding the release of the suspects, destroying properties, threatening lives.
