Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi breaks silence on police Using Teargas to Disperse Obidients Rally in Ebonyi State on his orders 

Ejes Gist Newspaper reports that On Saturday, Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi admitted he never gave the go-ahead for a rally of Peter Obi’s Labour Party supporters to be disrupted.

Umahi clarified the matter in a statement released by Chooks Oko, his Special Assistant on Media and Strategy.

The declaration was made after police in Abakaliki used tear gas on Obi’s supporters during a demonstration.

According to the statement, “The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State has been made aware of several online publications and rumours circulating that he ordered the disruption of a gathering in favour of one of the presidential contenders in the 2023 elections. That is untrue.

Umahi Speaks on Police Using Teargas on Obidients 

“Since he did not order any, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State is undoubtedly unaware of any disruption of any meeting. He is a Democrat who is enthusiastic about upholding the law.

He wishes every candidate for office the best of luck and will demand that everyone play on an even playing field. If it is true that the police scattered people, they will undoubtedly have to answer for it.

“For the sake of the record, the relevant government agencies had given their consent for the Labour party to hold a rally in the stadium in the Abakaliki Township, provided that certain fees were paid.

Police Teargas Obidients 

It was learned that the organisers decided not to pay the costs and instead chose to disperse into the streets, where they caused immense suffering for the unfortunate residents going about their everyday lives.

We are informed that law and order had to be restored by the police.
