Blackout as National Grid collapse the for the 6th Time
After the Nigerian energy grid collapsed, the entire nation was plunged into darkness.
The grid experienced a breakdown on Wednesday and lost all of its megawatts.
This comes just 20 days after the Nigerian Energy Regulatory Commission (NERC) activated a partial contract order requiring the Nigerian electricity market to guarantee 5,000MW and at least 4,000MW, following a similar collapse on June 12.
Around midday on Wednesday, the grid went blank for the seventh time in 2022.
This was announced by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company in a text message that was distributed to its clients.
Dear customers, we regret to inform you of a system failure on the national grid that occurred at precisely 11:27 am on this Wednesday, July 20.
To find out what caused the collapse and to discuss a potential restoration schedule, “We are in talks with the Transmission Company of Nigeria.”
