Tinubu’s govt snubs Dangote Refinery to export crude oil to Indonesia, Details Emerge
Nigerian Government Overlooks Dangote Refinery, Chooses to Export Crude Oil to Indonesia.
Rabiu Umar, the Group Chief Commercial Officer at Dangote Industries Limited, has accused the Nigerian government of sidestepping the Dangote Refinery in favor of exporting crude oil to Indonesia and importing refined products from there. Umar shared these concerns during an interview with Channels Television.
Aliko Dangote Offers to Sell 650,000 bpd Oil Refinery to NNPC Amid Ongoing Disputes
Despite the Dangote Refinery’s capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, it faces significant challenges in securing sufficient local crude oil supply. Umar questioned the logic of sending Nigerian crude oil to Indonesia only to bring refined products back into Nigeria. “It does not make sense to me,” he remarked.
Umar called for an improved supply of crude oil to domestic refineries and reaffirmed that the Dangote Refinery is set to begin supplying fuel domestically in August 2024.
This development comes amidst a dispute between the Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) over product quality.
Farouk Ahme, CEO of NMDPRA has labeled Dangote’s products as substandard. However, Umar and Aliko Dangote have countered his claim. He stated that their products are among the best globally.
