I didn’t hire fake Christian clerics for Shettima’s unveiling — Tinubu
During the unveiling of his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, on Wednesday in Abuja, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), hit back at those who accused his team of employing people and dressed them as Christian clerics.
In a statement sent through his campaign organization, Tinubu said that priests were welcome to attend the gathering.
Director of Media and Communication for the Tinubu Campaign Organization TCO, Bayo Onanuga, also referred to the widely shared images and videos of some clergymen and women at the unveiling as “unwarranted distractions” and accused the opposition of capitalizing on the event to incite needless attacks against the APC.
According to Onanuga, the clerics and several other people who are currently the targets of opposition hirelings were able to attend since the event was open to the public.
The statement says in part;
“We want to clarify that the priests in question were not imposters, mechanics, or yam salesmen, as some haters have led Nigerians to believe on social media.
They are steadily expanding their missions; they are not yet well-known in Christendom.
They are religious leaders who sincerely think that Nigerians should reject political animosity and bigotry and instead support political peace and nation-building.

“We therefore deplore the hysterical twisting of the presence of these men and women in cassocks and the false accusation against our candidates, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Shettima.
“The manufactured social media outcry over the men’s attendance is unnecessary and all designed to overshadow the enormous success that was recorded at the historic event on Wednesday.
“We think Nigerians are too intelligent and perceptive to fall for this ruse. Asiwaju Tinubu, his running mate, and our fantastic party are working really hard to provide the Nigerian people with effective leadership and progressive governance that will enhance their quality of life.
“We are fully aware that the intimidating political credentials of our candidates have alarmed and intimidated the opposition parties and the organizers of the social media charade.
They can only hope to divert public attention from their unimpressive applicants’ resumes and qualifications by using social media diversion.
Our campaign is committed to concentrating on fundamental governance issues that concern every Nigerian in order to address them and raise the level of living of our people as much as possible.
