After emerging from the bush, several armed men attacked travellers in Osun state, leaving locals in fear.
In Osun state, three travellers have been kidnapped by gunmen.
The sad incident occurred on Tuesday night at the Ilesha-Akure Express in Osun, according to the Osun Police Command.
In a statement, the command spokesman, SP Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that the incident occurred around 7 p.m. Local Government Area of the State, in Iwaraja town of Oriade.
However, she said the police had, in an attempt to rescue the victims, deployed men and officers to the forest where the kidnappers retreated after the abduction.
At the moment, she said, the command was not aware of whether any contact had been established with the victims’ families to request a ransom.
“At around 7 p.m. on Monday, some hoodlums still to be identified emerged from the bush and opened fire, flattening the tyres of an ABUJA ABJ 635 DC Toyota Sienna bus, along the Ilesha-Akure Expressway, near Iwaraja Forest.
Six passengers plus the bus driver were abducted in the process, but three were lucky to have escaped.
“However, the police, local hunters and vigilantes are undergoing an intensive manhunt to rescue the abducted victims and arrest the suspects,” Opalola said.
