Tension As Presidency Confirms Attempted Robbery Incident at Aso Rock, Reveals Details


Presidency confirms attempted burglary of Gambari’s Aso Rock Villa residence .

Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, reported on Monday that there was a “foolish attempt” to burgle the residence of the President’s Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, inside the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He reported that the incident, which occurred about 3 a.m., was a failure.

“The Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, has reported that there was a ‘foolish attempt’ to burgle his residence at 3 a.m. this morning, but it was unsuccessful,” the presidential aide wrote.

“Professor Gambari, whose home is on a street adjacent to the Villa, has told me that the incident is not a cause for concern.”

Earlier in the day, an online publication, Peoples Gazette, announced that armed men suspected of being robbers broke into the homes of two senior aides to President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) inside the Presidential Villa’s precinct.

The incident, according to the medium, forced Gambari and the administrative officer, Abubakar Maikano, to flee their homes.

“Each of their houses were robbed, and the robbers took money and other valuable assets from both houses,” a source told the medium.

It is still unknown how armed robbers gained entry to the Presidential Villa, which is guarded by a joint team of police officers, officials from the Department of State Services, and men from the Nigerian Army’s Presidential Guards Brigade.
