Gunmen assassinated Gen. Frank Seide, the chairman of Bayelsa State Waterway Protection (West District).

 

On Thursday night, April 1, the deceased, also known as General Frank, was shot and killed by gunmen in his hometown, Bilabiri district, in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

It’s unclear if his death has anything to do with the community’s reported killings over security contracts.

Four people are said to have died in a bloodbath in Bilabiri Village, Ekeremor Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, following a dispute over a proposed security deal, according to Vanguard.

The bloodbath was said to have erupted over a dispute over who would be in charge of a major multinational oil company’s security contract in the region.

An indigene of the area, Embiowei, who confirmed the incident, said there is a battle for supremacy among youths over who controls a multimillion-naira oil security contract.

Meanwhile, Hon. Watchman Ebebe James, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Bayelsa on General Duties, has condemned the killing of the security chief.

The statement reads, “The SSA to the Governor of Bayelsa State on General Duties Hon. Watchman Ebebe James strongly condemned the assassination of his colleague Gen. Frank Seide, the former Rda Chairman and current coordinator waterway security Ekeremo Axis.”

“I thought the world had ended when I learned that my colleague, Gen. Frank Seide, had died. I’m calling on the government and all security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the assassination of General Frank Seide and bring those responsible to justice.

“Meanwhile, I advise the people of Bilabiri, federated Community, to be vigilant, firm, and not to take the law into their own hands, because I am confident that the perpetrators will be brought to justice!

“I offer my condolences to the deceased’s family, especially his wives and children. May his soul find eternal rest!”
