On the Otedola Bridge on Sunday, a 40-foot container crushed two cars, killing one person and injuring the other.


According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Nosa Okunbor, the Head of Public Affairs for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), who confirmed the incident, the victim’s remains had been claimed by his relatives.

He also revealed that the driver of the container-laden truck that crushed the two automobiles, who has yet to be identified, was carried to the Trauma Centre near the FRSC Office by the old Lagos-Ibadan Toll Gate.

“LASEMA rescued a badly injured truck driver at the Otedola bridge incident location this morning, July 18, in a just-completed operation involving one fatality.

“The unidentified injured truck driver who was transporting the 40-foot container that smashed two vehicles and killed one driver was transported to the Trauma Centre.

“As the agency worked assiduously to eliminate all obstacles from the road, the remains of the late driver of one of the vehicles, one Mr Lawal, have been claimed by his relatives,” he said.

He added that when he arrived at the scene, reports revealed that a 40-foot container on a vehicle with an unknown plate number had fallen on the two cars.

“The registration numbers for the two cars are JJJ 28 FR and BDG 597 CY, respectively.

“One adult male died, while the container truck driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to the Lagos Trauma Centre.

“With the agency’s light and heavy-duty equipment, the impacted automobiles were evacuated off the road.

“The recovery effort included combined responders from LASEMA Response Teams, NEMA, FRSC, and LASTMA,” he stated.

He went on to say that the route had been cleared of all impediments and was suitable for vehicular traffic.
