The trouble allegedly began when the deceased questioned her spouse about his unjustly dismissing students who owed school fees without checking in on her.

When the afflicted parents began phoning to protest about her husband’s actions, Odinaka Opurum, the deceased’s eldest brother, said his now sister felt embarrassed.

“The spouse went to the school (Tuesday, November 10) and began removing students who had not paid their school fees. When the parents called the wife to ask why she drove their children away after they had paid, she told them not to be angry because she would find out from her husband.

“When she arrived at the house, they began arguing again, and the husband began abusing her. He then began strangling her till she passed out and became unconscious. He hurried her to a clinic near their home when she stopped responding, where the facility confirmed her death and referred him to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).

Mr Opurum stated, “Instead of taking her to UPTH as they advised, he took her to the house, wrapped her in a wrapper, packed some clothes in a bag, locked all the doors, and attempted to flee.”

He also revealed that this was not the first time the pastor had beaten up on his sister. He claims it has happened before, and his sister, out of love and her church position as a marital counsellor, opted to put up with it in order to not set a negative example for young ladies.

The pastor and the deceased’s marriage, which was solemnised in 2012, produced four children, two boys and two girls.
