Iyaje Abuma Shedrack, a University of Jos 100-level student, was reportedly stabbed to death by hoodlums near the school’s permanent site.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, as normal activities in the state capital began to return after Governor Simon Bako Lalong relaxed the 24-hour curfew.

The university’s Students Union Government (SUG) President, Comrade Danladi Joshua Adankala, confirmed the news to newsmen in Jos, and expressed concern about the hoodlums’ continued killings of students.

“The student was riding a tricycle from the university’s permanent site to the main campus when he was suddenly pulled off the road and stabbed to death. Nothing but more pains, hurts, fears, sorrows, and endless lamentations have resulted from our tears for justice “he stated

“At the risk of being misunderstood, we dare to state that security agencies combed the area and arrested more than 20 suspects just hours after the tragic incident on August 14th, as stated in a press statement issued by the Nigerian Police Force, Plateau State Command.

“This means the security agencies can be effective but unfortunately, the innocent students of the University of Jos do not deserve such prompt attention and energy”

“If we truly have a government capable of responding quickly to the Rukuba Road incident, one must wonder what is happening to us, the University of Jos students. This is undeniably a confirmation of the adage that “all animals are not equal”

According to him, the federal and state governments should expand the scope of transportation services available to students and staff both on and off campus as a matter of urgent priority, as this will allow them to boycott Keke and bike riders, the majority of whom they suspect are among the attackers and killers.
