The Supreme Court ruled that Amaechi’s appeal was without merit and ordered him to pay N1 million in costs.
The panel was set up to look into some transactions carried out by the Rivers State Government under Amaechi, which were estimated to be worth N96 billion.
The Rivers State claimed that Amaechi’s administration defrauded the state by selling some of the state’s assets.

At the High Court, Amaechi challenged the panel’s formation, claiming, among other things, that the planned investigation was intended to witch-hunt, embarrass, and humiliate him.
His case was dismissed in the High Court of Rivers State, and he also lost at the Court of Appeal, prompting him to file a petition with the Supreme Court.
In another decision, the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by Dakuku Peterside, the former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
The N6 billion defamation suit filed against Peterside by former Rivers Governor Peter Odili was the subject of Peterside’s appeal.
The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the appeal was without merit.
