South Africa Bar Shootings

South Africa Bar Shootings – 19 individuals were killed in two bar shootings, one in an east South African slum and the other in a township near to Johannesburg, according to local authorities.

Police reported on Sunday that 15 people were slain in Soweto during a night out when gunmen pulled up in a minibus taxi and started firing indiscriminately at customers.

Police in Pietermaritzburg, a city in eastern South Africa, said that two individuals opened fire in a bar, killing four people and injuring eight others.

Police sources noted the similarities between the assaults but said it was too soon to say if they were somehow related.

Faith Mazibuko, a member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Community Safety, said Al Jazeera, “It saddens us that anyone now who possesses a gun wants to try their gun on our communities.”

“We want to ask communities to really, really help the police catch those criminals,” she continued.

Police were called to the site shortly after midnight in Soweto, the largest township in Johannesburg and the township to the southwest of the economic hub of South Africa.

Police lieutenant Elias Mawela said, “We were called in the early hours of the morning, about 12:30 am (22:30 GMT).

When police arrived on the site, 12 individuals had already died from gunshot wounds, according to local police officer Nonhlanhla Kubheka.

Three of the 11 patients who were taken to the hospital died soon after arriving, she continued.

There were no specifics about the attackers.

No one has been detained. Police are still present. According to Kubheka, chief of the Orlando police station, where the shooting took place in the Soweto neighbourhood, “They came and shot at individuals who were having fun.”

The pub was located in the Orlando neighbourhood of Johannesburg’s largest township, Soweto, which lies southeast of the city.

Mawela claims that a high-calibre weapon was used to indiscriminately shoot individuals within the permitted bar, and the quantity of cartridges discovered at the scene suggested that more than one person or group was responsible for the shootings.

Everybody there was attempting to leave the tavern, as you can see, according to Mawela.

In a separate event, a shootout took place in a bar in Pietermaritzburg, in eastern South Africa, and four people were killed.

According to local police spokeswoman Nqobile Gwala, the incident occurred on Saturday at 8:00 pm (18:30 GMT) and injured eight additional people.

He claimed that two males pulled up, went inside the bar, and “fired random shots at the patrons” before leaving.

South Africa Bar Shootings: There were eight more injuries.

“Around 12 persons were shot in total. Two were pronounced dead at the site, while the other two passed away in a hospital, according to Gwala.

The shootings take place two weeks after 21 youngsters were discovered dead in an East London pub.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of those deaths, but they have stated that neither gunfire nor a stampede killed the teenagers.
