A petition calling for President Muhammadu Buhari to be imprisoned has garnered over 73,000 signatures.

Nigerians from all over the country signed a petition demanding that Buhari be imprisoned for his role in the Lekki tollgate shooting.

Reno Omokri, a socio-political activist, spearheaded the petition against Buhari over the alleged massacre of EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020.

Remember that a leaked report from the Lagos Panel of Inquiry, which was established by the State to investigate allegations of killings at the Lekki Tollgate during the End SARS protest, revealed that a massacre occurred.

The report, which came out amid the Federal ’s claim that the allegations were false and intended to tarnish Buhari’s administration’s image, sparked outrage among Nigerians, who challenged the presidency to defend the report.

Following the release of the report, which is currently being studied by the Lagos State government, the former presidential aide launched a petition against Buhari on the platform, accusing him of ordering the shooting in Lekki.

During a visit to the site on Friday morning, it was discovered that 72,779 Nigerians had signed the petition, which is addressed to the International Criminal Court – ICC – and requests that the President be prosecuted for alleged violations of Nigerian youths’ rights.

According to Reno, once the   reaches 100,000 signatures, it will be sent to ICC President Piotr Hofmaski.

“By the grace of God, Buhari will retire to prison in 2023, and all future Presidents will see that the state’s mass murder of Nigerians has consequences,” he said.
