Sheikh Gumi’s wife, Aminatu, has died.
The news now is that Hajiya Aminatu Bintu, the late Sheikh Abubakar Gumi’s widow, has died. She said to have died on Saturday morning.
Ejes Gist News has learned that the funeral will take place at Sheikh Abubakar Gumi’s home at 4.30 p.m. today.
Sheikh Abubakar Gumi was an outspoken Islamic scholar who served as the Grand Khadi of Nigeria’s Northern Region (1962–1967), a position that gave him a central role in the region’s interpretation of the Sharia legal system. He was a close friend of Ahmadu Bello, the Northern region’s premier in the 1950s and 1960s, and was appointed Grand Khadi in 1967.
He was also alleged to be among the funder of Boko Haram, whose mission is to make Nigeria an Islamic State. Read Here
Ahmad Gumi, his eldest son, is a well-known Islamic cleric who is now advocating for a kinder approach to the plight of bandits in northern Nigeria. He is often named bandits lover.
The news of the death of Shiekh Gumi’s wife, Aminatu was confirmed by Ahmad Gumi on his well-known Facebook page.
Following the rising insecurity in northern Nigeria, Ahmad Gumi tries to negotiate with bandits to get them to ‘lower their arms for a safe Nigeria.’
He frequently enters the forest, reaching out to various Bandits camps and hideouts in the hopes of persuading them to stop kidnapping and killing people for ransom.
