He said the surrender of the terrorists is a “good development for the security of this country,” and that it is important for the establishment of peace in the state and across the country.

“I want to take this opportunity to mention that the federal of Nigeria will continue to work with the Borno state government to ensure that peace and stability are restored,” the Senate President said.

“The recent surrender of Boko Haram members is a positive development for the country’s security.

“Those who don’t have any issues to address are sanitised and returned to their communities. Those who may have legal issues should be guided through the legal system.

“However, we must ensure that we encourage Boko Haram members and those they have kidnapped to come out and surrender so that this needless insurgency against us is put to an end.”

He went on to say that the government should do everything possible to persuade the terrorists to hand over their weapons.

“I don’t believe there should be any debate about what we should do with people who have surrendered. Surrender is the ultimate in any war. If we succeed, we should do everything we can to encourage more people to come out so that we can put an end to this unnecessary insurgency that has held our countries back for so many years in terms of development,” Lawan said.

  1. A whole Senate President of Africa’s most populous country talking like a kid. He said “surrendered” Boko Haram and at d same time said he would persuade them give up or turn in their weapons, and that means their weapons are still active, which in turn means they never surrendered yet, so this man is up to no good in asking nigerians to these Islamic terrorists. Secondly, he labelled them “repentant” Boko Haramists, and d obvious question is: repentance from what? Is it from Islamic religion when they are still muslims? The only validor genuine repentance is if they become practicing active christians or any other religion than Islam, because it is not possible for Muslim to repent to still be a Muslim, otherwise Islam becomes a big h me or caricature of itself which is a blasphamy. All of these mean this senate president is a fool.
