Minister charges Community Leaders
Alhaji Myhammad Dingyadi, the Minister of Police Affairs, has urged community leaders to assist security forces in the fight against bandits and other elements posing a threat to the country’s peace and security.
The minister made the announcement at an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
He claimed the call came after security inspections revealed that the majority of banditry actions were carried out by persons residing in nearby communities.
According to him, the individuals use unpatriotic members of their own communities as agents who provide intelligence to help them carry out their criminal acts.
“As a result, I urge community leaders to appeal to all peace-loving members of their communities to join security agencies in combating bandits and other elements threatening peace and security,” he said.
According to the minister, policing infrastructure is currently being prioritised in order to strengthen kinetic operations against foolish individuals or groups plotting violence against Nigerians.
He said that the Nigerian Police Force’s recent deployment of drones for surveillance of sensitive areas, as well as new Explosive Ordinance Devices to detect explosives and other covert measures, will aid in the reduction of violent crime.
According to him, the Police Department is re-strategizing its kinetic and non-kinetic operations in order to combat all types of security threats in the country.
The minister stated that the government is concerned about recent security developments in Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Zamfara, and parts of Sokoto States.
He stated that the Federal Government’s commitment to sustaining peace in order to create a favourable climate for economic growth will continue to necessitate media assistance.
According to Dingyadi, the goal was to foster inclusion and a constant battle against opponents of Nigerians’ collective benefit.
